I love ‘em too !! On my 3rd ES and still have my old 90 in the garage. If you’re touring you will break keys, especially the B A and in D usually in that order. Also, this board demand good speakers. It’s forgiving on lesser gear but why would you. If the action were a touch better I’d marry it. Through an EAW LA 12 w outboard 32 band eq and a wah! Rocks!!
@deankeys8185
@deankeys8185 6 месяцев назад
Ditto, Yes I feel the same way. I use a hard flightcase so no issues for broken keys as yet, I use Yamaha dxr/dxs for Pa via Yamaha MG mixers and it always sounds great to me. Yes I’d marry mine too if it was allowed too haha. Nice one
@JLamont45
@JLamont45 6 месяцев назад
@@deankeys8185 on the key issue, I did have flight cases and still do. I noticed that mine tended to break after playing in a place like Yuma Arizona or Alabama and then going to Marquette Mich or something and the corner pieces at the base would break. Always in the same place. I finally got to the point where I would keep only two screws in the bottom of the board, and I always had extra keys on hand and I would literally lift the lid remove the front piece and replace the keys manually, which isn’t hard. We did win a class action lawsuit against Yamaha concerning these keys and I remember that I was able to take mine into Seale Keyworks in Nashville, and they gave me an entire replacement for free because of the lawsuit. I do believe, however, that the key set on the XS is the same. But I remember many times having to change those keys live and the band would always joke that I had to change the oil on the board!

A friend lead me to a pawn shop that had one for well …. I was very fortunate 🙏🏽 That keyboard is so extensive . But I have to agree that the o it downside is ether it’s so heavy to pick up & go on a quick gig
@JLamont45
@JLamont45 2 года назад
I’m on my third S90, 1 S90 and 2 S90 ES’s. Wore the first 2 out. Constantly had to replace broken keys on the first 2 boards. Yamaha seems to have gotten better at that as my 3rd ES has yet to break a key in 7 yrs of service on the road plus I’ve gotten better at taking care of it. The first 2 would would often do 12-16 hrs of playing on Broadway in Nashville and they just got knocked around. Stood up well and to this day no board does pianos and organs right out of the box as well as the Yamaha S90Es. Even the Leslie is liveable. I stack a Hammond es now with the ventilator and still not afraid to play a piano part on the Hammond and play an organ part down on the S90 ES. Only drawback is the manual and I still get PTSD about a key breaking. I think Yamaha knew what they had in this one, especially with the Natural grand and then screwed the pooch when the discontinued it. The CP4, 5 and 88 just don’t do all the things this can do. Sure it’s a bit heavy but you’ll be glad you stayed in shape to move it once you hit the stage.

Wow that’s brilliant joe, I don’t think I’ll ever sell it tbh, I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves the s90es, as you say it will keep us fit moving it around haha

I am very happy I found this video! I recently began playing piano for my church and found a ‘90 es’ at a music store to purchase. Your video is the most enjoyable of all that I have seen. I will look at your channel for more information about your 90 es. I am interested to know how the arpeggiators work, I believe I saw that there are four. Thanks again!
@deankeys8185
@deankeys8185 3 года назад
That’s so kind of you to say thankyou, if you listen to my backing tracks “sleep tight” and “space” they are both using the arpeggiators. You won’t go wrong with the s90es as I still love mine 16years later.

Many Thanks for this video. I just bought one of these. And it's time to enjoy it. Haven't played for more than 15 years. so it will be very slow start. What would you recommend for a home audio interface - something like focusrite (red) or yamaha ag06? What I know is, that with focusrite you have a change to record every channel on different track, and with the mixer everything goes into 1 channel. My plan is to do only home recordings. it will be mostly piano only, sometimes singer. Thanks once again!

Hi there, thanks for watching, i dont know about the focusrite but believe there very good, i plug into a usb desk and use cakewalk/sonar to do all my recordings, it works for me but i'm only entry level. you have bought a fantastic piano and hope you enjoy it as much as i do

A great rundown here, most enjoyable. We have a fully expanded Yamaha Motif ES7 which has 99% of the same sounds and features of the S90 ES. We agree that these keyboards are absolutely fantastic, however...once you really delve into the editing capabilities these beasts have, especially the programmable arpeggiator...you may decide to sack your drummer and guitarist afterall😀👍🍺

Many thanks and totally agreed, I do enjoy playing with a live drummer/bass player I must admit even though I hate the set up hassle. I don’t use the 90 for the band as I have started using a montage 7 and an old 9000pro, but I love the 90 for the piano duo I’m in too. Really appreciate your comment and thanks for watching me dribble on lol

@@deankeys8185 thanks Dean for your input. I owned an S90 and sold it because of mainly the weight. I bought a cp88 And like the less weight but due miss the sounds and feel of my old S90. I have a line on a S90ES and if I do purchase it I will need help moving it at times.
