Just got mine for us170 but I need to read the manual in order to know how to drive through (haha!) Congrats! This synth was meant to create atmospheres and sort of that ambient sounds.

Can i use it as a midi controller??

Another user said the patches work “perfectly” on SY35.

@@crnkmnky well the SY22/TG33 and the SY35 have different wave sets (basic sounds to build patches) plus the '35 is 16-bit and the others 12-bit. But the issue is the differing basic waves so some patches may load but not be 100% identical. (Ive owned all 3 in the past)

@@biggrime i think you need an editor and it's done by sysex messages. i don't have mine any more to check...

get yourself a dedicated MIDI controller with knobs/slides/pads and yes u can access parameters via MIDID - more in fact then from the front panel menu diving.

If you're looking to get rid of it, i'll buy it :)

I agree it has not so great sounds, I got one off ebay and was delivered just yesterday. But I bought it essentially to use as a midi controller for my D550 sound module/rack. It looks nice enough and nice enough board to play but there are only a couple, well maybe 3 good sounds, when I say good I don;t mean great, there is like one Pad I thought sounded pretty good and the rest are just shit. Only thing is you can edit the sounds but it feels kind of limited and overall not amazing...but to be fair it is a very cheap synth, for me in a way I am glad the sounds are shit as I bought it mostly for the reason I said as a midi controller for D550 rack, the fact the sounds on this thing aren't amazing I am not going to miss any of these sounds when I am using as a midi controller and the synth itself doesn;t look too cheap n nasty. so a success for me really.

CinemaEnthusiast93 I'm looking at the original sy22 manual that came with mine back in the 90s, and in the specifications section under tone generator systems it says "AWM (advanced wave memory) & FM (frequency modulation)"

Although it uses 2 samples oscillators and 2 FM oscillators to make up a sound, the FM sounds cannot be edited like on a DX/TX/TZ. Supposedly, there are computer editors that allow you to get down and dirty with FM editing on the SY22 but I can't remember which one or if its even still available.

+Jack Roland You use a midi interface and midi cables to connect to the computer, and a program like MidiOX or Bome's SendSX. Since I have a lot of synths from the late 70s and 80s, and a few from the 90's like this one, a midi interface is a must if you want to fiddle around with old synths. Only one of my 18 synths have USB and that's the Waldorf Rocket which I hardly ever use.

Well, I myself use MOTU Midi Express 128, M-Audio Midisport 4x4 and M-Audio Midisport 2x2. I use Midisport 2x2 at work also so I guess I could recommend that. It all depends on how many synths you have and how many you want to connect to the computer. I don't get it. If you download the file from the dropbox link in the description below the video and unpack it with say something like 7zip (I don't know if that program is available on mac but I'm sure there's something similar that can unpack .zip files) you see that the file name is Lukas SY22.syx. I don't know how you can think it has the extension .sy1?

You use a program that can send sysex files, for example MidiOX, connect the synth to the computer using a Midi interface and a midi cable.

You don't need a card. You can use the internal memory.

Well, here in Sweden you see them pop up from time to time on our equivalent of ebay. And they are very cheap so...you should be able to get hold of a "new" one.

The patches are most probably sysex-files (.syx, "system exclusive") which can be transmitted via software (midi sequencer/DAW, editor software or a librarian software) and a USB-MIDI-Interface (or a USB audio interface with MIDI ports, like for example the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4) to the synthesizer.
