Have you heard the piano with the sustain pedal though? I’ve heard recent workstations that don’t sound as good.

@@NunyaB1s I have yes, and I have sustain and expression pedals myself that I use on that SY piano sound. It does sound way better, but its still fairly weak compared to what they could have achieved with a dedicated piano wave card set. It's still a very usable piano for certain applications.

I thought the piano sound was great on my SY35. I have it going through some good speakers though.

Yamaha PSR series is not professional syths, PSR syths are arrangers. Interactive music band can be imitated in lower quality with them completely alone. Accompaniment is played in different styles based on a chord played with the left hand. With the right hand you can play anything. SY series, EX series, Motif series, Montage are professional digital workstations provided with various sound syntheses for create Your own sounds. PSR, Tyros, Genos synths are toys even if they are very expensive. .....their user base is different.

Around 1989 was when synths started getting really powerful and could make amazing music all on their own. Saw inklings of it before then with the likes of the MT-32 and D-10, but once the M1 hit stores and the workstation synth became much more ubiquitous, synths just became way easier to make cool music with on their own

@@ingoodmusic Since the comment does not provide details, I will speculate. 🤔 Samples that are not in the built-in WAVE ROM (8MB) must be loaded from floppy disk (2DD) into WAVE RAM (0.5MB). 💾 The songs in this video are from the SY99 SOUND DISK, which was sold separately in the past, and I spent a lot of money to own all of them at the time. 💸
