Finding the perfect amp at a reasonable cost is tough when you live in an apartment complex, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. After playing various solid state guitar amps to low wattage tube amps, I have finally settled on the Yamaha THR10 practice amp! And for the money, it's tough to find something better. After 5 years of owning this, I have no desire to sell it.
(But if there is something better, please let me know in the comments below)
I am always in the search for low wattage amps that can be played during the late evenings. Living within shared walls can be tricky as you want to stay considerate and not make your neighbours mad.
I do not enjoy playing through DAW using headphones. I like the tone through guitar speakers. Low wattage tube amps cannot be pushed. Even 1 watt amps are too loud.
Here is my review of my favourite practice amp. Enjoy and let's build a music community together!

I purchased a THR 30II (black) and I absolutely love it. With the App, I have created Fender Princeton-like "Cleans" & can also get Van Halen-like tones = Sounds killer. It's so-Inspiring & Perfect for a NYC apartment.

Agreed, I get a lot of inspiring tones from it at "talking levels"!

If you pair a 1w tube amp with an inefficient speaker you can definitely push them without being too loud. There are also load boxes and built in attenuators on lots of amps these days. There are also solid state amps like Quilter which do a great job. Just not a fan of digital amps, I'd rather plug into the ipad at that point. The THR10 just doesn't sound very good to me personally and the effects are meh at best. If you like it, that's cool as taste is all subjective. I'd happily spend 3-5x the money and get something really great like a Tone King Gremlin or build a kit if that's too much cash. Budgets are of course highly individual.

@@mooseymoose I looked into Quilter before, but that is over $1000, so it’s not really a fair comparison. THR10 for $300 is pretty solid value. For that price range, it’s better than the Fender and Marshall digital amps. All subjective, just got to play what you like.

@@mattlau Quilter SuperBlocks are like $250, of course they need a cab+speaker but still amazing bang for the buck.

You couldn't play this in a live setting. You can put a microphone in front of it but it still wouldn't sound right.

For sure! I use it only for acoustic style jams (with 1 singer + acoustic) and bedroom practice really
