Hi guys. I've got same bike with original engine 50cc and 3-gear speed. I want to swap it for 110 or 125cc chinese engine and i think its no so difficult to make it,but i want to leave a shaft also, because its the most interesting part of this bike. So the question is how the shaft connects to the engine?)) Your video's was a last hope to see what is behind the left cover of engine before i start "destroying" my yamaha myself😂

Converting a shaft driven bike to an engine designed for a chain would be a pretty huge engineering project, as the engine delivers power on the wrong plane. That’s why you have the drive hub on the rear wheel of the Townmate, to covert the power back in to the correct orientation to drive the wheel forwards. You’d need to fabricate a similar arrangement at the engine end, and somehow get it to mate up with the Townmate driveshaft. You’d lose a lot of real world power in the process of twice changing the orientation of power delivery before it gets to the rear wheel. So you would likely not gain much actual speed after the conversion. Now... nothing is impossible with enough time, money, and expertise, but in my opinion it’s a mistake. The Townmate is quite a rare bike. It seems a shame to ‘ruin’ one unless you’re very confident that you can make the project work. My advice would be to get a Honda Cub instead. It’s basically the same but already set up for a chain drive. The conversion would be much much simpler. That way you can just enjoy riding the bike and forget about the shaft drive. If you insist on having a shaft drive, try to find the 80cc Townmate engine and rebuild it, so that it runs as well as it can do. If you wish to continue with the Chinese engine/shaft drive arrangement - I wish you the best of luck. Let us know how you get on! 👍

@@MechitBetter thanks for advice. I didn't thought about wheel rotation and it really can become a "surprise". Maybe it will be better to take off the engine, swingarm, driveshaft and put it on a shelf, because now it works perfectly and in 2050(for example) put it back and sale like a rarity and become a millionaire 😀

Извините, я мало что знаю о других байках. Я считаю, что все они очень похожи.
