Welcome to 'Mech it Better' - The motovlog of two enthusiastic amatuer tinkerers from Yorkshire in the UK. We ride bikes, we drive cars, and we have to fix both more often than should be necessary. Stick around and subscribe for regular videos documenting our trips, our falls, our failures, and our fixes!
If any of our videos have been helpful to you, you can now 'Buy us a Brew', or become a patron by following the links in the section below, or from the buttons on our cover image.
Appreciate you taking the time to leave a positive comment though. We did it specifically because we thought it might be useful to others, seeing as we couldn't really find anything that explained and showed it clearly. Glad it came in handy. Did it go smoothly for you?
Im currently trying to get my break pads in but my piston will not move so i have taken the top headlight section of the bike off but cannot locate the part you spoke of in the video any chance you van help me ?
How tall are you? Does the bike fit you for your size? I am thinking about buying one of these to start of but the seller was worried about my height and me being to tall. I am 191cm (about 6,2)
Hi, As I'm sure I've made clear, I thoroughly enjoyed owning this bike so you're on the right track. It's an absolute trooper ...if you look after it 😉 I'm about 173cm and felt like it was a good fit for me. This doesn't instantly mean it's going to be a bad choice for you. I would highly recommend getting your butt on which ever bike you intend to buy, or at least the same model, to let your body give you the answer. It's the best/easiest way to be sure and potentially the most accurate (even if you are just sat on it). All the little things like are the foot controls in a comfortable position, how much do you have to bend your knees, does the position of the handlebars force bad posture or put your shoulders in an uncomfortable position? etc All things that you just don't know without physically straddling your weapon of choice. Taller riders tend to go for the cruiser style bikes to get a bit more leg room but if that's not your style, a supermoto might give your legs the breathing room they need but retain the more typical riding position. It might be worth visiting a local motorbike shop to see if you can swing a leg over a few different styles to see what suits you best and then match it to your budget. Does any of that sound like it might be useful?
Fair play to you for getting stuck in iv just bought one of these vans thinking It was the 1.9 engine without knowing it was the 2.0 that needed a starter motor change 😢🤣
Hi, The outer diameter for the versys shims is 7.48mm. You can buy specific kits for the bike which includes a whole bunch of different thicknesses to cover a wide range of adjustments or you can buy separately. It's obviously a bigger investment to buy a full kit but then you're probably covered for all eventualities before you even strip the bike down to check. At that point you can replace them straight away and reassemble. If you can survive without the bike for a while, do the check and then order the specific ones you need. Just be very sure you're measurements are correct. We we're lucky that the guys at NYAB (where we did the video) already had stock available to use onsite and we didn't have to order any. A company I have previously used for bike parts is Wemoto. They do list shims for the versys. Hope that helps
Really well done lads, my old Punto is waay past needing front struts plus goodness knows what else and i found this video to be brilliant, thank you 😊
Apologies for not responding sooner, especially to such a glowing comment of positivity. Much appreciated. Have you had a bash at the task? If so, how did it go?
Hi there, may i know how tall are you? I am interested in this bike but i am 189 cm tall and afraid my knee may touch front cabin when sitting down on it.
just got my son one of these. 2013. runs well enough for a 125. wont win any races. just 1 thing. anyone have any issues with neutral light not working? did you resolve it. ? cheers
Bonsoir. Merci pour votre question. I chose to leave the radiator attached because I had recently replaced the coolant and bled the system so I didn't want to do it again. Yes, it would be easier if it was removed but we managed anyway.
i have a 2012 trafic 2.0 dci with injector fault and 3 garages i took her to there code readers cant pin point whats going on .. also dpf needs cleaning out.. had her 5 years she had brand new turbo over 2 years ago love driving her but worried about high repair costs now..
You can do this without removing the "Pear" valve, just 2 bolts ontop for the pipe 8mm and the 3 securing the cover, maybe I am just a master of removing arkward parts from working on vws... ;)
Mechanic of over 15 years.... Suzuki strikes again. That is one of the most poorly engineered tensioners I've come across in an engine bay with plenty of room for a norman tensioner. Literally so much room at the power steering pump for a tensioner setup the same as the alt belt. Holy shit I hate Suzuki's turdbox's.
