Just got back from a late summer trip to Idaho on out tdubs. Started in Fairfield, rode the sawtooths, turned and headed north all the way to Wallace on dirt! Then, back south. What a state man!!
I have foldable mirrors on my TW. I also have handle bar lever guards. They will definitely save the levers. Imagine breaking a front brake lever at the top of a long steep downhill. The clutch would also cause issues if you were far back in the bush. You can always carry extra levers, but if you wreck and break those, you will be in the same predicament.
Yeah its not as smooth as some other bikes I have had. After a few months I finally learned to SLOW DOWN ha ha and let a bit of air out of the tires. Makes it a little more comfortable.
I screwed up my Knee the first time with a Hodaka geared for 20 MPH top speed. I now have an artificial knee. I love my TW. I use to ride XT600s, but I can't lift them up any more. I am 77 and I am not a strong as I use to be.
