Thank you so much for posting this!!! Everything I needed to know and no crappy background music (which is a thing now). I've never rebuilt a carburetor before. Very informative.
As long as the rubber membrane is OK. No tears or hole in it.... it will be fine. You can try to clean the stuff off with a carburetors cleaner carefully...someone put that on previously and the fuel and heat made a mess out of it...thanks for your interest and please subscribe. Good luck!
I really appreciate your videos. I was able to remove, clean/rebuild, and put my carburetor back in with no problem. It was my first carburetor rebuild on my first bike. Thanks again.
I followed ur steps my problem fixed. My vstar accelerate so slow + lost a lot of power. I did some decent carb cleaning now it works great. You the boss
Thank you so much for this video, I just got a 2008 V Star that had been parked for a while and wouldn't Start and with the guidance of this video I was able to get it running great! You are a BAMF! Appreciate you man
I dont usually make comments on RU-vid but you sir did an amazing job at breaking this down. Really great teacher and awesome camera work. Was able to see and identify everything very very clearly. Thank you
One more thing, there is a tiny o-ring inside the Main jet holder. How do you replace that? Mine was hidden and invisible inside the holder where the jet screws into it. The threads on the jet stop before they get to the head so I'm not sure if they should be pushed up to there or if they sit down inside the jet holder post like a garden hose washer sits inside the part you screw onto the spigot.
Liked and subscribed! Thank you. I have confirmed that battery works, new spark plugs, bike cranks and makes effort to start but does not actually start.. carb sound like culprit here!!??
You said the main jets are different. The one on the idle adjust screw has a bigger or smaller hole? I think I might have screw them in in the wrong position
Thanks for the video! I just have a question, before I start cleaning my V's carbs. The o-rings you replaced on the needle valve assy, can they be bought seperately, cause according to Yamaha's parts catalogue, you can buy only the whole assy. Thumbs up again for your posts!
Before you do the job I recommend buying the seat and the needle assembly and the gasket for the foat bowls. This way you got everything ready before you start. Thank you for watching the video and please subscribe to help me out.
I just picked up a 07 united motor 250r v2s Hyosung. The guy gave me 2 brass bolt heads. So took the carburetors off open them up and seen where he busted them off flush right under both flots. So does anyone know where i can pick up new carburetors? They are Mikuni corp. Carburetors made in Japan. I know they look like the ones in the video but im not sure. I don't work on many bikes.
The first mistake in cleaning your carbs is tearing into them without first using a good carb cleaner in a tank of gas. 95% of the time, if your carbs are plugged from old E10 gas, running Seafoam and riding the bike hard, with the trottle open 75% or more, will clear your jets, float bowl, and fuel pump within 200 miles. IF your bike will start and run at all, Seafoam or another carb cleaner is worth a try, about $10. Obviously if the jets are totally plugged you cant clear them by running fuel through them. Or if they are clogged from rust in the tank.
So I put shorty cobra pipes on my v star and it is not running anymore so I decided to clean the carbs would you recommend doing a jet kit for it because of the pipes? Would doing this make my bike run again?
Man I could use your help with a few things .. thanks for the carb video I've been looking for something like this Reach out I want to see if you'd be interested in helping me out with a project
Excellent video. I'm quite familiar with carbs but since I haven't done this type of set-up before I'd do 1 side at a time and I'd take pics of the process of disassembly to help the process along. Thanks for your efforts!
Friend, thank you for uploading the video, you are a good mechanic and I wanted to ask you why when you open the ignition key, my motorcycle has gasoline coming out of the hose that is the outlet of the carburetors and I saw the key and it stops coming out.
I'm a little worried because what you call the choke jet doesn't seem to have a hole in it. Is it smaller than any other jet? I have carb cleaning needles and the smallest one's tip seems to find what may be a hole, but it won't go in. Maybe I need to buy a wire brush? You show the wire going all the way in. I'm afraid to put my carb back together because everything else is clean, but I can't verify this is clear.
@@DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs Found it! I did have a tiny plugged hole in each tube. The smallest carb cleaning needle was too large to clean that hole when clogged. I used a copper wire from an electrical hookup wire since I didn't have a wire brush. I had to let carb cleaner sit in it and keep poking with the wire until I could find the hole. If the hole is plugged, it is very difficult to find the tiny hole in the center of the larger hole. Thanks for your help!
When you said “about 2.5 turns” about the air and gas mixture screws , were you insinuating 2.5 full rotations , AND/OR 900 exact degrees , instead of an extremely vague alternative ? Great video ! Thanks !! I subscribed !!!
You're going to give them "about 2.5 turns" then tune and sync them once they're on the bike and running. This is how all carburetors work. You have a baseline where you know (the factory knows) your carburetors will definitely operate (probably poorly) and then you go from there. That's the point where the bike will at least fire up so you can get it tuned.
Most likely the air box it's not attached to the carburetor correctly and it's sucking too much air. Take the gas tank back off and check the small air box, where the two clamps are attached to the carburetor that it's nice and tight and also that the outer airbox is conected correctly ... it's very important ! If it's sucking air in any of those connections it will act exactly the way you have described
No you don't need to....as long as you don't separate the 2 carburetors from each other...good luck and thanks for watching. Please subscribe to see more in the future
This is a great video! I think it is very clear on how to clean it. It is giving me the confidence for me to do it myself. I appreciate your tips! Did you do one on how to remove and replace the carbs?
That's tough. I've had that happen few times myself. Used PB Blaster spray and soaked it. Few times I had to drill it out and buy new ones. There really isn't easy answer to it. Hope this helped you and please subscribe to help me out . Good luck and let me know how you got them out...
I have the same bike. I cleaned both the pilot and main jets thoroughly in both carbs. But the problem i am having is the bike just idles, and when i give it more throttle it shuts off. also when it idles the front cylinder is not working and the air is cold when i feel it on the exhaust. i opened the air filter. when i cover the air hole completely the bike works fine i can even ride it. for some reason its sucking in too much air (replaced the air filter but the problem persists). can you tell me what i need to do....please . thank you
You actually answered your own question when you said it's sucking way too much air...the problem you having is with the airboxes. They have popped off their place in one or more areas... there is one airbox on top of the carburetors that is connected to bigger one on the side. You need to recheck carefully all of the connection between the air boxes and the carburetors. Thank you for your interest in my video and please subscribe to help me out.
ALWAYS take floats out first. Holy 💩 I just watched the rest of the video because I initially stopped when I saw he doesn't remove the floats first which is a good way to break them. This may not be a bad vid but it's not a good one either. NEVER PUT A DAB OF SUPER GLUE ON THE DIAPHRAGM! It will deteriorate it where it's applied to the diaphragm and even if it doesn't melt it there will be damage to it and this is a great way to ruin it. If the diaphragm won't stay persuade it will an almost non existent smear of gasket maker to tack it in place. You don't need to use water to rinse it either. Another idea that's more bad than good. Blow off the dip cleaner and that's enough. Wipe out the diaphragm chamber of you're worried residue will deteriorate it. What a half @$$. Purple power probably etches the aluminum or any residue left behind will have a nasty chemical reaction inside the carbs when it mixes with gas.
The bigger jet always goes to the rear cylinder because it's running hotter ... thank you for your interest and please subscribe... it will help me out 😊
A great detailed instructional video. I am curious what purpose those electrical leads are for? I also noticed that black cylindrical plastic thing on the left side of the carburetors. Could it be a sort of electrical fuel primer? I notice on my V-Star when I start the engine I hear a clicking noise for about two seconds and then stops.
Ive watched this video a million times. Ive rebuilt tons of carbs too. I replaced the float needles and seats in my carbs and cleaned the jets with an actual tool for cleaning jets. Cant figure out why the rear cylinder is misfiring now. It was running fine before i took it apart. Now ive taken them apart and put them back in the bike like 6 times. I even bought new carb boots to make sure there is no vacuum leaks. sprayed starting fluid all over my engine to double check. Ive been at this for four days now... im a mechanic too so this is really hurting my ego lol. i really hope my intake valve isnt messed up. maybe the mixture screw or the main jet hole after the gas travels through the tube???
@@DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs Yes ive taken them off and put them back on multiple times, checking to make sure its all the way connected to both carbs.
You didn't remove the brass bolt sort of blocking the pin to remove the floats. Mine was gunked up inside and then one of them sheared off when I was putting it back. What is that called and where can I find that? Can I also find just the washer for the main jet tube?
@@EpicSidequest Yes, you found it like I did. As usual, an outrageous price for a tiny little piece of metal. I with there was a home way, like a 3D printer to make things like this.
Try metals depot . c o m for cheaper parts / materials . If you have a better recommendation (other than Craigslist treasure hunting) , I would absolutely love to hear about it . Thanks .
I'm having a wierd problem with my bike, I cleaned the carb and jets put on new rings, put my bike back together but my bike needs to have choke in order to stay on. I have to let my bike warm up for like 10-15 min if not my bike will turn off when I stop at a stop sign. Even still with that time to warm up my bike still turns off unless it's been running for a really long time. My bike used to not do this before and i didnt even need to put on the choke before but now it's to the point that it turns off often like the jets are clogged or something but i already cleaned them. Am i missing something? I dont know what's wrong please help me.
@@Beeskness basically I cleaned up the carburetor, I checked the box that sits on top of the carb and cleaned it, I made sure the places where the carb was connected to the box thing on top and the elbows that lead to the cylinders was cleaned and tightly connected so there wouldnt be any air leaks, my bike needed a valve adjustment that was also causing my engine to run harder and once I did all that my bike would start up pretty easily
Help! at minute 3:25 you take the Philips head screws off holding the brass fitting (in place) with the screen on it...I am cleaning a carb that has probably sat for...years. Yep. Years. How, may I ask, do I pull that brass jet(?) out?? As it is stuck in there! It does not want to come out! Rust spray? Carb cleaner spray? I am grateful for your suggestions. Thank you!
I found this one for you...its all you should need to do the 2 carbs...rest of the parts will be cleaned up just like in the video...thanks for watching and please subscribe...good luck! www.ebay.com/itm/2x-Carburetor-Carb-Repair-Rebuild-Kits-Yamaha-XV250-XVS650-V-Star-K-L-18-5171/292618300866?epid=171141302&hash=item442168edc2:rk:1:pf:0
These carbs don’t look anything like my 07 Vstar 650 classic carbs. I think there is a leak cause small amounts of gas puddle over time when it sits but I’m new to bikes so I’m trying to figure this shit out lmaoo
Best recondition carb video on the internet Thank You man so helpful. I can't beliwve the detail. I wish thère were only these kind of tutorials aside from all the other BS on RU-vid
Thank you so much man. My bike was running terrible for months and I couldn’t figure out why. Would bog down every time I tried to ride and got on the accelerator. You saved my ass man
I got my bike back on the road thanks to your videos!! The carb was full of white almost plastic looking gunk. Thanks so much for your help, I could not have gotten it fixed without your videos! I runs better than it has in years!
Make sure your air box is correctly attached to the carburetors...if it popped away it will ide fine but it will choke up if you try to accelerate...these carburetors don't have acceleration pump or squirters as you said...so if the air box is fine then you got to open them up and see what's going on. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and please subscribe to see more videos like this one in the future!
That's not it ....if that airbox popped off it's getting way too much air, so your balance is so far off that the bike will choke with the excessive amount of air.... The fuel get delivered to the carburetors via fuel pump.
Inside the diaphragm I unscrewed the plastic piece and the other piece that has a spring and plastic piece that goes down on top of the needle which way does it go I want to make sure I have it the correct way.
How haverá you domingo . Sou brasileiro e moro em São Paulo Brasil, eu tenho uma star 650 , 2008, assistindo seus vídeos, aprendi a limpar eu mesmo, o carburador de minha moto. Congratulations.
You might get lucky to solve your problem by removing the float bowls and clean the jets...but in my opinion its easy to just take them off and inspect everything while you at it...but what the hell right?....give it a try. I hope you will subscribe brother...it will help me out
