Well I see why you didn’t answer the question when I asked it. No amount of talking can take the place of listening to the effect the V-1 neck makes. I was very impressed with how dark the sound is with the gold neck installed.

I thought the gold plated G1 sounded the best, the V! Sounds like my 84, purple stencil YAS 62 with the stock neck. Currently using the G! And love the core tone I get

The quirkiness of the Bundy neck could be attributed to the length of the octave key pip . If you go to shwoodwind.co.uk and look at his review of the YAS-62 Purple Logo where he compares parts of the horn to each other . He explains the newer Yamaha necks are longer in length and the octave key pip ( vent hole ) is closer to the neck collar , whereas the original neck is shorter in length but the octave key pip is closer to the mouthpiece . This is most likely the issue with the Bundy neck sounding good , but gets quirky over different ranges of the horn .

Were you able to try the solid sterling silver V1 neck at any time in your other tests? If so, what was your impression?
@KevinBene

Thanks for the comment! I have tried the sterling silver very briefly.. hard to explain in words but it definitely has specific qualities different then the other necks. Extremely rich and fluid tone, really good for classical musicians. Lots of high end and great for altissimo. It gives the saxophone almost a flute like quality. I talk about the sterling silver very briefly in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HW8tVAONyk0.html around minute 6. Hopefully this helps a little, but there is no substitute for trying it out for yourself if you can get a hold of one!!

Yeah these necks are hard to get a hold of these days. I have an Amazon link in description but it looks like they only have the sterling silver neck (different then my silver PLATED neck). But if you want to go with that you can use that link. Otherwise the only other place I know that sells them is wwbw.com. Unfortunately I can't post direct links to the comments here.

Great Video Kevin...Can you let me know if changing out the Neck helps with getting to the Altissimo range? I would also like If anyone can share any finger Altissimo finger charts and Tips or Guidance for first time trying to expand my range. I currently play Alto Yas Intermediate very old Saxophone. Thanks All !

@KevinBene 2 года назад
Hey Daniel, so I assume you have a YAMAHA 575 allegro saxophone. If that is the case the best bet is to get a Yamaha YAS23 neck (great neck for a beginner horn that wont break the budget too bad, lol) just make sure your horn is indeed a Yamaha so it fits. You can purchase them on amazon, I have a link in my description. If you use that link at no extra cost to you I will get a cut.

Hi, my friend, congratulations on the video. Recently I bought a Alto Yas 875 from 1990 one of the earliest with tudel M1, you think I will gain more harmonies and punch if I switch to V1, as I found the M1 with the sound very small.
@KevinBene
@KevinBene 5 лет назад
Rubens thanks for the comment! I have never had a chance to play on the older M1 necks.. but honestly I believe the V1 necks are far superior then any other Yamaha necks when it comes to flexibility, intonation, dynamic range, and clarity of tone. Just my opinion of course from what I have had a chance to try out!

Thanks for posting your reply : My YTS-875 also has the M1 neck and I am here because I am looking at alternative Necks for my YTS-875, For me the M-1 neck is pretty good and I purchased for the warm vintage sound that I was able to get from it and the flexibility to go from Jazz set and the community concert band that I also play in. I am looking for a "fatter" sound and I am thinking about the VI unlacquered. I do not find the M1 to be small depending on the MP/reed combination that I couple with a setup. I would like to know what you went with. ( i also play alto but I have an older 52 which has been "adusted" and plays like the 62 for its age....I'm keeping the Olde Girl! She has been very good to me! ) Hope to hear from you . G

I have a Yamaha 62iii silver model. I'm thinking of getting an unlacquered V1 neck to add overtones, and knock brightness back a little. Do you agree with the reasoning?
@KevinBene
@KevinBene Год назад
Hmm, I'm not sure if raw brass will nessicarily be darker. Personally I haven't experimented with raw brass necks or saxophones much. But from what I hear raw brass livens things up more (brighter), especially with Yamaha. But you may get interesting results with a silver horn and an unlacquered neck.
@rhrh2025
@rhrh2025 Год назад
Thanks! I'll ask them at Woodwind and Brasswind. You may be right, and I don't need any more brightness. I guess I was thinking more resonance!

Hi Kevin, which neck model will produce better sound of YAS 480? Thank u
@KevinBene
@KevinBene 4 года назад
Thanks for the comment! I don't have any experience with the YAS 480 but any of the yamaha upgraded models by yamaha will be a significant improvement. Usually speaking... V1 For jazz/contemporary styles, C1 for more classical styles, E1 for best of both worlds. Hope that helps!

I have a question So I had a neck that would fit perfectly but now is too loose Is there any way to fix it?
@KevinBene
@KevinBene 4 года назад
Hmm interesting. The tenon may have stretched. You could try to tighten the neck screw without the neck in the sax. So you are basically clamping the tenon down, you would need to clamp it down over night at least. It's probably best to take it to a repair man, since you wouldn't want to overdo the tightening.

That you for the video, Kevin. I'm intrigued to get a V1 neck for my Yamaha tenor. It came with a "62 neck", which is, I think, a C-variant of the standard Yamaha neck. It means, narrow bore, to make it easier for new players to begin playing. However, narrow bore has a side-effect: when one tries to push more air through to get a 'wider stage', the saxophone easily jumps into overtones, which is NOT what I want. So I thought that with V1 I can control overtones and broaden the sound stage. What was your experience with this?
@KevinBene
@KevinBene 4 года назад
Thanks for the comment! Not quite sure what you mean by C-Variant? The only Yamaha Necks I have experience with are G1 and V1. When it comes to pushing into overtones, it sounds like you mean over blowing the horn. Usually happens when your set up can't take the amount of air you put in, or the "type" of air. I will say that the V1 neck let me fill up the horn with more air then the G1 neck.
@zvonimirtosic6171
@zvonimirtosic6171 4 года назад
@@KevinBene Hi Kevin. The the 62 tenor comes with the so-called "62-style neck". Number 62 is engraved on the neck. According to my Yamaha specialist, that neck, and C1 neck in Yamaha's line, are practically the same, because C1 was based on "hydroformed 62 neck". C1 has the narrowest taper of all necks, which imposes a problem when pushing more air through, (sometimes needed for different types of music). I had hoped V1 allows more air through-output, and be a more versatile neck overall.
@KevinBene
@KevinBene 4 года назад
@@zvonimirtosic6171 got it. Yes I believe it is safe to say that the V1 neck is designed in such a way (more taper) that allows for a lot of air to be pushed through. The C1 seems to be more suited for the classical musicians, more direct tone. I use the V1 for classical and jazz styles, as do other musicians.
