Wow thanks, this is an excellent video! It's been over 10 years but this information will be relevant for many people for many years to come! Good job, kiitos!
I bought a 1987 Virago 535xv last month and have no mechanical skills whatsoever. This video is perfect. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in clear and concise way.
Thank you very much for your clear demonstration of the Verago oil change....Boy did i need that as i am a new guy to the verago and self servicing of motorbikes...Cool...you have a very nice Verago...
I had my 96 virago for a month. First bike. Loved her. Bright red perfect condition. Then this Friday the 13th 2017 she was totaled. I was very comfortable on the bike. I got hit by a minivan. Lady carried full fault. I was going 30mph.
Liam Czarnecki Sorry to hear, If there is something good in this accident, it is that you are here to tell it. Metal and plastic can be repaired or replaced. Hope you can find new Virago in same or even better condition an have enjoyable miles with it.
good morning yep been looking all over, I particularly wanted hard cases again as I have givi cases already. I use Fehling on my XV250 but it's for soft/leather only . ok thank you. be safe out there , I bought my first 535 1991 just serviced her all the way. Thanks for advice and your videos they were a great help.
Hi, funny thing, your comment appear to be placed 4 days ago, got notification of that. When I come to comment i see that I have replies 7 years ago .. strange. Anyway I hope you have still your bike and you have enjoyed it. Haven't done any video lately, but I will do when spring comes in :-)
You are welcome. By doing easier repairs yourself you start to learn your bike and small obstacles later are easier to handle. Also you save some time & money.
You are welcome, I'm happy it has helped you. We have -16 degrees Celsius this morning and 2 cm of snow on the ground, so driving seoason is over here :-( De nada, fico feliz que tenha ajudado você.
@@jarmojarvinen1585 Yeah, the r is great :-) By the way a friend of mine told me, that together with the filter also the bolt washer should be changed. Would you happen to know anything about that?
+alegdansk You are welcome. I'm glad if you found it useful. Just changed new battery to my Virago, driving season is approaching. Some snow on the ground, but road tarmac is free of ice ... except early morning after freezing night. Just returned from Germany last friday and jealously looked German motor bikers there as their season is much ahead ours.
Be warned, idk if its just mine or all the viragos. i have an 87 virago 700 that needed the carbs cleaned and since they leaked for so long the gas leaked into the oil pan and now iv got a bigger problem iv got to replace the oil filter n clean all the gas out and put new oil in it but cant afford it right now.
very informative, i've just bought a 2nd hand virago and this video really helps. Thank you for the tips! i hope you'll continue making videos for some other things too! cheers..
Right it does, but dont be surprised if you find one more. There is one casette type on left lower side, access needs more work and not cleaned at every oil change, pretty hidden.
Hi, see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_22tVBjxofQ.html at 23-25 seconds. There is brown long cassette going into square hole. That cassette is filter actually.
My oil drain plug is rusted and the bolt is almost smoothed round. When I get it out I'll have to replace it but I'm having trouble finding the part number. Can you help me out?
Excuse me Jarmo, how much did you give for your virago? The condition looks extremely good, my xv 90' is lacking chromium and a lot of screws and plugs are difficult to get off, i still love it though! Love the videos, please make more!
+johanlob Hi Johan. There is about 26000 km in the meter and it is 2000 model. Not huge amount of km. I see some beginning rust on area where front wheel throws water & dirt, need to clean this summer. Normally I try to wipe specially those areas with oily cloth for winter storage but forgot it last year.
I see, that sounds good and your bike is really mint with all the chromium left it seems! I was just wondering since I just bought my bike and changed the engine oil & filter, break pads, air filter and the spark plugs. A lot of fun since this is my first real bike. I was just going to ask you since I haven't really found the answer but the capacity of the engine oil is 2.8L and I think I filled it with exactly that amount; 2.8L. My friend said afterwards that it might not be good to fill the tank with the full capacity since it can be detrimental to the bike (foaming or something like that) if it's full. I looked into the little glass window and it has a small air bubble in the top, maybe 2-3mm. Do you think i should take some oil out or is it fine? Also, is the final gear oil as important as the regular engine oil change? Sorry for the long post! Cheers and please make more vids! haha
+johanlob Hi I would fill to the area near middle or slightly higher of sight window, but not below. Remember bike must be level on both directions. It is correct do not overfill, keep the oil level in window. Oil foam may cause heat/lubrication issues. There are moving parts around so I suppose oil is not completely bubble free at surface.
You are welcome. Here driving season is a bit postponed as 1.5 weeks ago weather turned very cold and this week it is snowing! Temp -4 deg C ( abt 25 deg f).... Damn.
Don't know if you still around 2012- but my bike seems to have the oil window closed up (removed) just a black plug in its slot from where the location of your unit is; any suggestions on how to check the oil levels with out the oil window?
Hi.You are talking about drain plug or fill cap ? Have you tried cold spray for drain plug ? Spray it to plug it may help and use good wrench to open it.
I have put oil in. But when l lift the bike the window with oil goes empty! I have put 2.8litres in. I dont know if l did something wrong? When the bike is standing on a side the oil shows ok. When l make it straight / it disappears. Is that ok? Thank you!
Hi Sorry to be late, I suppose you have discovered that a bit more oil is needed to keep it in the window when bike is standing straight. Mine is fine with 2.8 liters, just changed them last weekend. I tried to find if some earlier models have different capacity but could not find in quick search. Camshaft Valvetrain Configuration OHC Maximum power - Output - Horsepower 42.00 HP (30.7 kW) Maximum torque 34.00 Nm (3.5 kgf-m or 25.1 ft.lbs) Engine Maximum RPM 7000 Cooling system Air Lubrication system Wet sump Engine oil capacity 2.80 litres (0.18 quarts) Exhaust system Double stainless steel pipes with expansion chamber
Hi I would replace spark plugs to owners manual recommeded ones, check ignition timing, Ignition circuit cable/contacts checking .. and ...are valve clearances OK. Do others have better ideas?
Good morning from UK, I know it's a Givi that's why I am after one but perhaps you know the model number ? Perhaps it's discontinued? As I've been looking everywhere for them.
Good morning from finland. Yes that is possible they are discontinued. Fehling is doing frames/racks for Givi panniers have you beem looking those.. If that cant help maybe some metal shop can do modifications for modell available?
How about the size of the o ring ... as in radius or diameter and also thickness of the o ring (rubber) I need to change my oil and I can’t seem to get them cheap would like to get it made before I do it as it’s my only mode of transport any help would be appreciated 😊
@@utku8654 for oil filter its coming with filter. For other rings Yamaha center or just some generic supplier ( like IKH ). I quess bike shop like Storm motor and others have too.
My xv535 keep drop power then backfire and then power up again while riding but only after 30min of riding. I have no idea what wrong. Could anyone help?
Have you any Virago group in the facebook? That is often useful source to find some parts as some peoples may have extras. Yamaha dealer, e-bay, Amazon etc Does it help?
