Yamaha VSTAR 1100 Maxair Predator Pro Pod Kit Installation and Maintenance

Often asked about the pod kit setup on my bike I have some time to go through it due to a mechanical throttle issue. The Vstar simply cannot breathe in stock form and can greatly benefit from a pod kit. Years ago I'd picked up this kit, so Ill take the time to go through it, disassemble it, go through its installation, the modification of the carbs, the floats and the subsequent re-installation and balancing. With my kit I'd also purchased the longer Pilot screw this is highly recommended for the bike with or without a pod kit.
Its important to remember that the settings and jets are always recommendations, each bike is different and should be put on a dyno for a final assessment.

I hate watching your videos sometimes. You always make them to a point of where it gives me just enough confidence to do it myself instead of taking it to a shop...lol. Thanks for all of the XVS1100 videos man. They have been an absolute life(and wallet!!!) saver!

This video makes me want a similar pod kit on my XVS650. This comes after seeing your other videos on the ignition system and I diganosed that my front cylinder wasn't sparking... I thought I had to replace the front ignition coil, turns out once I got to it the plug had just come off! Repaired the loose connection (as well as the other lead which also felt too loose) and I hope to be back on the road tomorrow. Thanks heaps Jordan!

@@retrotechandelectronics great video. This might seem like a stupid question but what is the off idle to mid range power like with the pod kit vs stock? I know many rave about the pod kits but some, including some shops say CV carbs (used on the 1100) actually lose power except for a gain at the top end? I believe I can trust you to give unbiased feedback on how you found it. My first time with motorcycle carbs ect, V8s before. Thanks

I am thinking of getting the same pod kit for my vstar 1100 as what you have to replace the stock air box. I have also been looking at the spiked cone filter that would mount on the right side. Would this be a choice of either the spiked cone filter or the pod kit but not both?
@jesseespinoza7554

Hey bud so I really hope you see this question. My vstar 1100 won't run off the choke, which brings me to your video. But when getting to the carb, I noticed there was no air filter. I just bout the thing so I'm not sure how long if at all it was ran without. That being said, I'm wondering if theres anything else I need to do besides ofcorse putting a filter in, to make it run/ last longer

Awesome video!! have you noticed any variance in the gas consumption either way after installing this kit? How many miles per tank are you getting before hitting reserve?
@SuperJAWman
@SuperJAWman Год назад
I also would like to know. MaxAir and related testimonies claim an increase from 35-40 mpg to 40-45 mpg. I currently get anywhere from 28 to 38 mpg, or from 90 to 120 miles before reserve. This is too little for me. Doing 80 down the interstate even for a short sprint drinks the gas. I guess the Vstar is a Flying Brick, as they say.
@UFO-047
@UFO-047 Год назад
@@SuperJAWman speed has a lot to do with mileage tho. Mine has 100% stock intake and currently stock exhaust with straight through mufflers, 2-2. Im in the mountains in Australia and hilly everywhere, at 62-65mph on the highway here I get about 44 USmpg. As it was from previous owner, has 120,000km- 74,000miles on it
@retrotechandelectronics
@retrotechandelectronics Год назад
So…. Yes. But it all comes down to the ability to burn more gas. That said. Driven casually there was no consumption increase

So I recently bought an 06 V Star 1100 with approximately 61k miles for 1000 dollars. Bought it from a kid who was looking to flip it but he wasn't very mechanically inclined as the bike only ran with choke on, seems like a classic plugged up jet issue. I recently serviced the carbs based on your videos (THANK YOU!) and now have the bike running pretty well. The bike came with Vance&Hines pipes which sound amazing except for a popping under deceleration especially 1st and 2nd gear. Now the air intake system is stock (unlike yours), so my guess is that the popping is unburnt fuel detonating in the exhaust system, is there a way to cure that without removing and rejetting carbs? Also is it unhealthy for the bike.. if it isn't, well I guess I could live with it. Thanks!

I put some slips on in my bike vstar 1100 and now I have backfiring issues if i put this new air system Wil be stop the problem or need chance jet kit too
@T_bone
@T_bone 2 месяца назад
It is the Air Injection System (AIS). It is an emissions reduction system that is supposed to burn unburnt fuel in a stock 2 pipe system. When you switch, it means more popping and backfires as the system is working as it was intended. It can be eliminated but don't do it if you have to still smog it or it isn't exempt.

Tremendous! Stock main jet is roughly 115, the new kit requires a 142. That says something!!!

A waste of money and effort. The VStar is not a performance bike. Re-jetting, straight pipes and forced air induction will cost almost $1000.00. And for what? Eight more horsepower?
