We explore some EXTREMELY difficult trails in Central Oregon! The Rim Butte OHV trails are steep, narrow with tons of unstable lava rock. Really the ultimate test for any off road vehicle.
Our good friends have a Yamaha Wolverine X2 R-Spec. We thought it would be fun to compare it to our Yamaha Wolverine RMAX 2 XTR. The X2 has minimal modifications including: 15” wheels and 29” MT Tires. Our RMAX has been extensively modified with 34” tires (check out previous video for full details).
We had a blast! Fantastic trails loaded with difficult obstacles everywhere. In the end, both rigs made it through. RMAX was a bit more graceful thanks to the ground clearance and larger tires. However, the X2 was fun with better visibility, lighter weight and it somehow scooted through despite the smaller tires.

Absolutely! It's great fun pushing the limits and getting rigs through. Amazing to see what is possible even with a small rig

That looked like some great riding! Thanks for sharing! At what point did you lose the driver front hub cap? I lost one off of my 900S somewhere on Indian Ridge at Hatfield McCoy.

You bet! We broke it on that trail... rock made contact and busted the clips. Guess part of the deal when rock crawling. Still fun!

@@TruckCamper that’s a beast of a machine you have. Did you do any clutch work for those big tires?

@@williemaykit7940 Yes. It has every available modification for clutch. Everything beefed up for the tires: axles, steering, clutch.

Did you have to do anything special to the X2 to put 29” tires on it? I have a 2021 X2 Rspec and I believe they come with 27” tires as stock.

The X2.... is it in 4wd diff lock? Are the sway bar links disconnected?
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper Год назад
Yes. Most of the obstacles were with front diff lock. Sway bars disconnected

For those asking I have fitted 14 in wheels and 29 in tyres to a 2019 R spec X2 with no probs there is plenty of rm So far no probs re clutching lots more ground clearance and will do just short of 100kphl

My buddy in this video increased to 32" tires and followed me through the Rubicon trail. He did upgrade steering, front axles and front forward offset control arms. It did fine. And that's a difficult rock crawling trail.

@kurtfuller1026 Год назад
Did you put a lift kit on in order to fit the 34” tires?
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper Год назад
No lift. Check out our previous video for all the modifications. Biggest change to fit the tires was the forward offset a-arms. Thanks for watching!

do the wolverine run great whit the 29 inch do it need a lift kit?
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper Год назад
Don't believe he had any lift. The tires measured a bit smaller closer to 28" diameter. It is plenty capable for sure.

are u guys in low range?
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper Год назад
Yes. Low range... but the low gearing should be lower! Just need a shop to build gears for these.
@Peer_Teer
@Peer_Teer Год назад
The X2 would do better with a more aggressive tire proflile even in this format.
@TruckCamper
@TruckCamper Год назад
Possibly so. But the real issue was getting bottomed out (ground clearance). Just needed a bit more height. The RMAX was more graceful and less rough thanks to the suspension and clearance. Thanks for watching!

@TruckCamper

It is in low range. Keep in mind we are climbing rocks larger than the 34" tires... we did shim the sleave to help offset the tire size increase.
