Yamaha Wolverine X4 ThrottleMaxx and Winch Install 

Yep, I sold my 1000-5 to get the X4. I fell in love with the X4 when I got to review it. The X4 Is smaller and far more nimble in the woods, the seats are a lot more comfy (the flip up seats of the Pioneer are innovative and great for short trips but even my kids found them uncomfortable before lone and every adult I had ride back there was ready to get out in minutes) and is a lot quieter. The biggest factor was engine heat. The engine would heat the middle ROPS bars hot enough to hurt my hands and I did not what my kids to grab a hold of them. Then there is the transmission issues the early 1000’s had but I think Honda has most of that under control at this point. Yamaha now offers a 10 year warranty on their CVT belts so that’s a testament to how good they are! The Pioneer 1000 is a great machine and an awesome combo if you want a work and play buggy with a dump bed but I didn’t and the X4 is just better suited for me.

@@AppalachianMountainRiders Did you notice much of a power difference between the two?

Not much at all. The pioneer had more top end speed but the X4 feels snappier. Keep in mind the X4 is 5hp less than the Pioneer 1000 but also weighs a bit less. I find I can actually ride the X4 on my trails faster if I want because it’s smalller and much more nimble than the P1k5 was.

I plan on going with bigger tires so will need to change weights and probably go with a JBS sheave while I’m in there so that will give me chance to do just that!

From what I’ve seen on replacing the belt, it is not going to happen outside the shop. Too much to dismantle to get to the belt. There is a reason Yamaha has a 10 year warranty on the belt.

If you use one of the factory installed accessories plugs, there’s 6 of them behind the dash, you don’t need to add a fuse or worry about key on ignition wire as those are pre wired as both.

Aaron Reynolds awesome! Over a year later I still love mine and have no regrets. Now that I’ve started adding some performance goodies it’s only getting better!

Possibly, however I don’t like or recommend wireless remotes. In my experience there is always a delay both starting and stopping which could lead to accidents. Just my 2 cents

Those are factory installed 12v accessory plugs. They make the Yamaha accessory’s plug an play and you can also buy the other plugs ends to make any aftermarket accessory you buy plug and play as well.

@@AppalachianMountainRiders Ok thank you, that's what I thought, but have no what connectors would connect to those plugs. Could you have connected your winch plug to that instead of the one coming out of the dash like you did? Or would that winch plug end not fit on those?

jrb737 it blocks the access from the front a bit but you can still get to the full plug between the upper and lower a arms easy enough.

I haven’t needed to yet. I checked it after brake in and the oil still looked like it just came out of the bottle. I’ll be changing it at the second oil change which won’t be too long away.
