Thanks for sharing this info. FYI in my manual, (ch8-pg10), it says when checking the oil level Do NOT screw down the dip stick.

Great Video, helped me get to my oil filter. I couldn't get it off, guessing too tight from factory. Had to bang a screwdriver through it to get it off. One comment in the Service Manual it states when checking oil don't screw in the dip stick to check it. That's a pretty big difference. For me I would of guessed to screw it in to check it, but read the service manual several times over to verify that.

Yes good video. Only one thing. Make sure you run the engine for 10 minutes up to operate temp. Don't screw the dipstick in to check. It doesn't check the same cold.

Great video with great advice and very informative . One correction , the Yamaha X4 owners manual states " Remove the engine oil filler cap and wipe the dipstick with a clean rag. Insert the dipstick back into the oil tank(without screwing it in)and then remove it again to check the oil level . I just changed the oil on my '19 X4 and it required 3.5 US Qts to be at the max level .

I thought the dip stick for proper oil level was on passenger side under the seat belt buckle?
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 4 года назад
That’s the transmission oil which is separate from the engine and runs gear oil, not engine oil. Don’t get the two mixed up as that would not be good!😬

Some tips: Jack up the rear end when changing the oil filter and the tire will be out of your way. Use a cap filter wrench. My old 2015 Toyota RAV4 cap filter wrench worked perfectly. There's really not enough room to use a plier/scissor style oil filter wrench and if you do try using one you run the risk of hitting the oil pressure switch and possibly braking it. When filling her up, the engine has to be THROUGHLY warmed up and DO NOT fill to the top of the hatch marks or you could get oil into you air intake tract: www.wolverineforums.com/forum/162-wolverine-x2-x4-general-discussion/24858-x4-oil-puddling-intake-ducting-issue.html

THanks from new X4 owner over in Hazard!!! The fine print on the Yamalube warranty makes it pretty much useless. Doesn't cover ring wear, bearing wear, etc. Says if its knocking they won't cover it.

Thanks for posting! I had my heart set on the Honda Pioneer 1000-5 until I saw you traded her out for the X4. Still happy with the X4? I live in Colorado and am looking for a good machine for the family - we have a Polaris 850 2-up currently. I think the seat comfort, ride, quietness and minimal engine heat now have me leaning towards the X4. I am 6'-6" so it really comes down to comfort and roominess...seems the power of the two units is comparable for the type of rocky trail riding we will primarily be doing (not really looking to go 60+ MPH). What do you think? Thanks!
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 6 лет назад
Super happy with the X4. Love it and don't regret my decision at all. The 1000 is a great machine, don't get me wrong, but the X4 is a better machine for all the reasons you mentioned unless you plan on using it for utility purposes and need a dump bed. For trail riding, I can't really feel the difference in power until I get to nice open areas and the X4 actually feels quicker in the woods because it's a bit smaller and more nimble. However, with you being 6'6" you may find the X4 a bit cramped. I'm 5' 10" and a whopping 163 lbs and have plenty of room but someone your size may not. The worse part to the machine is getting in and out with the way the door latch protrudes into the door opening. Not a big deal once you get into the habit of raising the wheel to full height before you get out but until you do you can expect to smack your hips off that getting in and out...lol. Best thing would be to go to a dealer and check out the fit and if you find it too confined, well, you can't go wrong with a Pioneer 1000-5 either.

Well, I'm 6' 2", and its ALMOST too tight. I love my X4, but if I wasn't so fat, I would be much more comfortable. Especially getting in and out. So, I guess I need to start a diet and fitness regiment! Once seated, I'm fine, but I think it would be a little more cramped if I were 4" taller. Thanks for the video, Jason! Greetings from Western PA.!
@matthewcummins5889
@matthewcummins5889 6 лет назад
LOL! Thanks for the info, Josh! Sounds like i just need to get my lanky tail down to the dealership and just butt test them. The Pioneer seemed roomy enough, but with all of the engine heat and "different" back seats I am trying minimize the complaints I might here from the boss sitting next to me! Her approval = more riding! Take care, fellas.

What's the plug cap thing next to the spark plugs? Good job , I just got a 2022 850 x2, gas pedal is touchy on bumps
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 2 года назад
For the 850 its basically a “view port” but on the Rmax it’s one of the oil fills. With the Rmax you put about 2qts of oil in that port in the head and the rest in the tank but for reasons I’m not sure of the 850 you are not suppose to add oil through that port but add it all through the tank as I showed in the video. The only thing that might be the reason is Yamaha was developing the 1000 at the same time as the 850 and new they would be sharing the same basic design so just made some parts like the valve cover pretty much the same🤷🏻‍♂️ Also, look into getting a throttle max for your 850. I have a video of one I installed in my X4 and it will almost completely eliminate the touchy pedal. Had one in my Pioneer 1000-5 and still have one in my pioneer 500 and they work great!

What's the advantages of a dry sump ?
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 6 лет назад
There are quite a few actually but here are a couple top ones. They maintain constant oil pressure better than a wet sump system with an oil pan cause there is very little chance of starving the pump of oil like you can with a wet pump. Especially if you’re doing technical riding where you have the machine at steep angles for extended periods of time. The oil is also kept separate from the engine so it says cooler and also maintains viscosity better cause it gives any gasses from normal ring blow by a chance to escape. To go along with that dry sump systems usually hold greater amounts of oil as well which aids in cooling and maintaining viscosity.

@@AppalachianMountainRiders why can't you just dump all the oil on? The manual says how much.
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 4 года назад
You don’t want to overfill it or is going to dump oil into your air box and cause all sorts of problems. When these first came out dealers were way overfilling and that caused some problems for the buyers. You can never tell 100% how much oil is still left in the lines or laying in the bottom of the tank. I bet if you were to poll 20 owners most of the numbers would very as far as how much it actually took.
