In this video I start up the bike after the carbs have been cleaned. I diagnosed the start issue to be the relay in the solenoid which I replace in this video, and I show you my new kill switch and push button set-up.

I don't have a write up, but if you connect one side of your button to the blue and white wire and ground the other side you should be good to go.

i have a 86 xj700 and it won't go past 85mph. did the carb clean help increase your top speed?

I haven't taken the bike on a ride longer than just down the road since I started working on it but if you're having trouble going over 85 I'd suggest doing some routine maintenance to start and see how the bike reacts. I start with the easy stuff first and cross it off my list as I go. Change the spark plugs, make sure you have a good battery, make sure she has good compression, and clean the carbs.

Nicholas Estepa also the gear on your rear wheel has a lot to do with it

mason bailey this is a shaft driven motorcycle. If it were chain driven you'd be correct.

Nicholas Estepa there's a problem if it will not go past 85 I would start with cleaning the carbs

@@soakedinoil2246 any chance your friend continued the bobber build and possibly has a RU-vid channel too? I’d love to see a bobber build of an xj650 from start to finish
