Just picked up 2023 XSR900, its been so many years since I have ridden. First ride 62 miles lmao on highway with crosswind warning through valleys and farmlands. I thought I was going to fly away from the bike.
The XSR has always been a modern bike with a hint of retro vibe If you want to really go for retro style, go for Kawasaki Z900RS That thing is a beauty
@@ramk88 I know what you mean, I own a 2019 XSR900 that's had a Velocity-Moto body kit and I think it looks way nicer than this. Saying that I think Yamaha have done a worse styling update on the 09. Yamaha build some great engines and chassis but they've spoilt all the new MT range with the styling.
Seriously, what is so hideous about the seat? I love it and I think any passenger would like the extra cushion as well. That step up in the rear lets you feel firmly planted in place. In fact, the only thing I don't like is that the front of the seat doesn't extend all the way to the tank.
Picked up a new MT10, the end cans on Euro5 are purely asthetic, everything kills inside the collector box, you can put whatever can you want it won't change the sound as i discovered a grand later and an akra setup from Calsport
I'd take the black one since they didn't make a red one, but red wheels matching the red highlight would've really been sharp on the black bike. Nice walk around.
Great review of the details Chris. Might not be the bike for everyone out of the box but I’m sure it can be modified to resolve some of the minor aesthetic imperfections… It’s how it rides and your earlier test comments underline the bike’s on road appeal (except for seat comfort). Quality sausage!
I'm shopping for my next ride....Triumph T120/ Z900RS and cafe / Speed Twin / this one......I bought a 2018 T120 Black brand new and spent another 2-3K to get it just right for me. The main reason I'd buy this Yamaha XSR900, aside from the fact that it's an amazing bike and checking so many of the boxes, is that there aren't a whole lot of aftermarket "stuff" for it. I WOULD BUY THIS AND LEAVE IT ALONE!
I love the blue they have gone with. The seat looks like it was just kind of thrown on I would want something different. The bar end mirrors as standard I don't know how to feel about as I worry it would make it a pain to filter with.
Seat is stunning, same outline of one of the best looking Yamahas ever made, the TZR250 reverse cylinder, the 3-MA...design faults are an over long swingarm, number plate mount, exhaust and the h'lamp sticks too far out front...I'll has a 50mm shorter 3-MA styled one made for mine when I get mine, along with the white/red paint job and green number board stitched into the side of that seat...new to biking just don't get this bike, a classic!
Hope you put that dzus fastener thing back in. Although I'm not sure it'd make any difference, that whole rear end (seat, number plate hanger) looks like a Friday afternoon after thought. Colour's nice though.
love the bike but not the colour options. Fingers crossed better colours coming next year - hopefully Black with Gold forks or white or a silver. No rush can wait
Really is true what they say isn't it? There's no accounting for taste. Looking at the comments, I'm surprised it's so polarising tbh, I think it looks brilliant. I agree that the pillion seat looks a bit odd though, I preferred the gen 1 xsr's seat.
2021 models for $3000 below asking price. I'm waiting until I have the extra money to buy the new model. At 182cm, I will be looking to change the seat, any peg height adjusters, a full Akrapovik system and tune. Get that metal front guard chromed.
Like the colour. Dont like the seat and I'd kind of prefer the headlight to be slightly larger like the old dish jobs. The small but deep style it has sits too proud to my eye. Im sure it's a lovely thing to ride though.
Love the bike but not the seat. My mate on the other hand loves it.. and its the thing he likes the most...I wonder if a 3rd party will bring out a seat unit or cover?!
I think this is my favourite new bike. Period. The frame looks fantastic. Like a proper Street fighter! I loved the first generation but I think I like this more. I must be alone in thinking that seat looks pretty good lol. Having said that, I would like the actual part that you sit on to be thicker. If you look at bikes from the 70's & 80's they all had nice seats. Almost as if they knew people were going to ride them?!?! Cheers Sue 🍻
It reminds me of LC's and TZR 125s. It does nothing for me. Its just bland or maybe banal. I wish they could just bring back two strokes. These perfect bikes and the standards and reliability are really amazing are just sanitised horrible plastic euro 5 shit machines. I hate them. Chris you should try a few two strokes.
@@ronedee Google Langen. They're making two strokes today. Also certain motocross bikes. Anyway I was thinking of LC's, powervalve 350's and 500's. RG's. Aprilia RS's. NSR's. There's tons of old two-strokes available if you have the cash. I grew up on these bikes. I guess I miss them, which is not to say I would spend $10,000 on an RD 350 LC. I don't imagine it would be as good in reality as it is in my memory. My $3,800 Aprilia Shiver (2014 7000 miles) is obviously a much better bike. Still as I said in my initial comment most of the new bikes, I guess I'm talking about this category, just do nothing for me. So I wish I could pick up an old LC for a grand just for the buzz. Never going to happen.
@@jdahack7367 yeah, I had an RD350! It spent it's entire life on the rear wheel 😹 I had a kawie H2 & Z1. Surprised I'm still around to talk about it! Especially the H2. They called them "widow maker" here in the states. Yes, the good old days!
Horrible exhaust box which will quickly go rusty and look awful. Tail is badly designed. It's cheap and nasty. Could have been much better.. Why no gold wheels and forks on the black option..?
Can't believe you didn't mention how awful the passenger seat / tailsection looks. I think a second grader could have done better. Kind of looks cheap all around, if I'm to be completely honest.
SpecSavers... somewhere between 2 of the most beautiful motorcycles ever...Yamaha TZR250 3-MA & 3-3XV...you either see it,or you don't...stick to Triumphs!
I must admit, I really don't like the look of all the new Yamaha naked bikes. The previous generation was phenomenal, the old mt09, xsr900, mt07, xsr700, mt125. Now all the mt bikes look the same and they all look shit in my opinion. It's a shame, because the underlying technology is great, they are awesome bikes from a riding perspective, but I couldn't get one because of how awful they look to me (same with KTMs btw lol). But eh, the old xsr900 is still around second hand, so no problem just getting that.
I concur. The headlight on the new MTs is atrocious, no idea how that got greenlit by Yamaha. Apart from the seat, I do think the new XSR looks excellent though.
It's annoying that yamaha have such a good bike package but always fail to make it look good? It's like it's unfinished or cobbled together? Has top spec but looks SHIT! Subframe, seat and headlight let it down it's such a shame
Yamaha continues to miss the mark with the XSR900. It's nothing more than a MT-09 with a couple slapped on / poorly thought out bits and pieces. lol Like the previous years, NOTHING on this bike makes it "heritage" unless you tanked on a fifth of your favorite alcohol beverage and you're squinting extremely hard. lol Nice location to do a photo / vid shoot at though!
