You have a Yamaha Supertenere XTZ 750 or a TDM 850 and want more acceleration out of the "basement" with a little trick... watch the video. It is very simple!
I had to remove the carburetors on the Tenere anyway because I wanted to ultrasonically clean them. So I linked the opportunity, and at the same time removed the small sleves Thus, the motorcycle takes better gas, goes more agile to the point and in my opinion, also completely legal, since the performance is not changed. Only the response. But no guarantee for it!
You do it on your own risk!
I can only say that I have always changed it, when I bought another Tenere with as the first. And am so also driven many 10 thousand kilometers. Always without problems!
I will upload more videos of the Tenere. The videos are from 2018, but I upload them only now, because I found them not so interesting. I also did not film everything so exactly at that time. Today I already do that.
If you like it, feel free to subscribe for my channel, i would be pleased. Or describe your experience with this changes in the comments. I would be happy if you also like it.

I am trying to understand before I do this on my XTZ. So, if you remove the piece(s) in the tube, there will be more depression and the carburetors will open faster. But is it not the same as simply opening the throttle more and faster ?
@VolkerVolkach
@VolkerVolkach 2 года назад
Hi Gary, thank you for this answer..✔👍 Ok, i try to explain, what i think about this: In my opinion, the negative pressure is built up "faster", which causes the slide to open faster, which is attached to the diaphragm. I have since read that some Yamaha workshops always remove this. But whether this is so, I do not know. But, I have done so on all the XTZ I had, there were 3 over time, as well as on the TDM I also drove. I never had a problem with it, and am sure if you have the feel for it, you notice the difference clearly. I was until recently of the opinion that most XTZ drivers know this, and was surprised to find nothing about it on RU-vid. Therefore, the video. It is in any case no big deal and you can undo it at any time. Damage it can not in my opinion. And it also does not change the basic performance. Only the response behavior. I have noticed the strongest at Wheelis, I could drive with the XTZ partly 300-400 meters on the rear wheel, even switch. Up to about 80 km/h. First has nothing to do with it. But it just went easier on the rear wheel, partly in 2nd gear with clutch and matching speed. Hope that helps you to assess further. But the effect is not so great in the end..just noticeable! 😉

What he is trying to say, imagine a pipe, water pipe, airpipe, doesn't matter, when you have one and you push or pull air or liquid trough it, if theres a sleeve or a joint that narrows the pipe you get faster flow but lower pressure along that lane, so removing the sleeve you effectively remove that problem. Okey it is not that easy. Those are the ventilation hoses on the carb, so you are effectively opening the ventilation hoses more, you evacuating the gases better, bigger volume of the gasses at a time, allowing your engine to breathe better, hence the bike feels more responsive on lower gear, but that can lead to more oil leaks * if you are doing that tune the carb for slightly higher fuel and air intake to prevent it from choking on a cold start * but if you do that you will waste more fuel, however you will get some power and probably more oil leaks [ depending on how well made the carb is made ] Ultimately it is your choice. also a note: too much pressure handicaping the piston downwards movement

@@RongYaoElk Thanks. Actually the reason I am interested in this mod is because on my bike the throttle response between higher idle and idle is not smooth. To clarify, when I am at 10 mph in first gear with small throttle opening and want to reduce to say 5mph, the engine will jump and cut directly to idle with nothing in-between. And vice-versa. Makes low speed drive a bit jerky.

Hi Rob, that's really cool! ✔ - You have made a good choice. 👌The motors have a long service life. I remember a test from the 90s. I don't remember how many kilometers the Tenere had run, but there the cylinders and all wear parts were removed. I think after 80,000 km. There was no real wear recognizable. Even the valve clearance still fit very well. If your new XTZ already has many KM, or you are thinking about another engine. The one from the TDM fits very well, or the TRX type. That has often been rebuilt, gives reserve, and then yet a little more power as the standard. 😎 Maybe you find something more in this forum: tenere.de/index.php/board,34.0.html?PHPSESSID=0dd86df31638311c35ad30115e0f3052 Wish you always good trip with it! ✌✔

Mate, your English is excellent. 👍I had a Super Ten back on oz in 1996/7, and I am on a search to pick up another one here in Europe. I have just left Germany after 6 years and moving to Croatia, so maybe I will see you out on one of the TETs one of these days. Thanks for the tip, it was great!...and yeah, your English is better than my German. 😁

Unfortunalety i wait too long. I wrote him, after i watched it for 2-3 Weeks. I decided to buy it.. Just this day, it was sold.. hmm.. s..🤦‍♂ happens.😉

Your video is fine but really it's dangerous because dirt can enter the carburators and really does not improve performances. A lot of motorbikes have this installation.

Your English is fine. You were very easy to understand. What are these houses that you modified? Are they vacuum hoses?
@VolkerVolkach
@VolkerVolkach 2 года назад
no, i think they let the air come in, when there is negative pressure in the carburetor system. And when the tube is smaller, for reason of the sleeves, then the air comes more slow in the carburetor.. maybe ..

What is the benefit of these mod ?Better response on acceleration(more air-more power) or higher speed ?
@VolkerVolkach
@VolkerVolkach 2 года назад
hi, no higher speed, only better responce on acceleration. If you try it, i think you can feel it.. the engine just somehow hangs better on the gas.. it gets not more air, only the gas slide opens faster..

Where those sleeves are leading to? On my bike, i don't have the second part after the filter. Are they connected to the engine or just outside?
@VolkerVolkach
@VolkerVolkach 2 года назад
They are going just outside, i think betwenn the engine and the swingarm or the frame.. not sure..
@alanwilliams3677
@alanwilliams3677 11 месяцев назад
Hi Volker. Interesting vid. Wouldn't this alter the carb setting, causing engine to run weak? I've got a TRX which has the same filters. There is a slight lag or hesitation when pulling away from stationary. I wonder if this could be why? Spark plugs are blackened though, which suggests engine running rich.
@VolkerVolkach
@VolkerVolkach 11 месяцев назад
No, not to weak, i think exactly like it should.. 👍.. The reasons of this lag could be the narrow tube. Try it, i mean the TRX could be the same. Many people use this engine in the XTZ. The TDM have the same carburetors. And check the needle, maybe they are narrow in the middle after the use over the years. They move in the noodles, and this could be a reason too, maybe...
@alanwilliams3677
@alanwilliams3677 11 месяцев назад
Hi Volker. I checked and there are no "restrictors". Either they weren't fitted to the TRX because it was meant to be a sports bike, or someone had already removed them. The British bike magazine, Classic Bike, for this month (September 2023) has a feature on the TRX, and claim they run too rich, and that the standard main jet of 142.5 should be swapped for a 137.5 and the air screws should be "leaned off" by half a turn. They also advise experimenting with the needle position. I don't know about the TDM, but the TRX is a real labour of love. Thanks for replying.@@VolkerVolkach
@VolkerVolkach
@VolkerVolkach 11 месяцев назад
Ah, Ok, i unterstand, in the TDM and XTZ, i used the needle in the second position from top.. the "clip-ring" (right?) is in the second notch..@@alanwilliams3677

@VolkerVolkach

There is no noticeable difference, if at all, when driving many short distances with strong acceleration. The performance remains unchanged. Only the "response behavior" is better.✌

Ok, i think i change to english. Maybe you mean misfires in the engine, or backfires.. So I'm not a two-wheeler mechanic, even though I try to do a lot of things. 🤔 I think this may be due to wrong mixture... too lean maybe. Misfires and enriched mixture in the exhaust... I've also read about deposits on the piston causing "glow ignitions"... but in the end I don't know. Sorry...🤷‍♀️✌
