Oh my, what a sound! And great playing to boot. I can remember that I liked the sound-shaping idea of the Reface CP, but it didn't quite get there with its budget focus. This one however... very neat stuff.

If I remember correctly, it's just one of the pads, not a choir patch, but with a phaser and a ring modulator on it so it sounds kind of like a choir. The FX settings are not part of the preset.

Have Yamaha said anything about voice expansions for this keyboard? Seems like a great playable instrument, but a little sparse on the sounds themselves. No choirs, for example. Maybe an FM editor for making your own FM sounds?

I do find it interesting that they put an actual FM engine in there with no way to access anything other than presets

it's too bad the synthesizer section is so limiting, otherwise this would be the perfect nord stage replacement.

Yamaha please listen to this guy. Giving us the option to use the organ controllers for VA synth (EG, LFO, oscilators, whatever) would make this the ultimate synth keyboard.

Opinion: it tries to cover organ and synth and in doing so the synth is very limited. Very light keyboard and I fear that a screaming organ run will set it off the stand flying towards the drummer in a live setting.

Piano players should stop harassing real organ players with their "I wish it had weighted action". This is organ focused and if you don't like waterfall action, stick to your pianos. You have just spoiled YC 73 with piano keys that completely kill organ action. Yes, I'm so pissed off.

If it has piano sounds it needs 73 keys at least! Why would a piano player use 61 keys. A real organ has two manuals and then it's ok to have only 49 keys per manual, because you can transpose them individually. A machine that's not a synth with 61 keys is just stupid. I would prefer a module with no keys instead. Would have loved to buy this, but I will stick with my Roland VR-730.

manufactures all make small keyboards, lots of synths only have 3 or 4 octaves, what really frustrates me So I feel your pain

We aren't all purists. We make compromises when we buy a gigging instrument. Nobody wants to haul around an electric piano with 88 keys, a double manual organ instrument, a separate synth, etc. A reasonably compact instrument with lots of capabilities is vastly more suited for us. I have been using a Juno DS61 live for a couple years now and have loved it. This will make a great successor.

His remark "a machine thats not a synth with 61 keys is stupid" is misleading in fm mode the YC 61 drawbars can be used for the on-board 8 operator fm synthesizer. The YC series of organs dates back to the 60s. Its not marketed as a stage piano like the CP series. Its marketed as an organ stage keyboard.

They don't feel flimsy. Really, nothing about this keyboard feels flimsy.
