I love how it starts out with minimal work done to it…plot twist the whole motor has been gone through
@DirtBikeTest

Most would think we're crazy for going that long on the motor, so considering the amount of hard hours on it, it is pretty minimal..

@@jamesoso259 It is, you must be new. Plenty of bikes don't make it to 50hrs without a rebuild.

200 hours of old man trail riding on mine. I’ve changed the piston and timing chain as well as a couple front wheel bearings. Great all around do anything bike

@@AdamJawhary My 2015 has 80 hours on the stock engine and still runs great. Used mostly for trail riding. As long as you keep your air filter clean and change the oil regularly, it seems like these bikes will run for a long time. I'm thinking of doing a top end at 120 hours.

@@ridgeridermoto Thank you so much for responding, for some reason All these bike blowup videos are scaring me into thinking I'll blow my bike up at 30 hours, Have you done anything with the timing chain yet?
@ridgeridermoto
@ridgeridermoto 8 месяцев назад
@@AdamJawhary I think it entirely depends on how you ride and how much maintenance you do. If you run it pinned at the track all the time it won't last nearly as long as if you trail ride. Also if you extend your service intervals it won't last as long either. I once destroyed a top end in 40 hours on my KTM because I forgot to clean the air filter for several rides. Now I clean the air filter every ride and do oil every 6 to 8 hours. Personally I have not done anything to the cam chain. The engine is completely stock at 80 hours. The bike was very clean when I bought it so it hasn't been abused, which I think is the difference between a top end lasting 30 hours and lasting 150 hours. My point is that regular and frequent service is critical for these high performance engines. As long as you're not racing your top end should last a while. When you think it's time, put in a new piston and cam chain and check valves. Like OP said, he has 200 plus hours on his engine with only one top-end rebuild. Just take good care of it and it'll take care of you

Thank you for doing this kind of long term review, its pretty cool to see. Its frustrating to read/watch the shootouts from the big media co. and they spend 90% of the time talking about the power of the motor. or some characteristic applicable to a pro level rider. I enjoy the weekend warrior more practical perspective in the videos. I'm curious how the FX engine differs from F version as far as reliability goes. All other variables aside, is there a particular trait/characteristic of the FX engine, that makes is more likely to be more reliable than the YZ250F engine? Thanks!
@DirtBikeTest
@DirtBikeTest Год назад
Other than it doesn't rev quite as quick and produces its power slightly lower in the RPM range, there isn't much to make it any more reliable than the F

Thanks for the update! I'm closing in at 100 hours on my 2020 WR250F. Never raced or redlined, just lugging through the trails going at a medium pace. Air filter is cleaned every 2 rides and oil + oil filter every 15 hrs. Should I do a new piston at the 200hr mark?
@DirtBikeTest
@DirtBikeTest Год назад
It certainlty wouldn't hurt to pull the top end apart with that many hours
@hannesdobbelaere

so you went from 80h upto 140h (60h in total) with 1 piston, and that with hard racing?

It's a 250F being raced, according to Yamaha it's supposed to be rebuilt every 12.5 hours.

Why do you run a 19” rear instead of 18”. Great video.
@DirtBikeTest
@DirtBikeTest Год назад
We run mousse's so the extra flat protection of the 18in isn't as critical, and at the time of this video, we were racing the bike on MX type terrain so the 19 made more sense
