Join Brett Hite in this latest video as he introduces you to the Yamamoto Yamatanuki, a bass-catching heavyweight that's been quietly popular in Japan for a few years. This super dense, 5/8th ounce plastic bait can cast far, sinks rapidly, and is highly effective in triggering bass in various situations.

Hite demonstrates various techniques for fishing with the Yamatanuki, particularly around isolated cover and structure. Its hefty weight allows it to sink to depths of up to 30 feet yet still be worked back to the boat like a jig. Whether casting into visual targets or fishing it deep back to the boat, the Yamatanuki can efficiently cover water faster than traditional options like the Yamamoto Senko and other stick baits.
Interestingly, the Yamatanuki doesn't just fall straight down; it oscillates side-to-side, offering a unique action that attracts more fish. The design allows anglers to cast further and be productive even on windy days - a challenge when using lighter soft baits.
Unique in its shape and profile, the Yamatanuki has a bulbous head that slims down to its tail, mimicking the look of bluegill, brim, or perch. This design attracts bigger bass, possibly due to its larger profile than the typical weightless worm.
Hite shares his equipment recommendations, favoring the same rod, reel, line, and hook setup he uses for his Senko. He emphasizes the importance of the gear ratio and using a hybrid EWG hook for optimal effectiveness.
In summary, if you're looking for an efficient, versatile bait that can trigger big bites, the Yamamoto Yamatanuki is worth a shot. And be sure to check out our Yamamoto Yamatanuki Review (www.wired2fish... learn more specifics about this intriguing soft bait.

It works on the CA Delta & we’ve had a tough bite this spring/summer. I also peg a punch skirt on top. It’s like a heavy hula grub. I was skeptical at first but have been impressed. Good luck to all 👍🏻

Fat grub with a tail. Or if you look at it from the right angle it looks like a tadpole on steroids. I’d give it a try. It’s the simple baits that fish seem to like.

Been using this style of bait (turd) for years, I moved to North America in 2019 and found no one else using this technique, finally this stuff is catching on lollllll. Turd baits are super versatile as a weightless bait

I see it as a heavy Fat Ika with a solid tail. That's what draws me to it. If you know the effectiveness of the Fat Ika, you'd understand my perspective. I'm excited about this one.

You'd think a pro would know not to hold a bass like that. You can really damage their jaw.

Why heavy line? Just to help it get down faster?

@@jbsvideos5589I found some last week and was saddened by how tiny they are and how little they weigh. Feels more like 1/8. Ned rig is about the best use I’ve found for them

@@GoogleUser-fq1qq Yeah the 2.5" is smaller than I expected. For the fishing I do and the fish a 2.5" is on small side and the 3.5" is on the big side. They need to come out with a 3" that is in the middle size and weight wise.

Why wouldn't you use either braid, or mono for the slower sink rate???? Looks like a bluegill, or perch imitator. . Not a rocket scientist, just a ole dumb bass fishermen. But makes sense to me????
