I know at one point Tinybuild (Developers of Hello Neighbor) helped him out when things were getting a little rough, but that probably means he kicked them to the curb too?
Oh yeah he partnered with them at some point, they helped him financially and to also port Yandere Simulator from the old version of Unity that he was using to the newer one and that means they even fixed the code for him back then. But considering how the code is messy again and he's Patreon dependent only, yeah it's safe to say that they stopped working together. @@TheSoulGage

I remember watching the stream from the admin of a certain New Zealand drama forum who ended up having to call the parents of an obsessed fan who was going crazy defending YandereDev on the forum. YanDev’s fan base is young and obsessive, which make the situation even more disturbing. It also means that there’s a 0% chance anyone else picks up the game because the rabid fan base will devour them like they did other competing games. Really hope this isn’t an entrapment situation either. There’s a reason EDP walks free, and it’ll just give YanDev plausible deniability going forward.

I feel like Yandev's entire purpose is to be the exact opposite of a good indie game dev. Like take the pull stay guy, exact opposite. Only interacts with his audience as it relates to the game, but stays extremely transparent about his life and mistakes as well as dev progress. Prioritizes the essentials and only asked for money when he had a basically complete game but felt it wasn't finished anyway. Takes advice from his critics, improves and makes progress despite never having done game dev before. Doesn't get intimate (sexually or in a friends way) with any of his fans yet is incredibly friendly to all of them. Expresses his appreciation for his fans often.

I always hate this tactic of offloading of agency (and thusly, responsibility) by using the mental health card, outside of a few disorders that cause psychosis/delusions, mental illnesses don’t involuntary disable a person’s morality. He was given an out by collaborating with TinyBuild but was so blinded by his own mediocre coding that he wouldn't give the company enough room to breathe. A small modicum of props for the guy for owning up to it and not claiming to go try a girl's cupcakes, but for a guy with a massive ego he shouldn't have been looking for affection from a child. If he was so concerned with his mental health he should have just ended production, shipped out what he had and went outside to touch grass. If games like Garden of Ban Ban and Poppy Playtime are any indication, he wouldn't be the only one to ship out his game in segments if he wished to further development afterwards.

Don't let yanderedev convince you that 9 years is a reasonable amount of time to spend on this game. This is 100% something that a small team of 3-4 competent developers and artists could make in under 6 months for less than $50k
50k is not enough. 4 devs say 2.5k per month each. including your countries taxes on wages for companies since a wage of 2.5k here would mean a total cost of 5k here for the company. So wages alone would result in about 120k for 6 months. Then you got costs for revenue taxes and things like assets and equipment. Most smaller companies don't have a dedicated sound guy so they outsource that. Anyway it's always more expensive than you think it is. Ofcourse a few devs doing it in their freetime without expecting a proper wage can surely do it. Ps. 2.5k is actually not a livable wage in a lot of places in america i think. Would only be a yearly wage of 30k.
I mean if he was making something akin to a triple a title literally by himself with no money and no other people helping him (like voice acting), then sure I'd say 9 years is closer to a reasonable amount of time, but a game like this? 3 - 5 years at most solely by himself would be a more reasonable amount of time, especially if he had actually rolled with the MAJOR improvements TinyBuild tried to help him implement (such as tidying up all of his code and actually making the game run efficiently.) @@mayravixx25 9 years is still not reasonable even at that point. It wouldn't even be possible, even if YanDev was a competent dev. Triple A games are more than just looks. The budget and scale of development is taken into consideration as well.
6 months and 50k? With only 3-4 devs? I can tell you have no game dev experience, so here's something more feasible from a real dev. Aside from beta-testers, lets say you have a dev team of 4 people. And lets say we discount the weeks or months that it will take for the 4 people to discuss, roadmap, and fully plan every aspect of the game, from form, function, direction, gameplay, features, etc. So we start from Ground 0 with nothing but plans, a dream, and whatever software they plan on using. It will still take at LEAST a year for the game to come anywhere near the Beta stage, and this is if all 4 devs are working on the game full-time with no long holidays in between. A lot of people don't seem to understand that in game development, the feedback loop usually takes a long time. Beta testers test every stage of development, report bugs and issues which need to be addressed, rinse and repeat. This shit alone would take a few days, sometimes over a week depending on whether the testers are competent or free. There is also no such thing as a bug-free game. There is always going to some wrinkles that pop up that need fixing, no matter how good the devs are, and that shit will extend the deadline again. And 50k $? Spilt that 4 ways and its less 12,500 $ per person + taxes. Nobody is going to want to work full-time for that little. 150k for 4 people would make more sense. Anything less and their annual salary would be a joke.

I was 12 when I started following this game, now I’m 21, and honestly it sickens me to think that I, as a minor, followed this creep and excused all the weird behavior he had. I was in his streams, I exchanged emails with him, I played the game and watched RU-vidrs play it and followed his blog posts. As I got older I of course stopped most of that, but I still watched other RU-vidrs play it from time to time, for the nostalgia. Still, it gives me a really sick feeling to think about.
I'm 21 now too and I remember specifically the drama he had with twitch when I was in middle school twitch removed yandere Sim for having panty shots. One thing that bothers me about this whole YanDev situation is that it took until this point for people to not want to support him anymore. Over the years he has shown time and time again that he is an absolute asshole man child, constantly having insane outbursts lashing out at fans, can't handle any level of criticism or advice, blaming his fans for being the reason he can't make progress on the game, telling people to *self delete* and then turning around and crying about his mental health, and so on, but he still gets tons of support. Even after this stuff has come out, he still has people supporting him which is insane.
The whole "Moving Forward" blog post literally reads like he went out of his way to find a very wordy way to say "I'm going to jail" without actually saying "I'm going to jail"...

From what it seems, almost all his supporters pulled from the project and wanted their assets removed from it, the ones that remained are probably children and teenagers who either aren't aware of this situation or are still believing they'll get to play a finishes game
The concept of this game is freaking cool! But it was executed poorly and definitely will never be finished. It would’ve been cool if it did though. If YanDev was a normal ass person who let his volunteers give him a better goddamn script/code or whatever it’s called, then the game would run fine. And would’ve gotten this game completed a LONG TIME ago and would’ve been a HUGE success! And give the characters more age appropriate outfits n stuff.
He should have Scott Cawthon as an example of what a good indie game developer is. Both focuses on his games, his family and he is actually a good person.
I think there were some controversies surrounding some of his actions, but I can't quite recall what they were. I think he ended up finally retiring active game development sometime around Security Breach.

"Yandere Simulator-like games are cursed" I think there's a video out there I watched that already talked about it. From what I've seen, there may be a plausible reason behind the so-called curse. Most of the game developers who make these sort of games lean towards edgy teenagers who fantasize about murder, torture and abduction on a school setting. Barely any of them, if at all, have professional experience so team coordination and project management are almost non-existent. Best I could praise them for would be them having the passion to learn game development at a young age and making their own games (rather, proof of concepts at best). I could be very wrong about this, but that's my speculation. YanSim and similar games could serve as a cautionary tale to aspiring indie developers on what NOT to do when creating a game.
