This is great. Just bought a boat with a rebuilt Yanmar 2GM20 that was converted from raw water to freshwater cooling, and this really helps me understand my engine better. Thanks!
If you have a hand cranking handle it is worth priming the system manually first by turning the engine over by hand. The priming lever on the fuel lift pump usually only pushes the fuel as far as the filter on the top of the engine. First make sure the engine is decompressed. Next loosen the two banjo bolts on top of both injectors and turn the engine over by hand until you see diesel weep from the top of the injectors. Nip up the banjo bolts again and 're-compress' the engine by pushing both levers towards the alternator end of the engine. Adjust the throttle to about 50% and turn the engine over on the starter motor. It should start within a few seconds but if not, repeat the bleeding procedure to remove any further air. Good luck!
