This video describes the freshwater cooling circuit of the Yanmar HM, QM, GM (and possibly other variants) marine diesel engines. I made the video in particular for a fellow engine owner who is considering installing the freshwater thermostat block and water pump components on his originally raw water cooled engine.

Josh, Thank you so much for posting this video. My boat doesn't have the thermostat housing on the end of the cam. The heat exchanger for my boat is located right above the transmission (reverse mounting due to V-Drive). So, to make this change, I would need to buy a Yanmar Fresh Water Thermostat housing and the circ pump. My circ pump is run off a pulley down in the usual space taken by the raw water pump. I can't even see that pump without crawling into the lazarette and reaching around the port side. It sits below the fuel filter and high pressure pump, totally out of reach from the quarter berth. Tracing how the hoses route from this pump, around the exhaust manifold and up to the Sendure exchanger is a bit daunting. I'll be heading to the boat over the next day or say and try to get you some photos.

Josh Muckley The system has two pumps. Both are belt driven. I appreciate the suggestions to convert to Yanmar parts but since this Sendure system was stock on the boat, I’ll check the current circulation pump and replace the impeller and move on to my next project. I suspect that a raw water pump failure last season may also have done in the circulation pump impeller due to excessive coolant heating.

So apparently there's an impeller in the salt water pump and also in the fresh water pump ? Could you do me a favor and look at this engine, and help me identify it ? I'm trying to help a lady on this boat figure out where her cooler is and how to get it open to remove impeller parts in the fresh water section. She may have bad impellers in the salt water pump and fresh water pump. But probably just one of them, salt water. Perhaps impeller pump parts do not get stuck anywhere in the salt water side ? So, this is the engine I'm trying to identify and help her with.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sks222zjWpA.htmlm59s And this is the video where she just barely talks about her problem. Husband hasn't gotten there yet. She's trying to do her best. I link you to the end of the video where she barely shows an impeller, which will be part of her next video, she hasn't done it yet or the repair. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--DdPHNN6kgE.htmlm51s

Humm, that's a much quicker way to get those pieces out. Yes, I've seen people take the engines apart quite often. And, yes, I've seen them put the impeller parts together very carefully to insure that they are all there. But, most are taking the parts off the cooler up above and finding the pieces in there. So, this is much better. Currently , I'm a couch sailor, that is, not in the water, but preparing for what I think would be a fun life especially if I can get to warmer water. I live near the far northern California pacific. I'm gathering all these videos so I can be ready, and there are an absolute ton of Yanmars out there. Thanks very much for coming back with this unique quick way to get the pieces out.
