There's already an endless number of identical comments about it. I am speaking about the Gemera engine in the video at 4:18 and I have already clearly explained why the Yaris G16E-GTS is CURRENTLY the world's most powerful production inline three cylinder engine. But even once the Gemera starts being delivered to customers, only 300 will be made, so calling the Gemera and the TFG "production" is a bit of a stretch.
@@spiritdancer1699 There have been inline 3 engines with no camshafts, take for instance the sleeve valve system. It's rudementary but it's still an inline 3
Done 2k in my GR now ...and nothing but praise for it.... Always leaves a smile on my face....apart from always having to turn off lane assist and stop/start.... It feels strong , it feels special...ive not had this feeling quite like this in any other car
Yer Me Too buddy,Thats the 1st car/engine i thought about WITHOUT WATCHING THE VIDEO. I still think it should have come with 1 more piston just for tits and giggles.
"Untouched by the filthy hands of non-Scotty Kilmer approved brands" I literally laughed so hard I choked! This car looks amazing. Another outstanding video, D4A! Love your content. Thank you so much for what you do and Merry Christmas from California!!
As it is today, there's no one like you, out there. Casual, humorist in places, but yet very good informed and the most difficult thing to do, to say all this, in a way so usual people can understand. As I said, there's no one like you! 👍😎
In my opinion, the cast iron liners are thin like that to increase heat transfer to the aluminium and the coolant. Since steel has a much lower heat transfer capacity than aluminum, the thinner the better.
Speaking of modified GR Yaris, the one modified by HKS already produces 375hp (475hp with Nitrous) with stock internals (they do change some parts like ECU, intercooler, etc). The next modification will be after they check the internals itself and see what's happening in it.
Yeah and in Australia for like 2 years or so now with the GR yarris. And a Workshop here in Melbourne using basically a stock engine (onlly mechanical update being new valve springs), Using a hub dyno managed to squeeze out 473 hp at the wheels, and this is currently the most powerful GR Yaris on the planet.
You've had to actually dig deep and work to find the content for this video, so it makes it awesome and greatly appreciated. I was one of the first to realise the creation of this car what seems years ago now and being very late to the table to actually buying one brand new, I can't wait to get it although its probably someone's washing machine, currently somewhere in China about to brake down and to be turned into one of these....I cannot wait for its birth and delivery....bring on May '22
I finally found the channel that succeeded in a clear and precise way to refine my comprehention of one of my passion that is the internal combustion engine, thank you.
I got so excited when I saw this in my feed. Awesome content as always! I'm growing to appreciate this channel more and more with each video, as I've started binging the iconic engines series. I can't wait to see you make an iconic engines episode on this G16E some day!
Now that's the reason why those miserable Sunday evenings become a lot better less miserable. Thank you sir for your hard work! Really appreciated from a Greek fan of yours. Love the new GR Yaris although I won't be able too buy it and love your content every time. Especially this one!
I'm not a Toyota guy but I really appreciate and respect what Toyota did with this engine. There's lot of really cool technology built in as well as some good common sense stuff like dual injection that keeps the engine form clogging with carbon. It looks like another classic reliable Toyota engine to me.
IDK why, but the part where you crapped on the Koenigsegg welds was hilarious to me. Awesome overview and a ton of really cool features in this engine for sure. As usual, I learned a few new things from this video. Great work! Won't lie, pretty upset we aren't getting this in the USA.
I don't know man, the car will cost more than multiple pieces of good real estate, and I follow guys on Instagram that are DIYers and do nicer welds. Definitely not hating on the car, it's innovative and I'm sure it's out of this world, but I couldn't help noticing that. I think the US might be getting a new Corolla with most of the Yaris features.
@@d4a Haha I definitely agree. If I had to guess I would say the welder expected the powder coater to grind that down before painting and make it smooth and tidy, but who knows. 😂
I lost count of the combustion engineering clarifications you provided me by the time you arrived at "why a mechanical water pump was better than electric". We were in hot debate about the (level or tilted) angle of the carburetors & valves on our motorcycle engines when I was 15 years old (I'm 72 now). It's all about swirl & flame-path, folks. Bloody great video Sir.
I love how you're such a casual weeb in this video. The realistic "Impossiboru!" rage face, Nyan Cat, and Rei Ayanami. Nice impression of the Toyota fanboys being salty over how the Supra and the 86 are BMW and Subaru, respectively. Akio must've known those cars would be impossible to have without outside help. It's business, and they need to make money. And casual mention of Scotty Kilmer. And very informative video, as always. We in America may not get the GR Yaris, but that doesn't make Toyota fans excited.
I've always been a casual weeb 🤣 I really like a good manga or anime, but my relationship with it has always been very atypical. I grew up watching all sorts of animes, but never had any friends that shared the interest, as it didn't really catch on yet, but still that never bothered me. So I also never joined any groups, forums, never read or watched reviews or anime commentary, never collected merch, I rapidly clicked away the first time I saw actual cosplay (I respect the crafts and effort) etc. I don't get most of the memes either. I was like a kid in an endless library without anyone else around. I watched and read randomly whatever I liked. I like to think this somehow made my relationship with anime and manga very intimate and privileged. It was and still is just a really nice past time, unburdened by all the social and cultural implications.
Just want to give you a massive THANK YOU for making this video. My GR is currently on the slow boat from the promised land and I am holding my breath. Thanks for sharing all the facts you have found and going into such well worded detail. More than ever I appreciate all that Toyota has done for us in this car. Your video is a refreshing change from the usual cringe that is plastered all over this platform and I salute you for your authenticity to the petrol head culture. Thanks mate, you are a legend!
I drive a Subaru Impreza hatchback, and some times it's hard to find my car in a crowded parking lot as it is in the shadow of a big truck.... I want the GR Yaris so bad, but will it make it to North American shores I wander ?
im still driving my 1990 toyota corolla gts with the 4age twice a week to work, the other days i switch up with 06 accord 5speed and the 02 toyota highlander.
A lot of people in Wyoming feel the need to own massive trucks and suv's as well. My 1980 Toyota Tercel gets me pretty much every where I want to go including up in the Bighorn Mountains. People really under estimate what smaller cars are capable of. It does better in the snow with snow tires on than my suburban did with all terrain tires and four wheel drive. It also gets about 5 times better gas mileage than my suburban did and is a lot more fun to drive.
Happy new year, nice explanation for the little details especially for me as new car guy try learning something new, keep it up! Your content not just about reading the brochure. Cheer's.
wanted to look into the design and engineering of this engine but the wiki page was lacking, checked out some launch info but THIS is what's needed!!! thanks D4A
Man, what a little beast, bet it feels like an absolute rocket ship! Thanks for this video man, I love the fact that I can come here and it's more than just power figures and 0-100 times etc. I love the detail you go into with the engineering, and why car manufacturers do what they do, as well as all the comparisons of technology. Awesome video as always, seems like you really went looking for all this info. Much appreciated mate! Stay safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Great video! Loads of info I didn’t know. I currently have a Mitsubishi Evo IX with the glorious 4G63 but have just ordered a GR Yaris with this engine!
You can always go for a geo metro with the inline 3 engine and performance mod the heck out of it to reach ridiculous amounts of power with a few tricks to create a masterpiece of an economy car sleeper.
Love the ending with Arigato Mr Akio Toyoda! Thank you Mr. Toyoda to bring us such exciting car! We need a lower price with only front wheel drive. Lets revive the toyota starlet
@@1uzfe Well you can place half the blame on the regulators from the past as well. If it weren't made on purpose to be so expensive to get a foreign made car into the states, we might see more cars like this and some of the other neat cars we can't get here. Due to the regulations, it doesn't make sense to have to spend hundreds of thousands to a regulatory body just to bring a model here and only sell a few thousand. If it weren't so, it would be profitable, and we'd be able to buy a Yaris GR.
@@MoistGrundle I agree but ultimately restrictions on foreign car import is there to provide domestic companies a level playing field in terms of competition but they’re simply not as competent and competitive as European and Asian companies 🤦♂️ like yeah we don’t get the Toyota gr but why isn’t there an American equivalent? Even when there used to be one (ford focus off the top of my head) the sales were piss poor because we the consumers end up buying import cross overs anyway
@@1uzfe Solid point, honestly. One could also say the domestic brands choose not to make those cars out of selfish priorities. The other models sold, just not as well, so fuck it, focus solely on the models that make us billions. Of course, it makes some sense from a business stand point, but it only ever seems to be American car companies that take such a cut and run approach to car sales figures. "This model made us $250 million two years ago, and now it only makes us $200 million. Shut down the plant."
@@MoistGrundle sadly, it has more to do (than anything else) with the marketing of SUV and CUV models - they're "safer" on our shitty roads that no one can drive on... Gimme a quick accelerating car that hugs the road any day over a lumbering monstrosity of a SUV.
@@d4a Naw...... I doubt Scotty would see it as a bad thing. Scotty probably has (tons of) money to burn these days. I doubt he would bother going after anybody, unless they were being mean. I am a bit like Scotty. Been driving only Toyota since the early 90's. Definitely saved a lot of money by making that decision long a go.
I quit watching Scotty after the 3rd one I watched where the actual subject matter had nothing to do with what the title of the video led to believe it was.
Great content, found your channel searching all Yaris GR4, watched on Tele and subscribed today.👍 Picked my car up Sunday, Scarlet Flare with Circuit pack. Still running in , but the car just works, I won't be adding any mods if I'm honest, it's so capable out of the box. Just to add dropped my deposit early March before pre orders in UK, long wait but well worth it.
Loved this video! I love your casually explained deep dives. Honestly some of the best technical info I've seen on RU-vid! You've earned my subscribe on the second video I've watched. Excited to watch more!!! Also...im an American who desperately wants this engine lol
This engine is packed with proven technology and has quality components such as the sodium exhaust valves and a ball-bearing turbo. If Toyota used this program to bridge into a new inline 6 family of engines, that would be amazing.
Cheers for the video and the all the work behind. I really enjoy watching, and going back sometimes in the explanation for fully understand. I was even before yours explanations be able to figure out how it's work and the choices made, that was exciting and enthralling during all the video. You may succeed to make the comprehensiv this high- technological engine. It was very pleasant to watch and pedagogic I have found. Good continuation from Elsass in France ;)!
Wow, I'm super impressed with your explanations and learned everything I hoped to about this engine. Thanks so much for putting it together! Subscribed!
Eyes should be kept on HKS who currently are pushing their Yaris to 450+ hp on stock internals. With just bolt ons like a larger turbo, exhaust, and inter cooler (probably a couple more) they have been able to push out 375hp at 40psi. This 3 cyl is really quite something else.
Yeh and a Workshop in Australia with basically a stock engine (onlly mechanical update being new valve springs), on a hub dyno managed to squeeze out 473 hp *at the wheels* and is currently the most powerful GR Yaris on the planet…. HMM and all those times ypu all bagged us aussies & called us crazy, even would say australianwas a real life mad max film. WELL WELL WELL.. and now with all that experience we got making those crazy hp contraptions on that set, NOW IT US US WHO IS LAUGHING MY DOGS OF POOR OUTPUT POWER
@@4BillC Not any car. Some cars - especially Toyotas - are low-maintenance and low maintenance costs. But this is a special, low production volume car with lots of specialized parts.
@@d4a OMG YOU REPLIED! love your videos man! Can you please do an Iconic Engines video on the 1JZ? Because everyone always does videos on the 2JZ and the 1JZ is my favorite Engine (especially in the sound & high RPM department)
The content of your Chanel is superb, I struggle a little with your over exaggerated theatrical presentation but will get used to it hopefully . Keep it up 👍
a 3.2L I6 with 530hp ish, now that sounds alot like fun to me, but maybe a bit to much power? think the direction of making the cars lighter is more ideal than doing the MURICA throw more hp into it approach
Toyota is working with mazda on an inline 6 so eh maybe a supra with toyota engine in the near future just maybe. Also they probably may use a new platform like atking one from lexus and modifying it like a yaris gr who knows 🤣
@@Stale_Mahoney that's not MURICA; that's the point of the Supra, a sports car. Or the GTR. Or any number of non- American cars. The point was Toyota using their own engine.
Congratulations. You've rendered all my Mechanical Engineering professors useless. I could've gotten my qualification just by watching your videos. Great work.
MAD respect for you man, I see serious high quality content in every single video you upload Now, if ONLY you could cover motorcycle engines too...that shit would be fucking awesome
@@matthewyang2792 exactly, that and i think this seems to be a good modern engine worth attempting to swap into something like a mrs, or even a celica gt4.
@@bushmaster4481 What do you mean by buzzed, mate? I'm not familiar with the term. Well it's a sports engine a low displacement, a turbo, and a lot of HP/cylinder. I'm expecting significant use of the rev range and spirited driving. I guess we'll find out how it holds up over the next few years. I'm hoping it'll be good though. I'm so sad most car manufacturers don't make proper sports pedigree engines any more.
Awesome video! I know it's a completely different vehicle/application, but SeaDoo does have a 1.5 liter and now 1.6 liter inline 3, with 300 HP. Obviously doesn't take away from the car, but it's impressive what can be gotten from these small motors.
The 1.9 tdi is the ony tdi that last longer than a average gasoline engine from other brands, the original 1.9 was make by peugeot in 1980s and was sed by close to all brands or bought by and vw put a 1.4 l turbo on it and it makes maximum 110hp on the normal turbo and 130hp on the special edition tubo one thats the same turbo but that resists to more power. The engine na had 50hp in peugeot and 60 hp in vw and dacia
