I'm 75 and my husband used to contribute to my yarn hoard before he passed from cancer. One day i showed him one of your videos before we went to KC for one of his surgeries and he said he would like to run into you in Joann's or Michael's when he took me yarn shopping because he loved your yarn room.
@@MJay77-u9z Hi Melani, maybe you should sent any way of a message to her, because she showed on the entrance of the elevator , all kinds of business. With one search people would know her address right away 😔 I know there is a lot of good people in this world, but there a lot of bad people too.. we try to trust everyone , but we just cant. If she can remove just that part on the video, it would be much better for her and her family 🌹🌹
I have decided ,at 65 ,i will never be able to use all the yarn i have (not half as much as you. lol) in my life time so i am blessing someone else with a lot of my stash.
I feel less like a yarn hoarder when I watch your videos, thank you! I too have a supportive husband who allows me to be me as long as I’m happy. Yarn is one of the many things that makes me happy. Also, my family crochets/knits - daughter, son, husband and myself. So it works.
This is the video I really needed right now. I just moved and went from a huge craft room to a craft room about 40% smaller. I have been sitting here for weeks feeling bad for myself. No more, you just reminded me that it is all in the attitude. I am newly motivated. Thank you.
Its so nice to have a husband that supports you .i have an old camper i have my yarn in..its in big totes .but i have to hide it all from my hubs .i feel bad sometimes but you know im 72 and waited all my life to be able to do my hobby. Your studio is absolutely beautiful
Oh my goodness, your husband was wonderfully supportive. I really enjoyed watching the two of you interact with each other. I would find that amount of yarn completely overwhelming, but I don't judge what makes you happy! (And I don't believe in "should")
I would use part of the smaller room as your workspace to test and create. Then you could add a row of back to back shelves/cubes to hold more yarn in the larger room.
I cant imagine how overwhelming it would be moving your yarn! Moving forces you to face the "stuffness" of stuff. Stuff becomes background noise, even if you organize and care for it, so having to move it makes you face just how much you have. It's a weird experience every time. And the longer you go without moving, the more distant you become and its so easy for stuff to build up over time without you even realizing. This isnt judgmental, i have just moved a lot and had to help family clear out house several times too. I cant imagine having to move my stuff after so long and with work focused around yarn. Like wow! I hope you take time to care for yourself and love yourself.
"I say I don't have enough yarn, because I love yarn. " You are my hero! I feel exactly the same way and I make no apologies for not one single Skein. ❤
Wow! That is a lot of inventory to manage but I get the sense that you totally enjoy the process and being surrounded by your yarn. It is so interesting how we are all so different. I would be totally stressed out if I had that much yarn. I have some designated space in a closet and a wardrobe. Once that is filled with yarn I know I have to use some up and get the items donated to charity. For me I would resent having to spend that much time managing my stash instead of creating with it. That is really nice that you have a yarn studio now. Your husband is so lovely and supportive of your yarn passion. All the best.
You have a wonderful supportive husband. Mine passed away 13 years now and I have 10 children. I love yarn too. I crochet mainly baby clothes and blankets. i love the blanket you had on the chair! the mosaic one. You have to show us how to make it. Your new house looks lovely. Enjoy. I have a big house which takes time to clean so I look forward to downsizing when a few more of my kids get married. I will be downsizing to a one storey not two!
WOW! If only. I can't keep even a tenth of this yarn in my humble little home. I make beanies for the homeless and the local NICU's. God bless y'all 🙏💙
Each of those bags can be give-always! It’s already bagged up and ready to ship! Awesome! Keep that man! He is a keeper! How much money do you figure you’ve spent? It looks like your retirement is tied up in yarn and everything that is yarn-related! You could spend the next year E-baying it for half what you brought it for. It’s too much! I am enjoying the justification for keeping it. It is a bit over the top. Good luck!
It wouldn’t be so bad if you lived in the same building! I have a storage unit down the hall from my apartment that I keep some of my treasures in, when I want them I just go to the storage unit and get them, to me it feels like walking down the hall at my old place to get there.
You should make a big chunky rug to go on the floor! Your husband is so supportive it is very sweet! But he’s right you should get rid of a bit. Maybe take yarn you only have small quantities of (single skein left over, etc) and give those away.
You might ask Sam at Manfa Makes. She has turned organizing yarn stashes to make sense including organizing patterns, books, magazines, etc. If I had as much yarny stuff as you, that’s what I would do! I think she even has computer filing system to go with the whole kit-n-caboodle!
You are so calm and determined! That is a lot of yarn to organize. I couldn't do it and have to say I felt very overwhelmed just looking at it all! I'm interested to see it transformed!! Make your vision!!
I loved your rainbow 🌈 wall and I love your idea of sorting by brand. Well done to your hubby for organising those crates. Enjoy your new studio. Oh and the house has an elevator too WOW.
We’ve missed you miss and Mr yarn geeks 💜💜 I’m super impressed by you guys and the amount of progress you make in such a short amount of time! There’s our ginger ! As Mr Geek yapping about what you could be doing as you lay on the ground haha
This is so much work. It's going great. I like the cakes on the wall. So nice seeing such a supportive hubby. I can see sort first by brand. Then you can do your rainbows if that's what you want. I would like to sort mine also by yarn weight. I could never handel all this. Your doing great. Can't wait to watch the progress and see the final result.
HOLY MOLY! I knew you had GOBS and GOBS of yarn, but wow!!!! I don't know how you keep track of it all. It would take years to crochet all that. But am looking forward to seeing it ALL organized. You do have a wonderful husband.
Wow! I wish I had the energy and good legs and feet to get the stuff done that I need to do. I have a mess over here. But - I have some help coming and I’m gonna get rid of a bunch so it’s not so nuts here. That’s great that you’re getting the studio! Yay you! Big hugs! 😘 PS - Mr Geek is da bomb diggity to be so supportive of “your habit”. Ha ha! Big, squishy hugs 🥰 for you both!
Oh mercy me, I don’t believe I have ever seen a more beautiful & abundant stash!!! Now I know what Yarn Heaven will look like. 🤣 You are blessed indeed - with such an excellent husband, a lovely new studio, and above all, with enough yarn to last several lifetimes (and yes, I know that it’s still not enough. It never is). I’m really looking forward to seeing what you do with your new space and new yarn schemes. Thanks VERY much for sharing with us this new chapter of your life! ❤❤❤
WOW you can open up your own Joann’s lol. Your studio starting to look good. Yes I love these types of videos. By the way what a great hubby you have. Helping you without complaining and cracking jokes. Wish I could have found someone like him!!! I failed twice so no more😢. I store my yarn by brand. For me it’s easier to find if a certain pattern I like in a certain color way or brand I can check to see if I have it rather by color. I don’t have nearly 1/10 th of what you have but I also make cards and have tons of that type of crafty stuff. I am having to move w/in next 2 mos and NOT loving to pack AGAIN. 7 yrs ago I moved from CT to FL; since in FL I am now on my 6 or 7th move😮 and I’m no more a spring chicken. So good look and looking forward to more cool videos. Guess no more yarn hauls for you for awhile heh !!!??? ❤gayle
I'm having fun watching this and seeing how many I recognize. I've only been studying yarn for a few months now but I know at least half of these. Lol. I am bedridden so I have more than enough time to study yarn all day. And knit and crochet. :) There are so many more options in yarn than there were 20 years ago. Incredible!
I just was surfing yt because I was looking for a pattern to make a 2nd chunky blanket and seen your video and just by watching I am overwhelmed. You love yarn for sure. Your husband is a angel, but if you can afford it and thats what you are addicted to then have fun. I really like that chunky yarn but I can't get anymore than what i'm able to use I don't have room lol. 😊😊
Wow , oh lady lady ❤❤ you’re my best yarn friend. I have a 5/10 storage unit full of yarn apart from what I have in my closet in my apartment I’m trying to get a larger apartment so I can have a room for my yarn and me 😀😀😀😍🥰 . And more new yarn keeps coming out every few weeks what will we do 😀. You and your husband have a wonderful weekend.
My one and only tip is build some sort of database 😂 i use the knit¬e app. But basically anything that lets you look up what you have and how much of it. Even better if you can add where in the room it’s located 😂
New space is so exciting getting to start fresh and yet a bit overwhelming with so many possibilities! Have fun! Me, I like to organize by size and then rainbow. I do top row worsted, then chunky then cakes. And a separate area for cottons and misc.
Ginger I loved this video. Yes you have a lot of yarn but like you said it's part of your business how beautiful is it to just be able to go in your stash and be able to make whatever you want someone has a baby you need to make a prayer shawl I'm here for it , you go girl 🧶❤️
I have just found you channel, love it l have a lot of yarn as well ,l do a lot of knitting which l taught my self at the age of 7 .l am also teaching my self to crochet as well at the age of 68 . Keep going
OH MY GOODNESS Ginger!! I love it but I can tell you are overwhelmed.. But soon it will all be organized..Your husband is so sweet and supportive.. Mine would be like WOMAN! when did you get all this yarn? lolol.. I do the same I only buy when it is on sale. I noticed I started hoarding but I do not have the collection like you do.. My daughter saw this and said MOM, that will be you soon.. Thank you for what you do !! Love ya!!
We just had to make a major move, spending the summer working out of state, so I had to do a major destash of my craft room. I kept most of my yarn but it’s in storage because there wasn’t room to bring it along. I can’t explain it in a way that makes any sense, but I physically/mentally/emotionally miss the comfort of yarn. I have a little bit with me. I love that you love your yarn just as much. Watching this makes me both happy & a little yarnsick for my own. ❤
😂 So awesome 💖 I love this soo much!!!! Your husband did such a great job with the crates. They look so good! You're new office is major goals!!!! 💖💖💖💖 Might wanna blur out the license plates, and get some new ones when you move so rando's can't plot on you like they did to Crystal.
I love it 💕 I love yarn too and I think yarn lovers are all the same. I do buy yarn everywhere I go . Every store I go to and I have to get some type of yarn and my family now used to it kinda like it 🎉
Ginger, this is all so awesome! Once you get settled everything will be really wonderful. Great hubby! I am thrilled for you with a studio! I enjoyed this very much. Even exhausted, the two of you display joy and love. Congratulations on the move.
I'm inspired. I am getting ready to move all of my yarn into a large, nice storage shed. It will be my yarn barn studio. So glad you got your rental space for your studio. Lots of work, but worth it!
ps. My yarn barn is right outside my backdoor. Thank heavens. And I only have 1/4 of the yarn you have. I know you've been working really, really hard. 💞
This was fabulous great job how wonderful to get a space just for the yarn must be good for your head not so overwhelming I love me a rainbow 🌈 yarn wall but I enjoy much more a happier Ginger
Hi Ginger, loving the new yarn space. Casey did a great job hanging those crates. Looks more spacious, light and airy. Hope everything came together nicely and y’all are settled nicely and rested.
Thank-you Precious Beauty! 🥰 Casey is so sweet and wonderful… he hung all of the crates and helped me haul all the yarn…. And found me the studio! 💕🌸💕🌸
Perfect timing. The whole floor of my office/craftroom has to come up due to water issues from the laundry room right next door. The guys are coming to pack my office 🙀. This is all short notice. So this weekend I decided a whole lot of my office and craft stuff has to go BEFORE the packing. This has been the hardest room to declutter for me. Now I have no choice. Some of this has got to go. Congratulations on this new phase in your life. Your husband is an absolute angel. 😇 😊
@@theYarnGeek Your video is pure inspiration. I did my big yarn hoard move to a storage unit ( it wasn’t as big as yours. You make me feel half normal). 😂 But my office supply hoard is bad too. BTW Joann’s has the wooden bins on sale for $10 and it’s not a doorbuster, so you can get another 20% off. Also, there’s a bunch of new yarn at Joann’s. It’s not even on the website yet.
i can't imagine how to even keep inventory of what you have. good luck with your new studio and home, congrats on the son's graduation. i am on my way to not purchasing any more yarn unless i actually need it. i have more hoard than i have space for and that i can use but every time i want to make something i either don't have the right yarn weight, color, or enough skiens. so now i use what i have now and go on to only what i need in the future. there will always be yarn and always be sales. ❤.
Thanks for showing us your yarn and yarn room. I am in the process myself of trying to downsize in my home, the problem is I collect to many things. I told my husband I am willing to get rid of alot of my crafting things but NOT my yarn. I do believe if I took it from all the places I have it in the house, I probably have at least 3/4 of what you have. I do not have a channel and am not an advanced crocheters but I have been learning more things watching everyone’s channels on u-tube.
My very first video of your channel and of “meeting you”. And boy! What an intro! I am overwhelmed by the amount of yarn. But why not!? If you love it, can afford and bring you joy, you deserve every bit of it. I have been watching the video in small increments. I am acting Like I have to organize it. 😅😂
I have about 5 or 6 large bins and several tote bags with unfinished projects, and I thought I had alot!! WoW your a trooper! if you want to de-stash, you can send some my way!! I'm sure I can find a corner. Happy for you to get the new studio work space. It's wonderful.
It would be amazing to have just a small portion of that 😍 #goals That is a ton of beautiful yarn and will take you a while to organize. I know you will be tired after that 😳🥵
I am so excited for you and the new studio. It must have been great to spend that time with Mr. Ginger 😉! I love how ❤calm and patient he seemed. My husband loves my makes but he doesn’t understand the stash 😂🤷🏻♀️🫣🤣 He has some good ideas… use your finished projects or pattern tests as give always or fund raiser or fun raffles ❤
OH MY! 👀 Was his reaction! He's now happy with my modest stash, lol. I'm almost 70, I'm trying to outlive the stash... but then there's a sale, or new color, etc., etc. 🤣🤣
You have so much energy. I'm hoping you are going to have mystery boxes or some giveaways. Your yarn stash is amazing. Are you still in Lawrence? I'm hoping to meet you someday. I have a ton of family there.
