I own 3 Yashica YE , 1 Leica iif, 1 canon iif and 3 zorki 1 , compare to the Leica iif, Yashica YE has better build quality and bigger body size. Yashica YE is the best LTM camera I ever used.
Thank you for that information. I just bought one today. I own a Yashica YF, Leica iiif, Zorki 2c and Nicca 3S. My favorite is the YF so I hope to have a similar experience with the YE.
I was confused at first, because based on its camera production, Yashica of the late 1959 had neither the history or interest to build a camera of this quality. That these are in fact rebadged Nicca models explains all, as Nicca probably built the highest quality Leica copies of their day. Thinking of those Nicca tools and dies being converted to the production of pot-metal TLR chassis brings a tear to the eye.
Thank you for this video and for sharing your knowledge. I have recently acquired a very clean Yashica YE which I have paired with a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens in equally excellent condition. The YE has instantly become one of my most favorite cameras. It’s a jewel. I’ve just shot my first roll of film but haven’t developed yet. I’ve searched for info about service/repair of the YE but have found nothing. I did learn from your video that the vertical and horizontal rangefinder adjustments can be accomplished without removing the top cover (Thank you!), and I do need to adjust the vertical alignment a bit. However, I feel that the viewfinder/rangefinder optical elements need cleaning and I am hesitant to remove the top cover without having any technical literature or online video tutorial. Do you happen to know if such exists?
These cameras are not that hard to disassemble, but the set screws around the shutter speed ring are notorious for getting stuck, and are easily broken when you attempt to remove them. The Leica IIIC or F are similar cameras, and there is some info around showing how to disassemble them.
I wish you would pronounce Leica correctly. If you see an ei combination you give the long "i" sound as in the word lie. In German, when you have an ie combo the "e" gets a long sound, as in the word "eek". Thanks!
