Riot is overlooking the actual problem yet again - items. Permanently applying slow with Frozen Mallet(if you don't have solid chase potential in kit) and then having the extra benefit of being able to abuse Sheen or Trinity Force proves to be very problematic because of how ridiculous the sustained damage ends up being. It is the exact same problem as with mages which can abuse Rylai's - you are very unlikely get away from them once the slow is applied. Instead of reworking champions and their entire classes, Riot really has to understand the one constant in their balancing - items. Itemization has never been good in League of Legends. Compared to any other popular moba, League of Legends has always been behind in item design and for whatever reason they revamp almost everything every single season and we end up at the exact same problem over and over again. The Trinity Force meme for worlds exists for a reason... Oh and to clarify on my opinion - I don't like when a game developer tells me how to play the game. Riot said that they didn't want to take freedom from players away sometime back in season 2 as well. Tank Yasuo should be functional if the champion's kit allows it to be viable. After all, you're melee and designed to be dishing out damage with out a 'oh shit' button like Tryndamere.

Ever wonder if the tank items themselves are also op? Considering a lot of normal champs that barely build 1 or 2 tank items just end up tanking 70% of the dmg taken in the team.

Yasuo is my main and play it only on the top, mid just doesnt work (in diamond or higher at least) i build him PD> trinity force> BT>GA> and the situational boots its my favorite build and i recommend it, anyway i think yasuo is a strong pick but not enought to nerf him the problem is with this stupid tank items any champ can use them and be viable at 100%l

The reason tank builds worked/works on Yasuo, Fizz and Ekko Is because of their high mobility (allowing their consistent damage to eventually kill the enemy while being tanky and hard to kill) and because of the sustain damage in their kit... Akali with her E and Q having rather low cooldown... Fizz with his powerful DoT... Ekko with his passive and W passive... and Yasuo with his low cooldown Q (especially with sheen or fervor) They also have some utility with Fizz having the slow/avoid on his E and the slow + knock up on ult Ekko with all of his slows and his W being a powerful stun or at least forcing the enemy to move away Yasuo with windwall and the knock up on Q and knock up extension on his R

Potential two part solution: 1) have some tank items scale off of base stats. that way the tanks benefit from the items the most, we don't have assassin tanks and with base stats we can still have those weird-but-effective builds with some champions as base stats differ from champ to champ. 2) as a result of the above, alter the base values of certain tanks, brawlers, and whatever else to better scale with the changed items. tldr: change certain tank items to scale off of base stats, buff/nerf base stats on certain champs.

I gotta say, as a Yasuo main, I really wasn't expecting this, but I can see why it's on the table. I will say that the "Frozen Force" type builds are really really strong, and tough to put behind. With mid Yasuo if you set him behind it's tough for him to do much, but these tank builds are very safe and consistent. I've been using it and my toplane Yasuo is a lot more consistent than my mid even though that's the role I main and prefer.

I main yasuo top :P but I don't build tanky. My normal build is PD I.E BT GA BReaskers Greaves and FM with fervor. The damage build but with the frozen mallet and my boots change depending on my opponent

as a silver 5 player i should be saying "uhhh yasuo so broken uuhhhhh" the thing is all those silver and bronze players just suck personally i think yasuo is probably the easiest countrrable champ in lane hint. Use your brain while playing league think what you can do against him, ask your jungler for ganks anyways

Yasuo is so Easy to counter. A silence, stun, or root and you have a dead Yasuo.

Yasuo's problem is the same as Fizz's, Kalista's, Riven's and Fiora's: Spammable mobility. Super low cooldown mobility spells. Unless they get reworked and that feature be removed, it's better for the game that they stay as underpowered as possible.

I've been playing Yasuo with the same build from the beginning(ie+shiv as core), and as long as ur not doing too bad in lane, it's still stronger than the tank Yasuo build i think. If Riot were to increase his ad ratio on his Q, despite the fact that the base damage is lower, it would be way too powerful because the ie+shiv build path isn't all that bad to start with.And by increasing the ad ratio, it would just make that build path a lot stronger even a bit too op. Honestly for players like me who like to go ie+shiv, it could even be considered as a buff.

As a Yasuo main (don't hate me), I quite like these nerfs because Yasuo should follow a 'glass cannon' build and playstyle, its how he should be played. The tank build defeats the purpose of yasuo in my opinion. The idea is you go in, destroy the carries but risk dieing if you mess up, as a tank this is not an issue. Anyway, nice video Red :D

Honestly, I'm one who has a strong belief that when a lot of builds that seem really OP that all contain one item specifically come out, it's a problem not with the champ, but with the item. Trinity changed GP's build a bit, now having more pen than crit, god knows tanky Ekko is still around with the Trinity changes... Tinity is just an overloaded item, and the fact that people are building Yasuo, someone who gets so much out of crit, is getting 0% crit and this item kind of just prove it...

i think they should add a charge counter to his dash much like Akali and have a max 3 charges. It would limit his mobility slightly. I believe the issue with non tank champions building tank and getting away with it is because their mobility is just so good and they can stick to their target. Reduce the mobility and suddenly the build are not nearly as effective... at least in most cases.

I think Rito should nerf the tank items, because this same situation has happened several times

If riot nerf yasuo by lowering his base dmg on Q people will continue building him almost the same way. For me the perfect build for yasuo atm is Trinity>mercury/ninja tabi/swiftness>Fronzen mallet>phantom dancer>IE>GA/spirit/randuin's omen/sterak's gage/MAW or even BOTRK for more 1v1 split push power. Overall you are tank and you are doing alot of dmg, for me this works the best

Another suggestion to nerf the tank Yasuo from me would be, that you lower the AS-Scaling on his Q-Cooldown, so that you need to get more AS to get the lower cooldown. A lot of Yasuo builds contain 2 Atk Speed items, but since the current Q-CDR Cap is at 55% AS, those are almost filled by just buying Triforce. Maybe lower the scaling of that Q-Cooldown, but heighten the AS-Cap for the Q-Cooldown to 70% or 75%, and equal it out on the current Q-Cooldown on 55% AS. It would however nerf heavy AD builds with only 1 AS-Item, like PD or Statikk. Would be my idea to fix the problem.

The real problem with Fizz Ekko and Yasuo is the items they building are designed for champions who have a hard time getting to and sticking to their intended targets. These champions already have high sticking potential and some creative escape tactics. Riot chasing tails with numerical dmg nerfs

A good nerf could be: Make his Q deal way less damage, but the critical Q make triple that base damage (nerfed) so in a way that the critical Q dmg deal the same as now =) Something like .. his Q Now = 200 dmg , nerf to 70 but triple the dmg when critical so ---> 210.

Yasuo is one of those champions that carry hard or go south depending on your lane matchup and score.

The reason tank Yasuo and Ekko are so popular is because their primarily damage focused kits do not provide sustain or reliable resistances. With no means of natural survivability, which is absolutely critical for a skirmisher, players are needing to purchase it from items. With the near extinction of spell vamp Ekko is pretty much forced to have more resistances than sustainability. Yasuo does have the ability to benefit more heavily from AD items so an AD sustain build including lifesteal is certainly possible for him, but tank items are just strong right now. NERFING THEIR DAMAGE WILL NOT WORK. Not having the ability to deal enough damage in a short enough time is what is causing the need to buy sustainability. They have already tried this with Ekko and guess what, tank Ekko is still a problem. They need to BUFF their sustainability through their natural kit. Encourage players to purchase offensive items in order to deal sustainable damage without being destroyed too quickly.

The reason why he's "strong" even with a non-crit tank build is because he's also mobile, granted that he has an enemy or minions near him (minions especially in lane). At higher elo, players are much better at efficiently using his E+Q to harass and escape and outplay. Giving him a tanky build just allows him to live longer to utilize his mobility to outplay and set up a Whirlwind/ultimate for a favorable teamfight. If anything, they will rework his E and/or Q. They might give "charges" to his E to limit how many times he can dash (for ex: 3-4 dash charges, with a recharge time for each E charge), but to compensate, they might make the cooldown of his E on the same target like 2-3 seconds or something like that.) For his Q they might consider decreasing how long Yasuo can hold "Gathering Storm" (currently it's 10 sec, but they might lower it to like 6-7, maybe 8 sec). I don't think they would increase the stacks required to make a Whirlwind though, that would be quite a nerf for him.

Im onto this, i main riven and experienced fighting with a yasuo. But there are 2 yasuo i have fought that really makes me cringed, its like they're cheating. They stand through my faceroll combo all the time, auto attaking me, after my combo they almost had the same HP as mine, how could you possibly outdamage a riven's full combo while standing and auutoattacking? Well in this video i figured out the problem. PS-most of main yasuos i play with are using their dashes to avoid my full combo because they knew they can't outdamage me.

as i am a lvl 7 yasuo player i can say he should be nerfed but not too much he needs his q damage to be lower in his first stack and make it progressively higher,that might help and also change up the damage when u e and then q , like add a little more damage when u e and q

Tanky Yasuo is a lil strong right now and its true. As a champion he literally dies to everything just like Vayne. What makes him strong in toplane is his free last whisper that he gain from low CD ult. He could duel tanks without any problem (unless u take any type of CC especially stun) but still does a decent amount of damage to everyone, while he procs slow every second with the Frozen Mallet-ted Q. I`m Japanese and TBH I don't like watching Yasuo get nerfed over and over again since his release(doesn't really make sense), but I kinda agree with this nerf. Hopefully it doesn't affect much on his midlane play style. :/ FYI　there are 3 types of warriors in Japan. Bushi(武士), samurai(侍) and Ronin [wanderer] (浪人). Yasuo is a wanderer so he is a Ronin. Samurai is one of the hierarchy in the past and they have a master. Their job is to protect the royal family from Ninjas and other threat. Samurais do their best to gain honor from their masters. This is the reason y Yasuo hate Ninjas. Bushi is one of the warrior class and they pretty much "armed farmer". On the other hand when Samurais lose their job for any reason, they will become a Ronin (wanderer) which is Yasuo, so what I want to say here is, Yasuo is technically not a samurai.Riot named His passive "way of the wanderer"（浪人道) just some fun fact about Japanese warrior.

And here I thought we were out of the Tank Assassin meta. But, I can see why this works, seeing as most Assassins have Fighter as their Secondary Role, which is like a tank, but not as many defenses.

the problem is trinity force , I think if they make it so they reduce all champions's base AD and give all champions bonus ad passive it would fix a lot of these problems and they nerf a champion that abuses that without doing much harm to other champions or different play of the same champion , for example champion X got 54 base AD , they can make it 44 AD and the champion gets a passive which gives the champion 10 BONUS AD. that way you can balance the trinity force problems without having to work too much on it.

Honestly my main problem with yas is the strength of his shield and the ease of which he can abuse its power. I understand that all you have to do it 'hit it with a basic' but being close enough to do so with a lot of champions puts you in a position were yas can trade and he will always win trades because of his shield. the fact that it is only half of his passive is also a big problem no other champ in league has anywhere near that kind of power on a passive and the fact that it also is reset on his ult makes it very hard to kill him when any other champ with that kind of damage is extremely easy to kill. Also his e which sure is only useful when there are enemies around him. When are there never enemies around Yas. he is the only champ in leauge were having your team around you makes it more dangerous and if he finds you alone then your in even more trouble cause he is a burst champ that has no trouble sticking to targets even after flashes

I find it funny that Meddler casually mentions "oh yeah we might be taking a look at how to fix tank yasuo" and Redmercy instantly follows up with "YASUO GETTING GUTTED?". like wth making a quick fix to something with a 52% winrate isn't gutting

Being a Yasuo one trick top laner, I mostly use the tank build. I think these nerfs will really limit is ability to be played top lane since he can't match up with most tanks and/or provide tankiness for his team as efficiently. Time to move to mid lane...

how to fix: a) quick fix that doesn't really solve anything but will likely be thought up by riot: reduce base ad, increase crit damage% b) long term fix that will make him a better design: link crit reduction to scale through levels of q such that rank 0 has greater crit damage reduction, and rank 5 has either little to no crit reduction or has crit bonuses (id est, increased crit damage) c) utility changes that enforce decision making: make his w linked to his passive sheild and resource such that lvl 1 trades aren't as good, he has to choose between expending up to a cap of flow to make a wall and delay his anti-burst shield in a duel/fight. (which will in turn remove his second passive and link it to an ability in terms of amount of flow) no one ever listens to this anyways, but it'll give more skill cap to yasuo, make his early game vulnerable, and his late game properly scary. yasuo is about crits and late game in his design, but yasuo "mains" want him to always be powerful, which isn't fun to play against or challenging to play as.

Just go and Lower the his Basic Ad and Basiv dmg on his spells but increse the Ad Ratio a little bit this way he wont deal so much dmg with tank items and will only become a Tank with a little bit CC

I think the biggest problem is Trinity Force. If you look across the meta since the new Triforce Riot has been nerfing just a ton of champs that have been abusing it.

I like how when malz was getting constant nerfs most people were ok with that saying he was op and what not. Or when they made sure some assassin's couldn't get counter played with certain items and abilities (talking about how qss was changed to not work on zed or fizz ult) people were fine with it. Now when a champ who could burst down entire teams very quickly like yasuo is rumored to be getting a nerf all the yasuo players start to lose their shit and start acting like he's not strong/op in any way, shape, or form or that he was completely balanced how he is now.

i played top yasuo a lot lately with like an 80% winrate and i didnt even use fervor of battle LoL... i use the exact same maestries for fiora as for tank yasuo and worked perfectly fine always

I find this frustrating because he's op with the newer build which is the tank build but like, we're playing and building him the "way" he's supposed to be built now which is as a FIGHTER .. Instead of a squishy insanely high damage assassin -.- like I build him with, PD, triforce, ie, frozen mallet, sun fire/ banshees depending on what im fighting with Merc or tabi boots

I think Riot would definitely change the base damage and scaling on all of Yasuo's Abilities, excluding Windwall, and they'd probably increase his AD scaling to be 5-10% higher. Now if riot really get serious with AD assassin Yasuo, I think they should removed the Armor penetration effect on his ultimate and instead replace it with a fizz style buff which doubles the base damage of his already nerfed abilities.

I like doing a more half and half build go 2 crit items to get 100% then go mallet into what is needed either tank or dmg

Maybe they will changed the scaling on yasuo`s Q cd into crit.basically they would give more focus on him getting more crit being good.

one way might be to change yasuo's passiv so that his crits deal 200% dmg again instead of 190% and nerfing the q base dmg and buffing his q scaling in this way the old/intended yasuo would be more atractive than tank yasuo

I like how they nerf champs instead of the items, Sunfire Cape has been abused by so many different champs that you can go full tank Draven or Vayne and they'll end up doing more damage than their full damage builds. There is a reason this game can be renamed to League of Tanks since that's all that seems to be played nowadays.

arkadata suggestion is a very good solution, quite similar to what they did to nerf tank ekko but leaving ap assassin ekko in a good spot.

Yasuo's problem is his E. Plus. Riot need to add more true tank items back into the game. Force of nature for example. Things that add just raw stats, instead of passives. That way true tanks, like Nautilus, can be unaffected by items that are more suited on these sorts of champions (Fizz, Ekko, Iceborn Gauntlet Ezreal). That way these champions can be nerfed indirectly without tanks getting indirect nerfs as well.

He's my absolute favorite AD midlaner (after Zed ofcourse). This nerf might actually be good for him. its annoying facing tank yasuo's, it just isn't how he's meant to be.

I think the thing that really needs to be toned down is frozen mallet abit. Since champs like gnar and ekko abuse it abit like yas as well. Being a gnar main I must say frozen mallet and fervor work well together and can help you not only kite but don't a good deal of damage. Ps screw irelia pls nerf again enough is never enough

I build him SS/PD IE BT and 2 deffensive items like Sterak's, Scimitar, or Randuinns/Banshees and last item GA So this nerf will affect him only by half for me :D

i have a solution. change all tank items to increase armor/mr by a % of a champs base stats, like they changed mana regen. so naturally squishy champs dont get nearly as much from building tank items. good idea is good

You should do a "How strong is Twitch?" video because while he's usually a good pick he never makes it high on people's lists because of some random reason or another. But he has a consistently above average win rate so maybe explain his weaknesses too?

Nerf Suggestion : Make Yasuo's Q no longer apply on hit effects, and can crit only. For compensation, remove the penalty on his crits. Although this will destroy his Top build, it will make his Mid build still exactly the same which I think is quite fair.

He has a good dash and a wall that blocks damn near everything. What tank wouldn't want that? Solution: lower duration of wall and range of dash. Damage untouched, utility tanking left to tanks.

Seems odd this works. I didn't think his base stats were high enough to go with a build like this and still do decent dmg. There's no crit, and he doesn't have the usual %HP passive that makes builds like this possible for champs.

I think that they should nerf his q dmg and then buff its ad ratio so the more ad u would buy the more dmg it would do and yes akadata is on something with upping his crit dmg but i dont think that would be a smart idea bcs then he would just buy crit really early like 10% crit at start and 2 pots + warlords and he would simply be too op in the laning phase so just by lowering the dmg on his q but uppering the ratio would be the solution the way i look at it

What are the chances that they might start making items that can only be purchased by specific champions for the sake of balance and healthy gameplay. I personally think that some of the traditional tanks don't have enough in their own kits so all the extra stuff thrown into the tanky items makes them a lot more viable. The problem comes when champions that are have loaded kits manage to make use of loaded items.

Maybe the 2x chance of critical strike was bit too good for tank yasuo? Because you only need 2 items for 100% crit chance so you can just build tanky with 100% crit chance.

To be honest, I see Yasuo as one of the most balanced champions in all of League of Legends. A big proof of this is that he has not been nerfed - nor buffed for an eternity(before now...) With the very strong stats the defensive items give (like RedMercy told us), many assassins have begun building tanky. Examples can be Master Yi, Nocturne and Kha'zhix, and it all goes well. Therefore, I do agree that Yasuo has been way too strong in the top lane with these items, such as the Frozen Mallet and Sterak's Gaze. I'd rather nerf those strong items (which works on literally ALL the assassins right now) rather than nerfing a single champion that is already relatively(if not totally) balanced without this build.

I would suggest taking his shield away and lowering the q base damage but instead giving him better scale ups with crit and attack speed items, also taking away the crit penalty will be great for crit yas and will completely destroy tanksuo

I just started league again after a couple months just to here my main get nerfed and I never tried out the top tank build on yasuo because I loved the mid normal build

What if they made Yasuo do 10% or 15% less damage on non-crits?

This one build may be OP, but that's because other systems in the game are broken, not the champion. They're "fixing" the wrong problem, as usual.

They do the same thing every few patches when certain items are strong. Nerf all of the champs that abuse the items into the ground, then eventually nerf the items leaving the champs gutted.

Yasuo was one of the biggest reasons I quit this game and this nerf doesn't make me want to come back because things like akali are back in action. I still like watching stuff about it but riot is going to have to try very hard to make me interested again

i think change yasuo Q A skillshot basic attack. After two successful Steel Tempests, the next fires a tornado that knocks enemies Airborne. Thrusts forward, dealing 15/35/55/75/95 (+70% Attack Damage and 20%crit can +10%Attack Damage) physical damage. On hit, Steel Tempest grants a stack of Gathering Storm for 10 seconds. At 2 stacks, Steel Tempest fires a whirlwind that knocks Airborne. Steel Tempest is treated as a basic attack: It can critically strike, applies on-hit effects, and its cooldown and cast time are reduced by Attack Speed.

the problem I see with yasuo is his base stats are so overloaded due to his melee carry status that he can build whatever the hell he wants and be effective with it. tank stuff? tank yas is still hypermobile with good burst, and damage yasuo is just stupid because he can build 2 crit items and full ad and get bigger crits than anyone else on the rift.

Get rid of the cit penalty for Yasuo and instead make sure the only wat he is going to rip through people is having crit. Riot can try and tweak the passive on Yasuo where the more crit chance he has along with him getting double crit, the full damage he will get. For example if you have just a Phantom Dancer, you will only have access to 60% of the damage stats from damage items. So when they try and build tank Yasuo they have to decide either get 100% crit and miss out on 2 items to go tanky, or have to have 2 items for max damage Yasuo and sacrifice those tank stats.

Redmercy, my problem with ad yasuo is that stacking the q is to hard since everyone focus him. What if you hit q on two enemy champions then you'll get the tornado right away?

Yasuo is tehnically fighter and secondery assassin and the other champs that are like him are; fiora,jax,irelia and vi if i remember correctly.So why the hell riot doesn't want tank/tanky yasuo when you can go with the others fighter-assassins tanky and carry the game?(yeah i know the roles doesn't actually matter but still)

I feel like, even from the way you're talking. the best way to balance this is to nerf the items, not the champion. The tank items have shown time and again that they're too strong/abusable. I just don't see why they haven't done something about it yet.

but redmercy dont you think that if they buff q scaling it would also make tank yasuo more stronger cause you would be building ad aswell a bit on tank yasuo

If hes being played with tank items then nerf base damages but make it so crit does more so he's still a good pick

I hope they bring him more in this bruiser/fighter direction and not full cannon assasin die in every teamfight.
