NASTY!! I just purchased a 04 TL 6mt NBH Been waiting to get since the first time i saw this car back in like 04-05. I love the sleek design and the body line with the parking lights at either end. These cars made me drool when i would seen one, now i own one. It drives just as good as it looks. Peppy as hell, steering is real tight, and its so quiet and comfy my daughter sleeps like the baby she is every time we drive at night. Thank u Honda for making such a sick car!!
3rd gen TL was probably the best generation TL. If only they were rwd or awd, or made kits to replace the drivetrain. Would literally compete with the same types of luxury/sport vehicles of the same decade.
I love how wide those wheels and tires are. I'll get those with summer tires and take it through the hilly woody areas of ct. They look like steam rollers. Love it
Hate to admit it but after 280k miles she got tagged by someone moving over on the highway... popped my bumper off and my headlight out... insurance totaled it. But at least I got a 17 Accord Coupe Touring (3.5 V6) out of the whole ordeal... still miss my TL
This is similar to what I would like to do to my TL 6spd. I started at the other end of the car with a Stage 1 supercharger kit from GerzyBear Performance and I'm in love. There are def a few expensive car owners around my city wondering what in the hell I did to that 4 door sedan. @Yawsport if you get a chance I would interested in chatting.
Madman. Keep it up. Amazing work. What would you recommend for lowering about 1" - 1.5"? Springs or coils? Also how did that 5AT tranny hold up? Not well I'm guessing
For street use, I recommend getting the H&R Street Performance coil over kit which will give you the option to fine tune your ride height for wheel/tire clearance and daily road conditions. Not just springs. The price is right and and rides really well with the Bilstein made internals and H&R quality springs. Part number for the kit is 50105. This is the same kit that was initially installed on YAWSPORT TL to get it up and running, then the shocks were revalved and much higher rate racing coil springs were swapped in.
@vtecAcademy whats the part number number for the bilsteins on this TL. i run bilsteins on all my integras but havent been able to source any for my 07 TL-S
I actually utilized the H&R coil over kit shocks for the TL's first iteration of suspension tuning and have modified them a couple times since. These were originally made for H&R as a private label product through Bilstein. For street use, the kit is a great option. Very good ride and quality as you can expect from the two companies. I offer custom tuning and up-rated coil springs here at YAWSPORT on most anything Bilstein and I am also working closely with CUSCO.
+YAWSPORT OK, I'm sure you guys are well aware of the Acura TL's transmission reliability (or lack thereof), so I gotta ask: how many have you guys had to put in this car?
maintenance before mods, so if a mod can be timed with the work that would need to be done anyway start there. There are a lot of great brake parts for our 3g TLs especially for spirited driving. I love the look of my powder coated stoptech calipers and there was no need to go to the type-s steering knuckle like you do with the Brembos. As crazy as it sounds I've been very happy as well with the new black coated Duralast Gold high carbon rotors and c-max pads. For the price you can beat the looks and holds up better than stock parts. Braided brake lines and stiffer bushings and links for the sway bars are cheap and easy to do while installing the 3/4" drop a-spec dampers for the same price as base OEM dampers. Got mine for under 600. Once again a maintenance item scored me an upgrade. I would also mention that our alloys are prone to bending, took mine in and for under 250 had all 4 rims corrected rides like it's on glass now. raxles make a great race axle if you have drive line vibration like some TLs develop.
Warterdesmanne I'd spend that $600 on Tein Street Advance coil overs (which are $655 at Amazon right now). They were around $850 when I bought them. You can choose exactly how low you want your car to go and set the exact damping you desire.
+vidurc The front bar is the original Base TL variant. The car is still sprung far too soft for our purposes and spring/shock changes are currently in the works. Combined with even wider front Hoosiers and ZE40 Volk wheels, the body roll is really excessive. The rear Progress adjustable anti-sway bar is run at full stiff.
YAWSPORT Interesting. I have a 6 spd TL and haven't had issues with roll but have been having issues with understeer after lowering the car with the neuspeed cup kit. Had to lift the rear 1 inch to generate oversteer and I'm running it without the sway bar without too much roll surprisingly.
+YAWSPORT I was very surprised at what just the a-spec and tighter bushings and links for the front helped with roll but that's a lot of engine and tranny up front. Any plans to look into a 3.5 or maybe the 07-08 tranny? I know the 04-06 had some issues. are you running red line fluid?
+Warterdesmanne The car now has the King Motorsports built J35A8 engine and '08 Type-S 6-spd gearbox with low friction treatment to all of the gears. We run Mobil 1 synthetic in both the engine and gearbox.
+YAWSPORT very cool when you said engine next all I could think was j35. I've seen one or two with the 09 MDX injectors and valve train if memory serves. is it just the type s 3.5?
No doubt Acura puts out amazing vehicles. I have the 2010 TSX with the J35. Stock is a few hundred pounds lighter than stock TL. I love how surprising this car is because it looks identical to the 2.4L model but much more aggressive of course. Drivers of Genesis, Maxima, and Focus ST are often surprised when I pass them on the 1/4 mile. The J series motors are very underrated.
