Good morning Kim and Levi🌻🦋☕☕💕 I think the wire for the whole porch- deck would look nice and keep cats, chickens, wild life off-out of your deck area! I m not sure on clipping chickens wings,🤔 where there is a predator problem they would be easy prey! Lester showed a new video of 2 more new stray dogs in his pond area, and won't be long before they wander your way! You could also plant climbing plants on your outside wire area to grow beautiful flowers and for shade, cover, like morning glories, clematis, roses ECT ! You have great ideas so I m sure whatever you tackle will look awesome and blend in! Thank you for sharing🥰🌹🦋
Sounds like a great idea Kim! I would do the whole thing. It will keep the chickens, cats and possible breakout of goats from coming in. You can still see and enjoy your porch
Good Wednesday morning Kim. I would say wire the kitchen and sitting area completely. The reason is if the wiring is only around sitting area the perception looking out will feel boxy if your sitting closer to the wiring. And exposing kitchen area to chickens still defeats the purpose of cleanliness. Have an awesome day 😊
I love your idea of the wire enclosure for your porch with climbing vines on the sides for shade and a natural look. It will look lovely and stay cleaner. I can hear Daniel and your dad ribbing you about it. Make it be what you want and enjoy it. I agree about the pool. If it’s not being used enough, it’s not worth the time or expense.
I understand the frustration. I think he “screened” in porch is a great idea. If anyone can do it and make it look nice it would be you. I’ve thought about getting rid of my 24’ pool since my kids have grown & moved out….but I do enjoy jumping in after a day of yardwork and night swims.
Good Wednesday morning from Dallas Oregon. Our barn cats leave the same furry mess. I have to wash the cushions every summer. Have a blessed day. ❤❤❤😊😊😊
I feel for ya Kim…I have the same issue with my back deck and Gazebo. They do make a Pet proof screen that cats cannot destroy. I have replaced all of my window screens with this pet proof screen and none of my cats have destroyed it yet. I’ve had them for 10+ yrs so far. 2 out of my 8 cats will even climb the screens to get my attention…lol screens would even help keep summer bugs like flies and stuff off your deck too. I’m thinking of enclosing my gazebo to keep everyone off my furniture too.
Good morning! I think enclosing the entire porch with wire is a great idea. I would worry, however, that having the T-11 around the bottom portion might block some of the sunlight. Could you just do floor to ceiling wire and then your pretty potted plants will still get the sun? Whatever you choose to do, it will look fabulous because you do great work!! Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
Awesome, Kim love that idea of putting up wire to enclosure patio. You just have to put beds out for the cat in other places where they could stay warm and out of the rain in the winter when it’s cold that’s why they do that. ❤
Good morning! That’s a great idea! I would do the whole porch to keep both sides clean and free from kitties and chickens. Love the wire idea so you’ll still have a breeze.
I understand you totally Kim! I have nothing nice in my house, my cat used my recliner as a scratching post , my dogs dug a hole in my leather couch. We live our animals & can’t live without them but sometimes they are trying. I think using wire for your patio is a great idea. 😊
I like the idea of closing in the living area of the deck. (kitchen & seating area) You could do all wire and cover the bottom with your vine stuff, that really looks nice keeping the "outdoor" look and feel. Plus you have the vine stuff that PawPaw and Gigi gave you.
Your 1st vision is good. Enclose the whole area with the wire & keep the side doors instead of adding another door facing the yard. The cats & chickens can be on the outter porch where the picnic table is. Maybe add the fake green foliage(half the height of the existing) all along the bottom & sides so you can sit & still see your yard unobstructed.
Feral cats can be a big problem, I know I had over 20 at my home back in the late 90's. Animal control wasn't a big help and I didn't want to think they were being put down. Oh and among the 20 cats there was also a possum. I didn't want them going hungry but it was costing me a fortune to feed. Once we got the Tom's caught the Mama cats were manageable. I love cats but not all over where I sit, good luck with your plans, you got this I've seen your work and it's great. ❤
Hi Kim. I like your idea about the wire, I believe it’s called hardware cloth if I’m not mistaken. Then you’d still be able to see out into your yard to keep an eye on all your fur babies and feather babies. You could also have some sort of climbing plants growing up on it. I love cats but they can make a dirty furry mess out of all your furniture.
Really think your idea will be perfect! I watched how screen breaks down. I think what you want to use will be perfect and will keep both critters away from the sitting/cooking area! Love you, Kim! ❤
Morning Kim!! I’m enjoying listening to your planning while having some coffee. How nice it would be to sit on your porch in the mornings! Looking forward to following you on this screened in / fenced in project!
Hi Kim, I liked your idea about screening in the whole area, kitchen and living area. I think it’s the best idea to keep the chickens and cats out. Worry about the extended deck area once it’s built. I love your content and don’t care how many times you say poop, lol. God bless, from Canadice NY ❤
Yay! I think it's a great idea to put up the wire on it all. Let the chickens be happy in the yard and keep the bugs away. This way you can go out on the porch when you want without being stressed about the cat hair and chicken poo. You have to have your happy place ❤
I like your idea of putting wired fence around the whole porch area to keep your cats & chicken out. Maybe get a storage containers for your cushion when you are not using them in the winter months. Whatever you decide we will support you. Have a good night! ❤
Good morning Kim a great big y ay! We loved our cats but I screened off porch in back so we could enjoy our porch good idea they have plenty of places to get out of the weather. You will love it
Love your idea Kim, you could color the wire also as an option. Other idea is to cover all the furniture but who wants to do that everyday. What about a cat shed? Like the chickens with beds and enclosure ????? Can't wait to see what you come with ❤
I think it's a great idea 😊 I'd do the entire porch. Maybe you can grow grapes in pots that can grow up on the mesh? Or some kind of vines with either vegetable or fruit so you can have food from it and extend your garden. Or pretty flowering vines in parts and fruit/vegetables vines in between? Make it usable 😊
Yes! I do interior design work and I definitely think you would be so much happier having your own outdoor space. I would include the entire cooking and sitting areas. I would also paint your screen/wire black to help it disappear💕
Great idea to screen in the whole porch. Give you great out door space. I don't remember...Do you have another space your outdoor cats can get out of the weather? Can't wait to see the finished product
Good morning, Kim. Yes, I would screen in the whole porch to keep your pretty things nice to look at and enjoy. Being in the NW, I put all our cushions inside in the winter cause it's usually too cold and miserable to sit outside anyway. I wish I had a covered deck like yours.
Hi Kim, I say yes!!! Cats are very destructive to furniture etc. I love cats but after they ruined my cabinets by jumping up and scratching them to ribbons to get on the counters when I was working! You deserve to enjoy your outdoor area you worked so hard at, and the cats and the chickens can enjoy the space outside your beautiful space!!!! ❤❤❤
Kim we have 23 feral cats here on the farm. We tried catching them but they are too smart. When did catch a few the only place that will “fix” them is 50 miles away and charge 120 for females and 75 for males. We can’t afford that plusher travel time our local humane society always tell us they are full and will not accept them.
Hey Kim. My thoughts are for using the wire on the entire area. It would be so pretty and plant climbing vines, plants all around your pretty clean deck. Love your videos.
The wire idea is a good one with no siding on the lower half in the sitting area. If you are sitting down you probably wouldn't be able to see out into the yard. Whatever the solution is, you will figure it out.
I agree with closing it all in and having an outside animal free zone. If you want it bug proof as well there is pet resistant screen you can buy. I have never had a problem with cats ruining it like regular screen, although the wire may not be as easy to climb. Not sure how big a roll and the price of screen is now compared to the wire, but it could be something to look into.
Yay! I say Go For It Kim! I love screened in porches. If the only problem was the cushions they you could store them away and take them out when you want to use them. Since it’s more than that and you want a peaceful pretty sitting area, I think it is a great idea
I think the screened area to include the cooking area would be your best option. I too would be frustrated with the mess the animals are making. You have invested so much to make your area inviting. You will make the best decision before spring outdoor relaxation and hosting time.
Fence in entire area. I honestly can not wait to see the deck after it’s enlarged. It is going to be so pretty cuz everything you do turns out gorgeous
I think wire around the deck would work. I think the T11 would block the breeze from getting through. You will do a great job whatever you do!!! 👍🌸🌻🌳🌷🪴
Good morning Kim,I think your idea is perfect to keep the chickens and cats out,but I think you need to do right across otherwise you are still going to have to clean the kitchen and bar area all the time.I think it would look better going right across instead of just one corner fenced in.Great idea going to look lovely.
Kim, I think the wires a good idea I would do the whole living area, make it look cohesive and keep the animals out of your living area. I mean think about it you don’t want the cats and the chickens and your kitchen area either because you’re gonna have to clean before you can use it. Great idea!
I love the open view of the entire deck and wouldn't want it split into 'rooms'. But I wouldn't want the walls to block the view of fairy gardens when seated on deck. Anyway to do full welded wire as a screened deck?
I think screen/fencing the whole sitting and kitchen area is the best bet. Then all that area stays clean for you'll to enjoy. Besides, the chickens and cats don't need couches, nor do they cook, lol.
Yes, close it all off from the cats and chickens. The wire is a good idea bc you can still get a clear view of your yard and give you peace with the area.
Like the idea of screening in a small area.... could make slip covers for your cushions.. that way you could wash them. Then in the open area the animals could still get shelter...
Just my thoughts: I would do all wire and no T111 so you have a clear view to your backyard and it won't feel so closed in. Just put a 2x4 along the bottom between the posts and attach the wire fencing to it. Does that make sense? Anything you decide to do will make that area people friendly.
Kim make a tunnel with wire from chick house to another larger area for them but so they can't roam everywhere. As far as the cats the porch on bottom put the wood like Daniel put on his barn and then the top put cheaper wire so cats can't get get onto your porch . You do the most beautiful work .and don't you have one of those old door you can utilize into the project??to pretty it up???
Good Morning Kim and Levi i love seeing Rosie in your window... I think you have a good idea about screening in the porch and having a space for you to get away.
Kim, what about making some cat trees? You can make them in all different shapes and cover it with carpet. That will help them stay off the furniture. Where will the outside cats go when its bad weather if they can't use the patio? An option for that could be to make a small cat house, where they feel safe from the rain and harm! Just throwing out suggestions. I'm a cat person too, but my cats are only indoors after one was killed by some dogs.
I think it sounds Luke a good plan Kim, it is so hard keeping it all clean with the animals, you will Love it so much better when its done, no hassle to go sit n relax.✌💜
Hi Kim and Levi. So sweet to see your bird flying around. I understand your dilemma and why you want to do and keep it cat and chicken free. The only way is by wiring it all round so it is a yah from me. You’re sounding a little bit better hope it is improving and medicines are working. Hope you have a great day take care and God bless 💕🙏🦋
