The first referenced that I ever encountered to Yazidis was in an H.P. Lovecraft story. In the "Horror at Red Hook" Lovecraft refers to them as "the Yezidis, last survivors of the Persian devil-worshippers". So, there is an example of the type of incorrect characterizations of their belief system that they have historically suffered.

I have a 12th century Ezidi fire bowl made of bronze. The seven angels & Sheikh Adi ibn Musa are depicted by engraving & perforated filigree around it's circumference. On the base is a geometric engraving which represents the Melek Taus. If a flame is placed in the bowl in a dark room, the perforations emit projections of light on the walls. I highly doubt it. Yazidism is a part of a larger realm of Iranian religions collectively termed 'Yazdanism'. Therefore, it is highly unlikely it is related to Hinduism. If anything, Yazidism is a sub sect of Zoroastrian ism. Yazidism is monotheistic, unlike Hinduism. The shape of lamps cannot be used as a comparison. It doesn't act as concrete evidence.

They could also be incorporating Hinduism. The peacock is a symbol of Lord Krishna and I’ve seen Yazidi iconology with A person riding a peacock who had markings on their foreheads that resemble both Vaisnava and Saivite markings. One of Krishnas sons in their scriptures rides a peacock in battle. The seven seers or Siddhas are used in Hinduism and also represent the planets. Too many similarities!

Religious studies isn't in high demand per se, but any job which involves interacting with people of various backgrounds will benefit from a degree in it. In general, I advise people to study what makes them happy and usually they will be able to do something with it if they are willing to work hard. Studying something you love will make it feel less difficult when trying to find or create a career. But if you're looking for an easy way to make money, you're looking in the wrong place.

Pursue such study at a public (State) university. Private colleges tend to have a historical connection to some Christian denomination. May have very strong theology studies but weak when it comes to a comprehensive and general study of religion or focus on non Christian religion. I would recommend Indiana University (Bloomington), that is where I did my graduate work in Religious Studies. Well rounded and balanced offerings.

The temple is in UNESCO right because it turned out to be 4000 years old. But as a Yazidi I don't believe that it will exist for long. In the past we used to hide so others wouldn't know of our existence and that's how we protected ourselves and our temples from outsiders. But now because everyone knows the place of the temple they might go and b0mb it. They do it all the time. My dad died in a suicide bombing and one day someone also bombed himself in the middle of our village without any reason and that was even before is!s existed.

First kurd who accepted the fact. Although I'm also an atheist but I'm still a ezidy and will not leave my group. If you understand the meaning of the words ezdi and khude in Kurdish you will understand what you believed in and why the kurds still use the name khuda. Ezdi or Ezda is made up of two word. Ez meaning Me and das meaning give or created and khu meaning himself and da meaning give. The meaning is god is the self given while he gave us or created us. Every time we call ourselves ezidi we are just saying created us (we are the creation of god). It has no deep meaning though because I really don't believe in god.

If I remember correctly (speaking from memory as I haven't been able to find the source) Yazidi tradition also has a story in which all the angels bow before the newly created Adam except for Melek Tawus; when God asks him why he isn't bowing, Melek Tawus replies "because You told us earlier to bow to no creature but You", then God rewards him by elevating him above the rest of the angels. A similar story exists in the Muslim and Judeo-christian traditions, but in that one it's Satan/Eblis who won't bow to Adam, and he is _punished_ for it, not rewarded. All in all, I guess it's not surprising that people took the Yazidis for devil worshippers...
@tstarr8314
@tstarr8314 3 года назад
Technically Iblis wasn't punished for not bowing to Adam. Iblis had been given special permissions from God such as interacting with the angels, which other djinn were not permitted to do, because he was loved by God. Then he disobeyed God's command, questioned God's decision to create Adam essentially telling God He had made a mistake, and declared himself to be better than Adam because he was made from fire while man was made from clay. He put his love for himself over his love for God. In Islam it is said that anyone with an ounce of arrogance in their heart will not enter Paradise, and it sounds like Iblis had pounds of it.

The most prominent is the concept of 1) *Rebirth* by soul leaving the body after death and taking new birth in a new body based on deeds of present life(karma) This is the foundation of Hindu Belief system. 2) 7 angels or divine beings governing humanity, we call them SaptaRishis 7 divine beings born out of Bhrama. 3) praying facing the sun. Great video! Germany here and I can report that the Yazidi people are very respectable people. Even the Kurdish people (from Iraq) who are Muslims are very respectable people. The notion that all Kurds were Yazidi before Mohammed came around seems to be standard amongst Yazidis. Also consider the "seven Spirits before the throne of God" in the christian book of Revelations. Again! Great video, very much appreciated.

"Respectability" is a double-edged sword, if it requires stoning girls to death.
