So many sweet memories are associated with this song. Latadidi, as she is fondly called by all of us Indians, meaning elder sister, sang this number for the film Silsila, an all time hit film. She performed this song live on her very very rare stage show in Mumbai at the age of 71 years. Just look at that scale and depth of her voice. Amitabhji & Rekha were in the lead role and Mr Bachan actually lent his voice for the rendition of poetical versus in the original track. This evergreen song was picturized in the enchanting tulip gardens of Amsterdam in Holland by Yash Chopraji ( Director of the film) who is also shown in the program in between. He has been honoured by the Govt of Holland for his contributions in promoting their tourism by installing his statue in Amsterdam, by naming a street, etc. So lots of nostalgic memories when one hears this song......
Even if you didn't say a word for India's Nightingale- Lata Mangekeshkar. The most respected playback singer of India. I will give you benefit of doubt this one time. I mean I myself am a Big B fan. But to every time ignore all other talents and persons in obvious bias in his favour. Even when they deserve at least acknowledgement is not done. BTW this video was of Lata Mangekeshkar Concert. So obviously it's Lata ji who was supposed to sing. And Lata ji is a bigger celebrity than Big B in many senses.

She is a legend. She is very much alive. But doesn't sing anymore. U have to listen to her "ae mere watan ke logon" she sang for the country and the first prime minister of India was in tear when she sang live it to commemorate the sacrifice of Indian soldiers in Sino-India war 1962.
Lata Mangeshkar is called the nightingale of India. Japan scientist wanted rights to examine her vocal cord after her death. :) Because at the age of 65 also she sounded like a little girl. And she can sing any notes.

The lady shown frequently sitting in the audience is Rekha(who was in Silsila movie opposite Amitabh. Amitabh and Rekha had an affaire which the mutualy terminated and Amitabh is with Jaya since then. The Old Guy shown in the audience is Silsila director Yash Chopra. Also in the audience is the great SACHIN TENDULKAR with his wife. You must watch Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore kumar songs...They are the legendery playback singers of Indian Film Industry. Wow. What a find! I am seeing this live performance for the first time (have seen the song in that movie many times before) and it blew my mind. Lata is great. Big B has such a rich voice.

Lata mangeskar had recorded more the 50 thousands songs in 36 language and mostly Hindi and Marathi language she has recognised by Guinness books of records for recording higest number of songs in her career she has awarded higest civilian award by our country that is Bharat ratna and many awards now she is 91 but still sings songs
She is really old in this. And she still sounds divine. Imagine her in her youth! I could listen to her old songs all day, every day if that were the last thing I could do.

Well I can't thank you guys enough for reacting to this song...one of my all time favorites...you 2 must watch this movie. During that time Amitabh and Rekha had real time affair and one can see that chemistry btwn 2 (BTW they showed Rekha in white saree in this concert when Amitabh was narrating on stage-check out again). I am sure whole lot of other comments must hv already said so. Plus the scenic beauty where this song was shot is "Kashmir". No wonder we hv to fight for it...love u guys for picking this song....me and my wife will hv to see this movie again for old time sake and listen to all the songs
