*This is utterly sad;* I just found out that her mom committed suicide after Abbey's performance of "My Mind". She changed her name to Yebba shortly after and made this song as a tribute to her; and even sang this in the church her mother attended. May she rest in peace.

IDK how Yebba remains one of the most underrated artists of our time. The only explanation is that she is so advanced, it'll be YEARS before she is fully appreciated. She brings me closer to God than Ive ever felt. Time.Stands.Still.

The story behind so much of Yebba's music is heartbreaking, but the way she infuses the yearning she has for her late mother into her songwriting is as spiritually annointed as it is technically superb, and hauntingly poetic. When you look across the current musical landscape and look at the quality of output from today's young creatives, it's clear Yebba will be an artist for the ages.

I didn’t learn about her mom’s passing until listening to her new album. The lyrics “I know it’s just as hard in heaven” have hit me in a way they never have before. I’m sobbing. We love you Yebba!

That extra beat in the chorus after the second "wait for me", the "yeah yeah yeah" bit... such a small little detail, but that timing syncopation is simply spectacular. Little details like that help set Yebba apart in such a clever and brilliant way. I feel like so many good singers are emulating the sound of the times, but Yebba is comfortable bringing her whole self to her music, and the uniqueness really shines through. Subtle, but unignorable. She conveys the mood of her songs like few I've ever heard. Amazing song, amazing vocalist, engaging performer... you rock hard, Yebba!

So, so, so good! So I've listened to it about 10 times today, pretty much every time I complete some mundane task on this Monday...you know as a reward.

To this day this song haunts me and gives me absolute delight at the same time! I became a fan of YEBBA the year my mother would pass away in the Summer of 2022. I loved "Evergreen" instantly ( before this version I had been a fan of the one by Barbara Streisand) I became a fan for life when my daughter explained to me that it was not a song of heartbreak for a lover OR unrequited love but rather a heart-wrenching tribute to her Mother who had taken her own life. So I will always be reminded of three things when I hear this: the heartache of losing my own Mom to Cancer...the heartache of a male friend that I was falling in love with but respectfully can never have...DTP....and my unbreakable bond with my daughter who always knows what to say or play for me somehow when I'm in my feelings....my own 'Evergreen".

this was just absolutely beautiful. i love the movement of the piece for one, the slow but steady build. while her part was absolutely heartbreaking, the background vocals sounded almost... hopeful? its hard to explain it but it was almost joyous. it sounded like both a song of mourning and a song to celebrate at the same time, not even mourning in the beginning then celebrating at the end, but doing both at the same time. expressing the duality of grief in a way not usually discussed. im glad hozier mentioned her in an interview i saw!

I’ve already commented on and LOVED this video but even more so since I just recently lost my grandmother to Alzheimer’s. We were really really close and her death came so quickly, it’s been hard to process. I watch this video all the time but I can’t get through it without crying now. What amazes me about Yebba is that she takes her own music and makes it her own all over again. I can't think of any other artist who does that as well as she does. She completely owns every note. It's like she has no idea what is going to come out of her mouth. She only know that whatever it is she can deliver it, and that is a gift to the listener. I cannot get enough of this voice. I pray that she will receive the peace in her soul from the loss of her beloved mother. I hope she comes to know how beloved she is!!!
