Song From Old Classic Movie Pyaasa (1957) starring Guru Dutt, Mala Sinha, Waheeda Rehman, Rehman, Johny Walker, Mehmood, Tun Tun. Director: Guru Dutt, Music Director: S D Burman. Singer: Mohammed Rafi.
Every sensitive person is moved by the misery and madness of this world, but few have the ability to express their emotions like Sahir. What a master poet he was! He is at his poetic best in this song. SD Burman’s music provides the ideal framework for Sahir’s words and Mohd. Rafi’s magical voice brings them to life. Add Guru Dutt’s wonderful acting and you have a perfect song!
oh god, wat kind of ppl these were who create such emotion, pain, truth on screen..salute to them guru dutt, rafi saab...seen so many times but every time is like the first time... these are souulful indian master piece..
Pyasa is a cult... an immortal cult... a movie that could not be described in words... can someone think it was a disaster at theatres when it was first released. It broke Gurudatt from within and he could never recover thereafter.
Pysaa was very commercially successful. It was kagaz ke phool which flooped in the cinema and failed to make any considerable amount of money. Kaagaz ke pbool was the film which broke guru dutt. I think you have these films confused :)
You're right Sir, I'm 20 years old. I have watched all movies of him. All movies are great. Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam, Kagaz ke phool, Chaudhvin ka Chand etc all are best & ahead of time.
Raghav garg Sir, what I mean was , it visits me repeatedly. Though I don't understand the meaning fully, the tune, and his agony with the Society/Life,(thast much I can understand), haunts me. It brings solace, it brings pain all mixed you know. It haunts.
This movie came in 1957.....66years back he is talking about ye duniya.... This world is cruel ti emotiinal and sensitive people.... These lines are so true in today's world
modern cinema will never be able to match the content, passion, acting, lyrics and singing of the old classics. today its only profit and loss and box office earnings, where as the classics earned for golden jubiles and platinum jubilies. people would take pride in their work and would come out with master pieces. today its showbiz NO MASTER PIECE
Yes,Pyaasa is my favorit film. I saw this several times when I was in North Indian States in the ending years of fifties and still I use to see this Anmool creation of GURUJI in CD.The songs of this film by RAFI SAB and Geetha Dutt are incomparable. It is a classic for ever.My reverance to the memmory of GURUJI.
I doubt if Indian Cinema has or will ever be capable of creating one such master stroke again, this compilation is still the best Indian cinematic way to describe the art of a artist and pin point the narrow mindedness of social stigma, this only proves that time has changed the truth of human society still remains the same to this day.
I used to listen to this music on an audio tape, but now I can watch it on RU-vid. Thank you for the opportunity, RU-vid, and a special thanks to the legendary Rafi Sahab. Though you may have left this earth, your spirit continues to reside within all of us, regardless of our religious backgrounds. Whether Hindu or Muslim, we are united by your timeless music.
I bow down to the great Guru Dutt who showed the world who he really is and what he is capable of . And to everybody who was the part of this film and contributed in this masterpiece ...I strongly believe that this thought of socialism based movies will return on the screen without even the slightest touch of commercialism...
Listen to the lyrics (each and every word)…… so damn true in today’s world. It’s a curse to be born as a human ! I am so happy the legends behind this songs are no more, else they would be laughing and saying “I had told this YEARS back”. Thank you legends for giving this song to us, YET we HUMANS are ignorant.
This is May 2024 and this timeless and classic song of film Pyasa continues to be exceedingly popular even after 66 years of its release. Immortal acting by Guru Dutt, once in life time lyrics, soulful, sad, superb & sincerest singing by legendary Rafi Saheb ; these all combine to make this one of the greatest songs ever.
Guru dutt sahab ne is film ke zarye future ko predict kiya hai q k abhi sab cheze ho rahi hain jo guru dutt sahab ne us waqt pesh kiya sahir ludhyanvi ne kya zabardast likha hai
Us samay bhi wohi tha.... Jo aab hai..... Sirf putale badal gaye hai...... 😊😊😊...... Isliye tuo yah gannaa likha gaya...... Dil ki baat zubaan per aati hai.........
यहाँ पर तो जीवन से है मौत सस्ती . . ये दुनिया अगर मिल भी जाये तो क्या है hats off to Sahir Ludhianvi who has written this in 1957 and its like verbatim truth in 2015, "Har zism ghayal har ek ruh payasi" "Iha par to jiban se hai maut sasti" ......................................................written by Sahir Ludhianvi, sung by Mohammed Rafi, Music by Burman Da and directed by Guru Dutt................... SD Burman’s music provides the ideal framework for Sahir’s words and Mohd. Rafi’s magical voice brings them to life. Add Guru Dutt’s wonderful acting and you have a perfect song!

A brilliant song, which holds truth in the given circumstances! Brilliantly penned by Sahir Sahab, Wonderfully Composed by Barman Dada and superbly sung by Rafi Sahab!
hats off to Sahir Ludhianvi who has written this in 1957 and its like verbatim truth in 2015, "Har zism ghayal har ek ruh payasi" "Iha par to jiban se hai maut sasti"
Mad people make distinction between these singers, whereas Rafi sahab, Mukesh, Kishore, Mannade and Hemantda all had immense respect for each other.....
Yes. And I feel his pain...his tortured view of the poverty and corruption in our world..If he were alive today, no doubt he would feel even worse....He was a true saint and genius!
Kishore Kumar to is gaana ka spano mein gaa nahi sakta wo to eligible nahi is tarah ka gaana gaane ke liye ,har waqt romantic gaa ke mahan baitha hai ,lannti kutta kawashor@@sidrorvibes7425
A song whose words are as relevant even today as it was in that time. what a masterpiece created and performed by Sahir Ludihyanvi Sir/ S D Burman Sir / Md Rafi Sir and Gurudutt Sir :)
Just simply Wow.Amazing composition and what a performance by Guru Dutt and the splendid voice lend by Legend Muhammad Rafi. This is the best song ever made.
In the year 2008-09, I was around 12-13 years of my age. We had a DVD player, my father brought 2 DVDs of songs from Rafi Sahab and Kishore Da. He used to listen them on every weekend afternoons and evenings. I am glad that this entire thing happend to me in my childhood. Specifically this song.
RAFI SAHAB, YOU ARE THE LAST WORD OF MUSIC AND MALE VOICE ANY TIME , ANY WHERE,......YOU ARE THE INCARNATION OF GOD'S MUSICAL COUNTERPART.....YOU ARE THE GREATEST FOREVER AND FOREVER....THIS TIME WORLD NEEDS YOU....AND WILL NEED YOU ONCE AND FOR ALL TIME....
can any one sing like Rafi did here?. Can anyone create an immortal classic like Sachin Dev Burman did here?. Can anyone write a song again like Sahir Ludhianvi did here?. Can another "Pyaasa" be created again. No, never. Even if Guru Dutt were to come back alive again, looking at the trash being created in the name of modern cinema,he would commit suicide again. V.Maruthi Rao(Bangalore)
yeh dunia agar mil bhi jaaye to kya, yaha jism Bikte hai Bazaar ban kar, yeh daulat ke bhookhe samajo ki dooniya, this sarcastic song is quite awakening. Sahir ji was really like a mirror of the dirty society. No other writer could penned down such a meaningful song so far.
