BTW as for the mention of Daxter not being a playable driver I was mainly referring to the Story mode (like he isnt in the races) the extra content and multiplayer mode is a different story (high key forgot the Daxter Mobile was a thing cause I got my PSP years after Jak X came out and I maybe didnt unlock all the extras on the PS4 version yet :p)

Real talk: the opening cinematic for this game is the stuff of legends.

The car physics of Jax X were a thing of dreams, that was an amazing retrospective on the game Buns!

As someone who bought it to tide me over for a few weeks and for nostalgia sake, here are some pro tips. Missiles 2 shot, most the time, and can be fired from MILES AWAY without the lock on indicator or sound effect. Dark eco rockets are always death 90% of the time The smoke screen is useless and if you drive through dark eco smoke screen you insta die, but enemies won't die to it. Just keep it until you reach the next red eco. Keep your red eco weapons and throw them away just before you hit the next one to always leave traps and have a backup to deflect missiles. Keep the shield for gods sake if you're in first to save yourself from peace make. Second place can get the peace maker and insta troll whoever is in first place, even the ai can do this to you. If the peace maker is far enough back just hit the breaks and watch it gib whoever passes you lol. Also saves your shield. Deploy the sentry turret/rocket turret at the edges of a track because no One drives there, it will rack up a lot of kills. Place flame slick on turns while drifting or tight spaces for guaranteed kills too. Reverse drones and mines really work when you're getting your butt grinded by enemies. Or just plain shot at by them. Dark eco pacemaker works like the super nova. It kills anyone in front of you. And will surprise kill you a lot. The road blade, street grinder, and javelin X are the best imo Use a heavier car like the basher, hammer head or roadhog, or the anvil/boomer for rush hour. More stability when you collide. Ditch your yellow weapon if you're in first and it isnt full so you can essentially reload it. The dark eco vulcan fury is NUTS It only takes 4-5 vulcan fury shots to kill drones on death races, save your ammo Shooting and drifting is really cool when you slide sideways and shoot whoever is driving perpendicular to you and hit the turbo to take 1st back. Turbo helps stabilize your car when coming out of a drift. Hold turn, brake, and turbo to get the longest slide but press accelerate and use turbo to stop drifting. Turbo works in the air too. When using class 3 vehicles, you're going to need the breaks especially on haven city/sewer tracks. The AI scale to your speed so if you drive too well you're going to see even they are driving too fast to stop from crashing. AI are very dangerous in arenas yet allow you to shoot them while they hop and sit still lol. Turbo is get out of jail free in arenas, use it to yeet out of a hot mess. That is all for now.

People may like more Mario Kart, Crash Team Racing or Diddy Kong Racing but my heart will always have a spot for this game, man what a nostalgia trip, great video Buns.

Darter was playable as a driver lol and when you selected him he wasn’t on jaks car love the level of detail. Also if you had memory card with the older games you got the jak from that game

The soundtrack was so good because it included licensed tracks from Queens of the Stone Age. That dude screaming as Jak missiles a guy in the intro? That's Josh Homme.

If racing games ever become the next Battle Royale type of popular thing, Naughty Dog could easily do an HD remaster of this and have a strong contribution.

I can half see most characters in the Jak and Daxter series just jumping out of the car at the last second. Given some of the missions I remember from Jak 3, I wouldn't be surprised if jumping out of a speeding vehicle at the last second was Jak and friends 101. Missions in question involving a hover-car full of explosives closely followed by missiles and an otsel riding a heavily armed missile.

Actually if my memory is right, you can play as Daxter. You just need to plug in your psp that has a save file of Daxter (the psp game).

I was disappointed that Jak X wasn’t the Jak 4 I was expecting but it was a goddamn great racing game.

You mentioned Daxter not having a vehicle...now, if you had the PSP Daxter game back in the day when this was originally out for PS2, you could get the Daxtermobile. Thing is though, I'm pretty sure he was playable too after playing the game for a certain length of time? You could also unlock Pecker.

I loved the fact that the other characters in the game would tell you about the race you were about to enter and give you the lowdown on what to expect because it really cemented the idea that you were all a team, working together to save all your lives. It makes sense for Ashelin to give you advice for a race because your success means she has a better chance of not dying to poison. This game was so well done in my opinion, I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who played this game and appreciates it! Awesome video, mad props!!

I'm so glad that they finally remastered Jak X as I was kinda sad that they missed it out in the original remaster. It still amazes me to this day how much depth this game actually has when compared to many 'kart-racers', both in gameplay and story.

I just felt an intense mind shatter ing amount of hope and happiness not just finally seeing this game (which was one of my most favorite games ever) get a large amount of recognision from a great someone who I am glad I randomly found on RU-vid and will always be subscribed to now, but also because of how I can finally see an in depth review (like how someone actually felt playing this game and not just whether they thought it was fun, because of the gameplay) of how a similar player felt playing the game, why they enjoyed it so much, and everything else that did and did not stand out to them which all made the game feel like it was (in a way) real and a reality we wanted and wished we had. Could you also make a video on a very under-the-radar game called Heatseeker which I played on the Wii and found VERY exciting, fun, replayable, and Extremely Memorable?

Ahh, I remember when the servers for this were still up. I and a few others used to host regular glitch lobbies where we'd just chill with mics and clip out of the maps and do stupid glitches all day

I couldn't agree more. Jak X is one of my favorite games of all time and I have played a LOT of games! I absolutely cannot shut up about how amazing it is despite being preposterously buggy. Like, I got a demo disc for it ahead of time and started having DREAMS about playing it early! Me and a friend spent HOURS on that demo just topping eachother's scores in Death Race! It also finally gave me playable Keira which is what I always wanted. I...really like Keira. As for online play? There's something called XLinkKai which lets you hook your PS2 up to your computer to play against people on non-Sony servers but I haven't messed with it. "Find a way to play Jak X online" has been on my backlog for a while. Oh and as for the Hot Coffee scene? That was for me...kinda. I *REALLY* wanted to know how Tess was coping with being an Ottsel suddenly and the fact that she isn't in the main story disappointed me so...I guess the Hot Coffee scene is the best I am gonna get.

there’s actually one way you can counter the peacemaker without the use of the shield, because it always locks onto the player in first place you can slip back into 2nd place and it will change target and lock onto whoever takes 1st place from you

A random fun fact, is that in multi-player, if you unlock and play Daxter, and someone else plays as Jak, Daxter won't be on Jak's vehicle.

The most fun thing about this game is that you can buy videos with how the animation was put together. Me and my friend laugh our asses off with the video about how the intro cinematic was put together. When jak fires a rocket to the dude in front on him, it looks like a fucking crayon with a "WOW" afterwards. Best. Part. Ever.

Aww who doesn't love Jak with a gold medal, it's amazing. This review is awesome. I've been looking for videos like this that talk good stuff of your childhood games, it's from 2018 that's odd that until now it's been revealed to me; leaving the guess that there are incredible videos around RU-vid what have been under covered, still are really good. From all the characters in videogames i think, Jak is the one [Gets completely immolated in a car explosion] "W O A H"-Jak] that can say he's tenacious.

My theory on the constant 'deaths' in Jak X is teleportation. The games have established that teleportation is a thing, so I just assumed the cars have a system installed which teleports the driver to safety the moment before they explode, allowing them to get into a new car and be teleported back onto the track.

I remember all the countless hours my younger brother and I put into this game. All those times we both would beat the game and delete our saves just to experience it all over again. We don't play too many games together any more but when they remade Jak X we actually spent the whole day together playing this again. I was disappointed they didn't have online though because I would have loved to play against some other fans of the series. Thanks so much for making this video. This series deserves to reach as many people as possible.

I mean...the Super/Stellar nova is kinda designed to be OP. It's literally the pity weapon for piss poor drivers since it spikes in pickup chance the farther behind you are, maxing out if you stay in last place for more than 10 seconds.

I've been on a side quest to find the exact kind of racing game I'm looking for, and man, from the looks of this video, this series comes darn close, great vid!

Daxter does have his own vehicle, you have to have a saved file from the "Daxter" psp game, go to the secrets menu, connect the psp to the ps2, select "scan for secret characters" and you get his car (also unlocks characters from "Daxter") also played this game until my eyes were fighting to stay open, love the video

This was originally a reply to SuperButterBuns' pinned comment, but I feel it should be shared with all, so I'm re-posting for more visibility: On the PS4 port, you can unlock the Ratchet: Deadlocked content by having save data from Ratchet and Clank (2016) on your hard drive. You can unlock the Daxter content by having save data from Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on your hard drive. You can unlock the Jak 1-3 content the same way as before, with saves from their respective PS4 ports on your hard drive.

The Javelin I remember was just the absolute best car out of em all, so perfect and so badass lookin too

I got this game on the PS2 back in the day and it kept kicking my ass, but it was a blast to play so I kept coming back to it. Also you could play as Ratched in some fun crossover potential with Ratchet: Deadlocked. I am still looking forward to the big crossover between Ratchet, Jak and Sly. No, not the PS Move thing. Or the Battle Royale thing. I'm talking a full-on game starring the three.
