Lol I'm one of the few that did blink and then John was like "I caught it" and I was like caught what? 😂 It's great that he doesn't edit out funny normal messes and mistakes like that :D
I didn’t notice it until I saw the comments because I was still on high from the thumbnail of the big, luscious, slice of my favorite cake. I won’t confirm but I may have actually been dancing through that moment.
He didn't drop it. The cake was planning its greatest escapade ever and _epically_ failed. The spatula was trying to escape as well but welp, got caught in the act.
John I just love your transparency. Any baker knows “things” happen in the kitchen and you don’t shy away from them. You’re special at what you do! I love all your recipes!
made this cake, but I added yogurt instead of buttermilk, and 4 whole eggs instead of separating, it turned out really good and finished in one night, thank you for the recipe :)
Did- did you just pretend that the cake slice didn't almost run away from you and you caught it back? I knew you were keeping my cake hostage. Now hush and just hand it over to me and I'll keep quiet about this matter. 🤤
I made this cake this morning and it is superb! Frosting not too sweet. I love swiss and italian buttercream but they take a little too long to make at times. This frosting was done in 10 mins. Love 'Preppy Kitchen' - John's enthusiasm for his dishes shines thru every video. Thank u
Usually the food is so perfect it's unreal with his perfection seeing the little drops and spills in this episode makes him even more endearing... Also that buttercream is crazy strong I love it
I would like to mention about your diy cake strip video. I was floored how perfect and leveled they came out. For someone that's a novice to baking, it definitely made me feel like an expert. 😆
I've been *obsessed* with researching yellow cake recipes for the last two weeks...so this video comes at a great time. Definitely needed John's input on the topic :D
I've made this twice so far with half the amount of powdered sugar (~200g only) for the buttercream, and it was definitely still sweet. I really appreciate the recipes! Thank you!!!
Oh my gosh!! My dad really wants yellow cake so I was going to bake some for him for Father’s Day but I was really sad you didn’t have a yellow cake video so as I continued to research recipes I freaked out because you uploaded this right on time for me! You’re amazing John, you’re my go-to when it comes to baking! Totally gonna try your recipe for Father’s Day, thank you!!
I just saw this recipe and had to make it. My dad loves yellow cake with chocolate frosting since he was a kid so I used this recipe and made it in a sheet cake just as he likes it and it was delicious. Just like how he remembered it! Thank you so much for the wonderful recipe
When I was a kid my parents made me this cake for every last one of my birthdays until I was in high school. I love it so much, so simple and so delicious! Especially with some sprinkles and some strawberry ice cream!
I made this cake today, and it turned out awesome! I used King Arthur cake flour instead of AP flour and cornstarch, and it was so light and fluffy. This is such an excellent recipe, and the chocolate buttercream is to die for! Now, on to the Funfetti cake! Thanks John, keep up the amazing work, you're the BEST!!!
@@alaura5147 I used 2 1/2 cups of cake flour. The recipe calls for 2 1/4 cups of AP flour and 1/4 cup of cornstarch. Since I used cake flour instead of AP and cornstarch, I used 2 1/2 cups. It's a really good recipe, I hope you give it a try!
Thank you Preppy Kitchen...the cake turned out DELICIOUS...AND the recipe is enough to make a shorter 9" cake...made your vanilla buttercream (another video)...also appreciated that recipe made enough to easily cover the cake.
John gives useful tips that _really_ elevate your baking skills. I like to know *why* I’m doing something not just being told to do it then being left wondering why my baking doesn’t look anything like the pros.
If a pro baker like you makes these simple mistakes (dropping the cake from the plate, flour on the mixer, etc), it totally vindicates my Easy Bake Oven level of proficiency to make the baking mishaps that I make. I feel such baking power now ! Thank you for this video. Always enjoy watching you. 🤩
I LOVE the fact that he uses his old cake strips. To see something has been used and loved so much really sold me on them. It’s also a breath of fresh air to see something that feels real and genuine instead of picture perfect
I’ve tried three of your recipes now and I’ve had people so impressed with them!!! Your recipes are absolutely delicious, I would love to see a Rum Cake from you my all time fav!!!
Tripled the recipe for three 9 inch pans. This recipe is a dream🤤. So delicious and moist even after an hour in the oven. Thank you to John, the best baker on you tube💛🧡❤️
I made this cake twice and people LOVED IT Currently making a cupcake version with berry fruits, but added yogurt instead of buttermilk.... batter was delicious!! Cant wait to eat them!
Same here! Yesterday I asked my husband what he wanted for a Father's Day dessert. Guess what he asked for? Thanks so much for posting!!!! How did you know :)
I really appreciate how you leave in the little mishaps and spills and whatnot. I feel a bit better about my own clumsy accidents when I know I'm not the only one who has "whoopsies" on occasion :)
Thanks for baking what I like baking, john. If I can't do it the next best thing is watching you do it. Lucky for me I'm always way ahead on my baking supplies so I was so lucky because the last ten trips to my grocery store was bare of flour, sugar and baking powder. Keep it up. Cheers!
Nah, I have drool enough to cover my laptop.... ewwww. Is John ever going to give us a break and make something awful? No such luck... work, work, work.
Hey John! I'm from Brazil and I'm doing some of your recipes during the quarantine... it has been an awesome experience to bring the American bakery to our table. I'm really enjoying the opportunity to get to know better one of the greatest cuisines in the world without leaving home! Thank you so much for that :)
My favorite cake, yellow with chocolate frosting. Thank you John, for a great video. I can't imagine baking a cake without using the cake-strips. The best baking tip ever!
Thank you John, my little one has a hard time to go to sleep and your Voice is so calming he finally made it while we were listening to you. I made your chocolate cupcakes 2 days ago and it was delicious, I try this cake the next time
Could you be any more adorable?!?!? I just watched your video and I'm excited to try your yellow cake. My Dad asked for a yellow cake/chocolate frosting and I've been on the hunt for the perfect one. So, super excited to try it. Also excited I found you because your cakes are gorgeous and I want to try ALL of them! Also great, and useful tips. Thank you!!!!!
I laughed so hard on your dropping off the cake, you are definitely my favorite RU-vidr John. And the cake ist perfect, I'll try to make it for my family this weekend. Tnx
Over confidence doesn't always pay off with gravity as the enemy. Not to mention your yummy 3 story cake looks like wispy chocolate clouds of pure heaven. Thanks John.
Every single time i tell myself I'm gonna start my diet i end up watching one of your videos and recreating the dish for myself 😂😂 not complaining though
OMG! Who knew John had cat like reflexes. Among the many reasons we love you John is that you don't edit these great, funny, human moments out of your videos. You leave them in to let's us know that it's okay if things go wrong. It's not the end of the world. Thanks for sharing yourself with us. It brings a lot of us a small amount of happiness.
John, I was introduced to you on you tube by my teacher... I love how you tell us how you do them!!! So far, everyone is enjoying what I do the best with all those cakes. I just want you to slow down, even though you laugh it off I am going to continue to follow you because you are the BEST!!!!
