I've used Alumilite and it yellows in the bottle, in storage, away from any light source. Thank you for testing this. I just placed an order using your 10% of code and the shipping was free!

I had been using Art Resin also and I had picked many finished coasters prior to a move. Those boxes didn’t get unpacked for two years until I had enough studio space to unpack them. In a closed box in a pile of closed boxes I was dismayed to see that any coasters that had white or clear areas had definitely yellowed with no sunlight at all. The coloured areas didn’t show any yellowing. I’m definitely going to try jdiction next. I thing I will choose opaque colours and top coat the yellowed ones to restore them. I will use my existing Art Resin on projects without clear or white areas.
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady Год назад
So sorry to hear that . Yes most people notice it when on white may be with all resins. So when you say top coat you mean with a colored resin. Thats a good idea.

Tish from Naptime Creations always adds a drop of sky blue alcohol ink to avoid yellowing. Maybe jdiction has a new formula.

I’ve used resin for years, I’ve only seen fading in my pieces is when I’ve used Ranger Alcohol ink, the inks fade out even on Yuba paper. I personally don’t have problems with other Tim Holtz products just the Ranger inks. Resin Ive used, Total boat, Stone coat, K&S resin, Alluminite, Clear Cast, Let’s Resin. I rarely used straight clear resin, if I’m going to be using clear I had an a very tiny drop of blue ink. (I use Let resin ink) To keep yellowing away. Very nice experiment you provided.
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady Год назад
Thank you! Yes that was the other experiment from Steve McDonald with alcohol inks and he found that after 6 months the lets resin alcohol inks did not fade. As far as yellowing Lets resin resin did just as well as the J Diction resin. I think besides the resin you use it sounds like adding a drop of blue may be the trick.

You are welcome. So which J diction resin do you use I didn't realize that I was buying one that could be demolded in 4 hours ( It really takes about 6) and cures in 24. Is that the one you use for your projects?
@nancypedersen7027
@nancypedersen7027 Год назад
@@crazyglasslady I use the same one you are demonstrating. I find I can usually demold it after 6-8 hrs safely, depending on the temperatures in my room. Also the thickness makes a difference. I’ve even used this project for pours up to 1 1/2”-2”. I don’t do that often anymore since I strictly do glass art now. In the past I have made pyramids.

Wow!! I’d just switched to ArtResin due to recommendations from you and another lady I follow. I’ve never used the one that looks so good in this video, but I’ll definitely try it. I honestly didn’t care for the smell of the ArtResin or the amount of bubbles it had anyway!! I’d truly hate for anything that I’ve sold to yellow on a customer.
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady Год назад
Yes well I truly like Art resin but I thought if I could cut down on the chance of yellowing over the years that would be great. And I was shocked when I saw the video from Steve McDonald.

Very informative video! I haven't gotten into resin work yet, I want to but funds are low lol. But I am an artist and I learned the adding blue tip and wondered if that would work, thanks for confirming it could! Also purple can work too, at least with paint from my experience. I've used a very very minute amount of purple in my white paints that aren't as white as I would like.
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady Год назад
Well I really think that resin is just not meant to be outside in the Florida heat and sun unfortunately. And yes resin can be expensive but if you want to try a glass art project with Mod Podge insted of resin which is of course cheeper I have several done with Mod Podge and several with resin that could be done with mod Podge. The dolphin with all the glass in that pic were all attached with silicone.

For an outdoor resin that stays clear for a long time, I would recommend trying the deep pour Wisebond Resin (I haven't tried the others from that same brand).

No I have never used it but I looked it up and it looks like you can use it to cover just about anything. It does say it has a 30 min work time so you may want to use it for smaller quick projects and then get something else with a longer work time.

Thank you so much for doing this. Does the JDiction seem blue after curing? Like you said, I’m thinking the blue is to counteract yellowing. If it cures clear and not blue, it’s definitely a winner.
