To the comments ragging on Baylor... Will Kennedy is literally one of the Greatest Drummers who has ever lived. And this is "his" band.. Marcus taking over his seat is comparable to another drummer taking over for Stewart Copeland in the Police . And he managed to do it for 10 years.. There are a only a Handful of Cats that could pull that off..
Well said and I agree! William Kennedy has been one of my favorite drummers since I first heard the YJ's in the late 80's (also Jimmy Haslip one of my favorite bassists), and frankly I loved the new energy and musical interpretation Marcus brought to them during his tenure. Likewise I feel the other fellows were inspired by him as well, as evidenced in this video!
That's not the left handed Jimmy Haslip playing bass in this set? Sure looks like him to me and what are the chances someone looking like him being left handed too?
@@stephengaribaldi1378 Yes this is Jimmy playing here, the comment refers to his departure not long after William rejoined the group (also not long after this performance). I'm grateful to have seen them live many times with my bass hero JH, fortunately with both Marc Russo and with Bob Mintzer!
Yes they are, I love Jimmy and miss him, but there great with him and without him, Same with Russo, I loved him bigtime but Bob is awesome too, GREAT GROUP ❤
When you get picked up by a Monster Collection of Musicians and you wound up on a Show in your Hometown, lemme know how unexecited you stay on your instrument :) Baylor is a Baddass, otherwise, they would'a called you, right?
And, fyi: my Fusion Band has opened for YJ's and our Drummer was like he had maybe smoked a bowl of something the whole damn night. I had to play Bass before one of my Lifetime Bass Idols. Imagine how difficult-yet-done my night was.
Mintzer has deeper ‘jazz chops’ than Russo; Russo is great for ‘smooth jazz’ and R&B - BUT if you want John Coltrane, Bird, Coleman Hawkins - Bob Mintzer is the man!
I also disagree.... listen and you will hear that the other guys get to learn and stretch and try new stuff.... And (to me) it sounds like they enjoy it!
