My niece and her husband just left there yesterday morning. I'm so thankful they missed all of it. Stay safe! I am blown away by the snow!! It's 97° f here in the Midwest.
Can you believe how hot it is and always this too shall pass. I can handle 80's without the humidity, but 97 to 105 with humidity. Then we will get storms and then it settles down until the next time. Stay safe.
@@wyomingadventures That to can change, it could be in the 90's thereto also. But in the Midwest right now we are suffering with the humidity. That is worse than the temperature. We should be used to it, but it does not happen all the time. Prayers to both you and your mom.
Thanks for your updates within Yellowstone park. I hope you find fuel so you can travel and keep us all updated about what's happening within that area and are keeping safe.
I worked at Mammoth for 2years-1956-1957! Worked as a waitress in the lodge. When I arrived in June-both years-it was snowing! But no catastrophe from the Gardiner River! That’s awful! Used to go drink beer in Gardiner and sing with “Bloody Mary”! Anyone remember her? Pretty good memory for a “great grandma”- don’t you think?
We live just South of the West Yellowstone entrance. Nature is so powerful and cares little for your vacation plans or tourism in general. If your worried about the animals they'll be just fine in fact they'll thrive!! Yellowstone is not a zoo, animals are wild and free to roam in and out of the park at their discretion into Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. They're gonna love this summer!
They animals will love the fact there are few to no tourists hounding them...lol Fools chasing them around with iPhones trying to get a Tiktok video or Instagram selfie while they are trying to eat and raise their young. The rain and water will bring an explosion of green and plant life which will be beautiful and beneficial.
Boy, I used to spend A LOT of time out there,(Yellowstone and the tetons) but it's been awhile, seeing the area and especially the snow in June makes me homesick, sure glad that I discovered your channel yesterday! I'm subscribed now
Yes, indeed! Oh, to be so lucky!!! I worked 6 summers and 3 winters in Yellowstone and the closest i had the park to myself was Feb. 1989 when if got to be -60 below for one week at Mammoth. Fond memories!!!
I actually just left Yellowstone one day before it was shut down, when the day u left it was cold and the rain was very heavy. I was very lucky to be able to escape Yellowstone just in time. I generally hope that people that are trapped there get out soon and safely.
I appreciate the update. We were scheduled to begin our drive from California on June 22nd. It looks like we may have to plan this for another time, unfortunately. We had cabin reservations near the West Entrance. Thank you and be safe.
I would wait and see. We should know more in the coming days. West Yellowstone was not really affected much by this that I have heard at this point in time. Most of the areas of the park that you want to see are on the lower loop and its the upper loop that is affected more based on news reports.
@@shill3282 I think I may just do that and wait. I hope they re-open the park and we can proceed with our planned vacation but hope things get better for people around there. Thank you.
So concerning how the weather is shifting and becoming so extreme.. here in AZ it's record heat and no rain for I don't even know how many months. I don't remember the last rainy day.
One of the problems with Yellowstone is it's size, which makes each junction/community/stores isolated from one another. I can imagine a half-dozen spots in the park with exactly the same problems you're having. Thanks for the update. It's fascinating to see what the park is going through tight now...
Thanks for the YPS update. We stayed at Mammoth Hot Springs on 6/11, Gardiner on 6/12 and supposed to stay at the Grant Village on 6/13 but we were stranded in Gardiner MT. We saw the flooding water, washed out roads, and a house. It was unreal. Finally we can leave Gardiner MT today. Our vacation plan has been changed . We are going to Idaho and back to Salt Lake City. Luckily we will catch our flight back to California
I'm in a campground at the Westgate entrance of Glacier National Park but we were there 6 days ago and we spent 8 days at Yellowstone.. so glad we got to experience it but we feel terrible of what's going on. We loved Gardener Montana . We stayed on the campground right on the river where the house went into the water. We also went down the Yellowstone river Rapids with flying Pigs and cannot believe how devastated the town and surrounding areas are. We called Patrick from the flying pigs today and we're glad to hear they're all OK. Praying for the whole situation.
I’d love to see what Yellowstone falls looks like! Gibbon and other areas I’m familiar with were unrecognizable in another post. Thanks for posting, and stay safe.
Thanks for the update @Park Junkie! Stay safe, and the fact that you work at the park will help clarify a lot of questions people had yesterday about why you were still there. :)
As long as no one gets injured, I say GOOD! That place is WAY too developed. I used to hang out there in the 70s 80s and 90s. Went back last year and it was a zoo. "Online reservations only" for campgrounds???!!! Give me a break. After this flooding rebuild the place minimally. Make camping first come first served. Keep the roads gravel. And ban those snowmobiles! Give the animals a break.
Good morning and thank you for your updates 😊. Our hearts and prayers are with you and all those affected by this flood. Praying that no lives are lost. We Love Yellowstone. So sad to see what is happening. We just discovered your channel yesterday and LOVE it. Subbed and looking forward to your next report. Stay safe.
I can top that…we are over 100 in Coachella Valley CA🌴🌵🌴☀️☀️☀️. I’m blown away by the footage…so grateful that we went last Sept for 8 nites - for my first time. Great birthday gift!!!
UPDATE ! ! ! The southern loop of Yellowstone NP opened up today, Wednesday June 22nd, at 8:00 a.m. MST. They hope to have the upper loop open in a couple of weeks. When they do open the upper loop, no driving past Mammoth Hot Springs north, nor driving past Tower Junction going east. I haven't heard about Roosevelt Lodge opening, yet it is the smallest location and usually opens for lodging/food last. If you haven't tried the restaurant there, you ought to do it at least once. They are famous for BBQ ribs and their famous beans!!!
Un-freakin-belivable! Living in PA, the weather never fluctuates that much. We had thunder storms this morning. If it had done what you were dealing with, people would be thinking second coming. Lol Stay safe, my friend!
In pa. It snowed every month of the year in Early 1800s. Earth has a 200 year cooling cycle that lasts for 5-10 years and we are due for one. Not good timing for a food shortage though.
Except it gets very cold in January- March 30s to single digits at times, then it rains in March- September. High temperatures have been in PA this month, 90-98 degrees last week .
The lake hotel was my first job in Yellowstone, got promoted to room inspector. Ran into a high school classmate at a square dance at the lake lodge, turned out she was working the soda fountain at fishing bridge. Had adventures with her hiking up to the sulfur hills once, great memories of that season.
We got snow in the surrounding mountains last night and sleet locally today up here in the Blackfoot Valley with a high of 46. Friday it's supposed to hit 90 degrees!
My husband and I were there in 2019 and I asked my husband is it snowing ,he said yes , it was on Fathers Day weekend. It's beautiful there, I still have all my pictures and looking at them now. So sad what happened. Everyone be safe and careful. God bless everyone. ❤
WoW! Excellent report on current conditions. Appreciate the update of the ongoing crisis there. I'm glad you're there with fellow employees, but I'm worried about you guys. I hope you stay safe. This is scary stuff.
It's horrible. I'm about to melt. I was planning to go to Yellowstone. That's changed. Don't forget that this is just the beginning of summer. It will get worse. People who aren't from Ohio have no idea how hot it can get here.
Lol. Getting up to 97 degrees in Northeast Illinois today. Can also get down to -20. Nothing new, it happens. You just have to live in one place a long time to figure out that the weather sometimes just sucks where you live. Come back in six months, and you can complain about having to shovel your car out of the snow. You'll appreciate the heat you're getting now! 😁
DON'T WORRY, I LIVE IN LIVINGSTON, MONTANA, AT 80, I HAVE NEVER SEEN FLOODING LIKE THIS, A DISASTER FOR YELLOWSTONE'S SUMMER!! BUT, IN NO TIME, IT WILL BE HOT AND EVERYTHING TURNS BROWN OVER NIGHT, LAST YEAR IT WAS THE FIRES, THAT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN!! MOTHER NATURE CAN BE CRUEL AND RULES!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE FALLS IN YELLOWSTONE RAGING LIKE THEY ARE!! THE HUGE EMPLOYEE HOUSING FELL OFF INTO THE YELLOWSTONE!! WHY THE HELL PEOPLE BUILD ON A MOUNTAIN OR SO CLOSE TO A RIVER, I WILL NEVER KNOW!! THE RIVER ATE UP THE BANK UNDER THIS COMPLEX!! IN THE LITTLE TOWN OF RED LODGE, IT LOOKS LIKE THE PEOPLE BUILT IN THE RIVER, SO SAD!!
50,000 cfs in Yellowstone River is amazing. The north entrance road looks washed out in many places - can't imagine that entrance being opened for a long time. Be safe!
Road through Lamar likely closed for summer '22 Cam Sholly park superintendent just said the road from Gardiner to Cooke City likely won’t be rebuilt this summer. ( this is the road at the north end of the park running east west. ). This likely won’t affect the lower loop of the park and the entrances from Cody, West Yellowstone or Jackson. 80 % of the parks thermal features including old faithful etc are on the lower loop.
I grew up not far from Yellowstone, I can remember it snowing on the fourth of July, us kids were all bummed out because we couldn't shoot off our fireworks....long time ago 😁
Karina Byerly, you're another person that is "wet behind your ears". If did your homework and investigate where does it snow every month in the United States, you would never make that comment in the first place.
@@AtarahDerek snow in June??????? Just Tuesday I hardly think so. I live in norther Arizona & have lived in Wyoming. Snow doesnt happen in June. Especially when days earlier it had been record heat! It’s not the French Alps!
Hey, Junkie. I am glad you are showing us the beauty of YNP when there are no tourists. Waaay different. My family lives nearby and we've made plans to meet up on the Fourth of July, hopefully. We pray 🙏🏻 washed out roads and the bridge near Gardiner can be rebuilt soon. Hang in there, take in the beauty and listen to the silence. 🙏🏻 Praying everyone stays safe.
If you can find out what's happening at Mammoth Hot Springs dorm, please share. My girl is a culinary intern there. Her phone is dead or dying. No power. Thanks!
Furnace was running last night here. Supposedly we are going to get up in the 80s and 90s by Friday. The creeks and rivers are going to be roaring again with those temperatures. There's still a deep snow pack in the mountains. More spring run off to come unfortunately. Be safe everyone if you're in the area. I had to stop a group of guys from California in life jackets from jumping into our town creek. Don't know what they were thinking. Ice cold roaring water. Yikes!
I'm currently in Canyon Village. The rv park does have power, but no other power to the stores, or gas station. Was lucky enough that in an employee chat, it was mentioned to go and fuel up last night while there was still power. Management for the company I work for has been 100 percent silent, with no communication.
Wow, I wouldn’t have thought about snow at this time of year but then again in the Arizona desert where I live this time of year we are pushing above 100F 😎
GOOD. Best thing thats ever happened to Yellowstone. No people, trucks, bus's, motorcycles, campers......etc. Its should be an annual thing now. Park closes memorial day. NICE.
Springtime in the Rockies. Or, as many call it, Mud Season. Most people don't realize these temp fluctuations are par for the course in the Rockies. Stay safe.
I WAS an employee the last year AMFAC held concessions!(porter@ $6.50/hr) in 2000 then a few other seasons mostly in canyon village but I've helped at lake, mammoth and old faithful( walked through a group sleeping bison on a foggy morning to the E.D.R!) I AM DEVASTATED WITH THE FLOODING HAPPENING THERE!! ITS HEART BREAKING BECAUSE THE PARK HAS BEEN SO SPECIAL TO ME AND MY WIFE FOR OVER 20 YEARS!!!
My son is there working in housekeeping at Roosevelt. I heard from him last night and he said the power was out and his phone was about to die. Do you know where they've taken the workers? Or the condition of the Roosevelt area? Thanks!
I would think that rather than take a chance on them having working gas pumps plus running gas out of your truck for potentially no reason (if they don't) that you would call the station down there, or at least try, to find out in advance if you'll be able to get gas.
