Fun Video! I've actually been using CC for a while now. BTW, I cut the black obsidian with the LaserMATIC 10W, no problem! I focus 2mm below the surface.
Nice! I had written off Acrylic so I will have to get used to doing it again. I ended up with some strange spots (cuts?) in my laser cover. Luckily I have some spare. It just seemed to be reflecting in some strange way (the Obsidian). BTW, how many passes with a 10w?
@@ValleyForged 1 pass, 250 mm/min on the LaserMATIC 10. Here's a video where I made an earring: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p2luXgCai5I.html Skip to 11:15
I made a motel key chain with my 6w glowforge spark and black acrylic. I tried to attach a photo here, but can't figure out how to do it! Anyway, I sprayed the black acrylic with gold spray paint first, then engraved/cut it. It turned out awesome!
What glue do you use to adhere acrylic to wood? And then acrylic and wood to metal bottle opener? If the "force" (when using the bottle opener) doesn't cause the glue to fail, I'm impressed. [It sounds like I've made the same trek from the good old K40, to CO2 to diode laser, and thus your observations and shared experiences are spot on for me.]
For the wood to metal I use superglue, and it IS NOT coming off. As for the Acrylic, I sand it first then use superglue. If you don't it may come apart. I will see if I can make a video on it.
I have a 20 watt optical and just rrecently purchased some colored acrylic to experiement with, various colors. Based on your video where you say 280mm/m @ 100% 2 passes, I will do my first shot at about 200mm/m @ 80%, 3 passes and see what I get. Thanks for this video. I am wishing I had a 60W RF laser with a 15" x30" workspace.
@ValleyForged I run a 450cfm through a merv14 and a 6inch carbon filter outside. Kills most of all the wood burn but I am just running it out of my garage door, on the ground floor. Neighbors probably wouldn't appreciate my cutting it. 😭
Would I be able to cut that Iced Leche Shell Acrylic from Craftcloset? It's a light color but it's not white-white. I know the Diode Laser has a problem with cutting clear and white colors. I haven't tried it as yet but I would hate to mess up this sheet.
Get a cheap set of dental or weeding tools for the weeding. It is a lot easier when weeding to have the right tools, a craft knife isn't the best for the smaller areas.
Hi! I have a question for you since you have experience with Lasers! Could the xtool 40w S1 be used for cutting acrylic? My goal is to do acrylic signs/decor, acrylic accessories and engraving stainless, steel, custom stationary, jewelry, and possibly glass. Would that laser work for those types of projects?
It will work on most, but beware of the bed size. That you cannot change. And pass through or rollers are mostly a gimmick. Get the right size bed for what you want to make
I misread this comment. The S1 is a diode laser, it will only cut the ones Diode Laser ready like the ones I mention in the video. You want the C02 version for cutting all acrylic. I thought you were asking about that one. Sorry!!
Nice video, but I wish you would have shown some of your samples being engraved. I have no idea how you got 2 colors on the keychain, it would have been nice to see you actually make one.
Unless you see it as 'diode laser ready' it probably will not work. I love working with gold mirror, but it is expensive. I won't waste the money unless I fine a diode ready one.
Co2 Laser does it just great. Make sure you get one that has a large enough bed as you cannot make it larger. I don't think any diode laser will do it.
