You can call it 17/8 or alternating 7/8 and 10/8, but I notice the easiest way to count in performance is to break it into 3 counts and 4 counts. This seems to break it into 4/8, 3/8, 4/8, 3/8, 3/8 repeat. That actually gives you a count based on melodic cues and accents so you can "feel" it better. So the count would be like, 12341231234123123 might feel more like it syncs up to the music.

Perfect! I really enjoyed your playing, thanks for sharing... It's all there, great feel, great sound... Talent! You did justice to this awesome classic "drummers song". This came out when I was about fourteen years old, I would play it on this thing called a record album, for my father, who's now passed away. He would watch me perform this, and he would say "I really like that one".... Thanks man, this reminded me of some great moments with my dad. God bless you...

I would say the intro and outro is a syncopated 7/8+10/8 melody, which means it begins with a 7/8 bar, then a 10/8, then a 7/8, and so forth. I count the intro and outro rhythm like this: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 (repeat). The melody is syncopated, but if you count like that you always land on the first beat of every bar. I had to listen to the song a couple of times in order to crack the code, so I think if you listen to the song a couple of times it'll be easier for you to learn:)

Nice one - such a great song to master - it's a very challenging work in terms of skills and timing and unfolds like a story, it's not just a basic beat with a few fills here and there. Did you ever try combining the high hat and snare on the build up at 0:30 - 0:58 and again at 1:04???

Thank you for your kind words! I love your video, NFS Underground 2 is such a beautiful game. My grandma does a lot of knitting, but I don't really think I'm cut out for it. My hands are too clumsy.

Thanks man! I'm actually using a condenser mic set up just to the left of my face, pointing towards the snare and hats. That, and a bass drum mic. It's a pretty scanty two-mic set up, I was surprised with the sound!
