R.i.p Alan White, came here today because I wanted to watch this performance once again in memory of Alan, this is probably my favorite Yes song. A magical journey.
I remember a quote from Rick Wakeman, when he was playing in a current YES lineup. He said "I like to think that YES is an entity larger than any one of its lineups. I like to think that there will still be a YES, long after we are all dead and buried.
The last credible line up of Yes before they slipped into the realms of a tribute act. Benoit was a great fit for this band, shame it never lasted. Superb performance.
There's an interview with Benoit in Rolling Stone (?) from a couple of years ago -- he admits that it wasn't working out. But this is a great performance, no argument there.
Not Cool for Trevor Horn and Geoffrey Downes but the live from 1980/1981 weren’t filmed with good sound quality but of course with the digital sound everything sounds cleaner
@@MrJeremy9835 Yes has described themselves as an ongoing orchestra with ever changing band members. Yes have refined their performances of some pieces through the decades regardless of who is in the band. A good example is there are some sublime performances of Awaken without Wakeman and Gates of Delirium without Moraz. If Yes stuck to some rule of not playing a piece of music without the members who played it originally, they would have ceased to exist 50 years ago.
Brilliant! Fascinating! Benoit David had a great presence on stage and definitely a wonderful and high level voice. He deserved much better than such a short popup in Yes .
According to Chris, he left because he didn’t like the lifestyle and touring. It kept him away from his family too much. But he is a far superior vocalist to Jon Davison.
Totally agree. Since the day it came out I've said to myself - this shouldn't maybe be regarded as a Yes album. But then I say - it sounds like a Yes album - and that means high praise.......Hats off to Mr Horn for a quite ridiculously stellar career. Not just a brilliant producer in various guises - but also lead singer for a while of the greatest band ever.
I was lucky enough to see Yes "In the Present" in Milwaukee in 2009 and it was awesome!! Benoit David was perfect! He is the second best Yes vocalist after THE voice of Yes, Jon Anderson. And Oliver Wakeman was great, too. I had also seen Yes "In the Round" in San Diego in 1980 when Trevor Horn sang lead and Geoff Downes was the keyboardist. My friends and I were only 3 rows back!
Benoit was the best Jon replacement singer the band ever had. I regret not giving him the time of day when he was a member and am disappointed that he retired from music. His band was awesome.
I was fortunate to see 4 concerts this tour! Was really great meeting the band(again😊), Knowing I was seeing Yes without Jon or Rick…I went in with different expectations. Benoit was able to be himself performing songs from Drama -and Not having to “measure up” to Jon Anderson. I think Benoit did a great job and meeting him and and Oliver -was memorable! Both Gents were very humble and appreciative of the fans wonderful support this tour!❤ Great energy between the band this tour!🥰
The album this was not very well received by "critics" (failed musicians) however, with songs like this ? Are you kidding me ?? I bought it and though it was great !!! VIVA YES !! RIP Squire !!
Magnificent version of Machine Messier………which is to be expected from Chris Steve and Alan, but, my goodness Benoit and Oliver were right up to Yes standard too. Thanks for posting.👍
bought this album when I was 17 :) loved it. my older brother said "this is not YES" :). aged amazingly well. as i am hearing it now, I noticed how this track in particular and the album resemble to PINK FLOYD welcome to the machine. anyway what a preformenc and sound is amazing.
I could not agree more with Rick. YES is not at the level of a disposable pop act, like Hanson or New Kids On The Block. They are truly an institution, like The Chicago Symphony Orchestra or The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. LONG LIVE YES! 😀
Always loved Steve's guitars, like the steel on SOON, and Chris has DEEPest BASS, modified and still outstanding like YES always is. I was so lucky to catch Roundabout your but today love videos just as much.
Benoit and Oliver nailed their respective parts here. I was lucky enough to see them shine onstage in London. It’s a real shame that both were unceremoniously ousted from the band. Thankfully the release of “From A Page” (well done to Oliver for sorting that out) gave a brief taste of what COULD have been had both men were able to stay in the band. Genuinely a real loss. This performance proves it.
Great performance of that classic. The Benoit/Squire duet in the acoustic part is cool, with Benoit on the lower notes. Oliver's Moog with a bit of extra "portamento" is also a nice vibe near the end.
probably the best live version i have seen and heard over the many changes in YES over the years since my discovery of the band in london in 1974...yes music has been a staple of my life since then,
