“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.
Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall;
don’t be happy when they stumble.
For the Lord will be displeased with you
and will turn his anger away from them.
Don’t fret because of evildoers;
don’t envy the wicked.”

Plenty of people stop at the plywood tundra stage and start switching. This scenery adds tons of realism.

To avoid having to put down blades of grass with tweezers individually, I lay them down 20 at a time with 20 tweezers glued together 😉

I’ve used rubbing alcohol for helping to spread a water and glue 60/40 mix for the glue and water. When you put down the glue sometimes it pearls and the alcohol helps spread the mix. I put the alcohol in a fine spray bottle you can find at a dollar store

Great video. Be sure to glue that finishing powder down even if it's with hair spray. Then clean the track if you didnt mask it. These locos are like lil dust magnets.

Finally watching this series in order. And lo and behold, you built the Pikestuff building that is currently on my bench right now (although yours seems to build MUCH faster 😅 - the power of video!). Are you doing more on building construction? BTW where does one purchase those metal blocks to secure corners, weigh things down, etc? Love your easy to follow videos and techniques.

Jimmy, you mentioned using "Burnt Earth" - I believe WS makes Burnt Grass and they make Earth; I'm not aware of Burnt Earth. Based on the color, it looks like you're using Earth. Can you confirm? Personally, I prefer using Blended Turf (now I believe called Earth Blend) as my base - it's predominantly brown, but has several other colors. This avoids that monochromatic "grass mat" look. And don't stop at providing more than one color! Use a variety of textures as well. Sprinkle on some coarse turf in your chosen color to eliminate that "just mown" look.

I believe what he was using is, in fact, Earth Blend. I used a lot of it on my layout and it looks very similar. I might be wrong though.

@@michaelramsey82 There's a brief shot where you can see the container is 'Earth Blend'. It _is_ a good base coat color.

Enjoy learning the basics if your basic isn't right the rest will just not look as good. Thanks for sharing and it is really starting to come together. The engine you got looks and sounds great. GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖

Scenery is a real pain i use bottle brushes and nipple brushes for tree's and use painted parsley for bushes also i use dried tree branches for fence posts use 8mm fishing wire to make barbed wire

Another great video, Jimmy. I hope that a new model railroader will see this video before they start. I for one went out and bought a green sheet of woodland scenics grass tarp stuff., And glued it down. I ended up scraping most of the color off and using the plain beige backing as the start of my Landscape terrain. That is more common to the central valley in California. We are pretty much a desert during the summertime gets up to over 100°. So there isn’t much green to be had. Also, I like the technique you use with the cap and ballast to make a clean line so you don’t have different colors running into each other and making it look sloppy.

Hey! Great video! You've hit on some very important and noteworthy points here! Unfortunately for me, RU-vid wasn't here when I did my first layout, 2002. Now for the question! I am laying down extruded foam insulation board for my sub roadbed. I noticed you waited until you laid your track to paint it. I wanted to completely paint it with flat latex paint, before I lay down any track. Would the paint cause issues with the cork roadbed sticking properly or even staying glued down? Just curious.

Any ideas on outside setups with regard to gluing ballast? One of my kids suggested epoxy, but I think it would require about 5 litres.

You mentioned a "stay alive" function on your loco. Do you know when this function is running your loco? If not. how do you know if there is a dead spot on your track?
@stevequinn5024

Did you get my email? It was concerning this exactly but you didn’t cover it. Not trying to be disrespectful just curious. My ground cover and more so my ballast always becomes flaky. What is causing this? Thank you and love your channel.

What type/code of track did you use for this layout?
@tonykane8866

What did u call that thing in that loco that ran in the dead spots . Do they have that in the N
@DIYDigitalRailroad
@DIYDigitalRailroad Год назад
TCS originally made it as “Keep Alive” it’s added capacitance on Broadway limited. Basically it’s a capacitor that can hold a bit of charge to get a locomotive through a dead spot. They are very important on sound locos since they draw more power than a non sound decoder. They do have it for N, it’s just hard to fit in a small space.

Hi Jimmy I am building MRR1. But a side note. I have Broadway Limited engines and I have found that Kato rail cars do not couple with them. BL rail cars do but I have to use Kato engines to couple with Kato rail cars. Is this common or am I doing something wrong? New at model railroading.
