I have played guitar for 50 years, and Steve was my inspiration, this song in particular. Of course on a practical note, the band needed rest at times, even short ones, which these solos provided, considering the demanding pieces they played, and length of shows. Steve has many solo pieces, and many albums, and I love his fusion of classical, baroque, rag, country, Bluegrass, blues, jazz, and any other style that exists. A master of the pedal steel as well. I agree with you that Steve's playing elevated Yes to a level they would not have achieved without his unique style of playing. Yours Is No Disgrace, and Starship Trooper are going to blow you away. In some concerts Steve even plays Clap, with Mood For A Day imbedded in the middle!

He was one of my inspirations, too--and part of what drove me to transition into studying classical guitar and eventually going to university for it a whole lot of years ago. What I liked about his solo pieces where how they were actually compositions (even if he tended to vary them a little from night to night) rather than just playing something as fast and a loud as possible.

I think that all the bandmates truly brought the best out of themselves. Granted, Steve is also my favorite. I might be biased, though, because I'm a guitar player, and Steve was my inspiration. I liked his work even on the song Innuendo by Queen. It was a small part, but it added a lot to it. I think you should give it a listen.

Justin: "It's nice. Whaddya want from me?" 😄 Steve would vary his solo spot in these shows, sometimes doing just this or just "Clap", sometimes both, and sometimes with a bit of improvisation (usually around "Classical Gas") thrown in. He played his trusty Martin 0018 for all of it. As the 'Yessongs' film illustrates (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MwVMol1-DrY.html) he had a mike set up to capture the guitar, but at some time he also had the guitar modified with a pickup and 1/4" jack installed. He later had that removed, but you can see it in the film.

Far from bore us with endless musical interpretations, you just say it's wunnaful. Yes, Steve's the man. Although my fav. may be Jon Anderson which is a pretty angelic voice. Tied for first then. Some of it puts tension and/ or overload on you there's so much coming at you. Then you take a break...

It's a very nice guitar piece. I really like it but I prefer songs with the whole band as well.

Generally, I prefer solos no more than 5 minutes. If the solo is accompanied longer is OK as long as there is some energy to it.

Hey Justin, just started watching the channel because if you have some random Canadian music on here. I’m a fan of all rock but I sometime go looking for my Canadian stuff. -I Mother Earth….you reacted to two random songs that really isn’t them. I don’t know why people give you B sides to react to…please try “another Sunday” or Raspberry”. Or if you don’t react to them Atleast throw on in your car. All joking aside this was a fantastic album start to finish. Great band but you got some randoms

Hey Fernando, I think it was a Conde Nylon string Flamenco guitar. That's what he used in the studio. I could be wrong?

@@danarchuleta1154 This performance was definitely not played on nylon strings. It was probably played on a Martin acoustic--he tended to use 00 body guitars which gave a nice balanced sound closer to what a nylon stringed guitar would sound like--although still with the attack of the metal strings.
