RIP the three members of Yes Peter Banks (July 15, 1947 - March 7, 2013), aged 65 Chris Squire (March 4, 1948 - June 27, 2015), aged 67 Alan White (June 14, 1949 - May 26, 2022), aged 72
This was the very first song I heard on my first real HiFi stereo, in my room at 13, in 1983. I was blown straight to the Moon at the sound of that guitar intro. The seperation, the clarity, the power. There was no turning back from there. I was offically an audiophile.
Hope you have heard some of the bands fantastic earlier work, as , I'm sorry ,I couldn't stand this song , mainly cos of those stoopid synth samples in the song that bands of that era were experimenting with and seemed all the rage.. Best part , which does sound awesome,... The intro
Welcome to the club❤❤. I'm the same age as you. I still have headphones attached to my ears when it comes to music..this was such a kick ass album from start to finish❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The band gets butthurt if anyone makes mention of this version of the video. LOL. While the video is worse, the song doesn't repeat, so it's better if you want to listen to the song.

@@jasonweishaupt1828Hi I'm an artist, and not a spring chicken! I guess I should be dead by now. But many artist live a longer then most life, late 90's Peace😊
I first heard this song in Arcadia CA in January 1984 when I was a teenager visiting from Australia to march in the Rose Bowl Parade. I can still listen to this music today and it instantly transports me back in time. I really admire the vocal hook, the simple but effective bass guitar riff, the improv in the interlude and the mix of drum and guitar sounds. Long live the power of music!
One of the greatest songs ever written. No matter where I am or what I'm doing whenever I hear this song playing I stop and listen. Thank you Yes for writing such a classic song. This song holds a dear place in my heart like Broken Wings by Mr. Mister.
Explosive! Magnificent band and song. Gotta have this one on repeat. I'm 69, it's 2023 and I'm still jamming to this song and gazing at Trevor Rabin.❤😊❤❤❤
That opening guitar riff, drumming, and bass is absolutely legendary! Acknowledgement to the keyboardist! Lead vocalist has that so 1980s unique voice! This song will forever be music/rock/pop awesomeness! The decade/era of the "1980s" is eternally iconic! This awesome band/group had amazing and fantastic musicians! Respect and salute to "Yes"!
Good to hear man. But, in no way shape or form is YES an underrated band. Neck and neck with Rush for the title of greatest prog rock band of all time, at least IMHO. Cheers!

@@alukuhito Yes, right you are. And there were a lot of better songs than this one. And more than that, I agree with @Misa Velvet: Yes had made great prog rock albums in the first half of the Seventies. Why on earth did they have to play this cheap pop tune in 1983? I didn't like it back then, and I still don't like it.
@@PeterSpaeter96 I come back to this video for the visuals. I don't actually mind this music. I also like the duet the singer did with Gowan - Moonlight Desires - in the 80s, but 70s Yes was mind-blowing. You need to be in the right mood for it though. If you want something short and catchy to sing along to, better listen to something else. But, yeah, tons of crap music in the 80s. I don't even want to begin to start listing all that stuff.
@@alukuhito I think they mean that now there's so much trash on the radio(mainstream music) that it's hard to find any good melodies. The singers sing weird and the music is obnoxious. In the 80s, 90s and early 2000s there were some great on the radio. Now you have to go to you tube or dig thru Spotify to find really great artists. To hear a great mainstream masterpiece is very rare now.
2022! As a kid I used to hear this song and liked it immediately- a different sound from most of the rest, catchy hook, easy melody- as a little kid the lyrics were mostly over my head (I was 7 at the time it came out) but I wanted to hear it every time it came on! That hasn't changed. I never saw the video til very recently; though I grew up in the MTV era, we were in bed by the time MTV was in full swing (8pm, so early right?) so I never saw it as a kid.
Im left stunned with this after watching three versions now.... Nostalgia, musical genius .Timeless. Who of us would have thought that time goes by so quickly - read below that three have passed on , and mum and dad too 😪😪 🌹🌹. I couldnt believe that the Appollo 2018 version sounded so much like the studio version . These memories will remain on repeat for the rest of my days for sure
Other than wearing out their albums on cassettes, yes cassettes, and hearing their music a billion times in the 80's, I paid no attention, until a few months back because of the quarrantine, Jon Anderson started releasing enormous amounts of self produced music on his youtube channel. I happened across it and found my future. All I can say is its spiritual in message for me and its changed my life. Songs like Where Will you Be. What a fantastic journey at 54
Absolutely fantastic track , as soon as you hear the intro, you know exactly the track is going to be worth listening too , never disappoints me for sure .
I love many songs by Yes, whether it be 'Awaken,' 'Close to the Edge' or 'Love Will Find a Way.' But 'Roundabout' and 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' will always be the songs that hold a special place within me.
This is the first time I see this video for this song. Back then, the video they used for this song was totally different and not so outdated - some segments of it are also mixed into this video
I'm 24 and fairly new with the band Yes. I've grown to really love the album 'Fragile' as well as 'Closer to the edge' and I just cant wrap my mind around them being the same band that came out with this song
Greetings from Mexico, I love what I am seeing on your profile. And i apologize for jumping into your comment in such a way. I'm really looking forward to get to know you better. If you're comfortable with it, I'd love to talk somewhere outside the RU-vid comment section. and get to know each other a bit more intimately. What do you think?😊
This song changed everything in so many ways . For me it was hard to understand the way they did it because at the time it was impossible Trevor Horn did something not even the band wanted as history goes it is still one of the best productions out there.
DESCANSE EN PAZ ALAN WHITE, BATERISTA DEL GRUPO "YES". "OWNER OF A LONELY HEART" ("DUEÑO DE UN CORAZÓN SOLITARIO") EL ÉXTO MÁS GRANDE DE ÉSTA AGRUPACIÓN.
Curti demais esta música na época (tinha 23 anos).Hj aos 61,ainda curto demaiiiis!!Em plena pandemia de "terror",só estas músicas antigas se tornam tão atuais!!
My neighborhood was erected in 1983. An old high school buddy of mine had this album; Yes's 90215 in the late 1990s. I remember hearing this wonderful song on the radio in the 1980s all the time and it always got me. The riff, the singing, the message, and the playing are timeless and Yes.
Sofa king awkward. And I adore Yes. I feel like a comment down thread applies, "they got better!" (visual performance, musically these guys are so amazing)
Those were the best days, to be there alive as a teenager in the 1980s was very special and the music is unrivaled, it was the evolution of the analog masters of the 60s and 70s reaching its peak. I don't know what happened in the 1990s with the introduction of hip-hop, reggae, and rap everything went into a nosedive.
Hip-hop, reggae, and rap all pre-date the 90s. Bob Marley started in the 60s; Yellowman has been active since 1974. Hip-hop has been around since at least the 70s. I’m not sure how perfectly good genres that had been around for a while sent the 1990s, “…in a nosedive.” I was a teenager in the 90s, and my biggest problem with that decade was every record exec trying to find the next Nirvana.
I love watching Jon awkwardly move around with the tune, flicking his thumbs like he’s got nothing better to do. Give the man a mic or something to hold for christ’s sake
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal performances of PURPLE RAIN by Prince and PRAYING FOR TIME by George Michael on my YT channel in tribute to 2 of the greatest vocalist-songwriters in music history. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
This is one of the best song ever sung in the entire history of music... and we all should love it...... because it teaches, inspired, motivates, and we all experienced.... what he's singing about.
It was 37 years ago! Everyone talking how awkward and cheap it was-Geez. The music is timeless and will always be a favorite, to many from the day. Have to admit though... it's hilarious to watch
I think this was made at a time when music videos were still an afterthought. Things were still very much radio based and most people never saw the music video. As the 80's went along and the technology improved, the music video would of course become the new standard must-have feature to go with the music.
Jon's unique voice, Chris S on basso profundo ...i first heard this when i was working in France, I have been gripped ever since. Being a YES fan since the early 70's, this still rocks me as being a total one off.
Nope, this video sucked even when it first came out, especially the version with the music break and full video. They definitely look like they don't want to do the video, and they likely didn't.
