I read in an article that an imagineer watched "Bambi" after being stumped on how to remove Big Red. They realized the impact of the film was NOT seeing the mother's body and instead seeing the impact of a baby animal left alone. "Mother! Mother, where are you?" It seems that early on after opening they used dialog from the radio calls like "Big Red is down!" which is ambiguous, but still implies she was killed. Slowly they changed it so she for-sure lived. I think they could have kept mommy elephant dead out of view, instead showing Little Red tooting for her, all alone as an animatronic, even if it would have been a patch closing the ride down for a while. This stuff does happen to elephants IRL, and being the social creatures they are, they actually grieve their herd members' deaths, staying with a body for days and making unique sounds. A baby elephant all alone would be confused, but it would be less graphic yet still heartbreaking.
I wish that they had taken that approach, it would have been less graphic seeing a baby elephant motherless and all alone, have the message of poachers and not get a backlash from parents, it didn’t deserve
Eh, I still think a visible dead elephant would be more impactful. Which do more people consider to be heartwrenching, Bambi's mother's death, or Mufasa's death?
He'd be rolling in his grave to see the heavily IP based attractions that are replacing original rides... I despise the Maelstroms change... especially since it didn't bother to fix the Maelstroms original issues Walt would hate what they've done. They opted out of making interesting stories for a ride and instead take someone else's stories and cram them into a ride format... The only thing they're still good at is theming but they ffed that one up in Disney Land cali with the guardians of the galaxy attraction standing out like a giant space building in downtown Hollywood... who would've thought?
I was very disheartened to find that the poaching skit from the safari had been removed. I learned at a very young age what poaching was and the importance of the issue FROM that aspect of the safari. I understand how it may not be appropriate for children, but, as I said, that’s how I learned so young.
Sure kids should learn but maybe not on holiday at the "happiest place on earth". There's a time and a place for things, especially when it involves young kids.
I remember I went on the Safari in 2013 and asked the tour guide "where's the poachers?" he looked at me like I was awful for thinking there were poachers... I thought I made it up, glad to know it was actually just removed from the safari 😂
I went to Disney this week and I went on the safari two times. The first guide played off the scenes making something up, and the second guide didn’t mention anything. It’s just so weird seeing the remnants of a ride that seemed like a fever dream
I was lucky enough to see the Yeti move as well . It’s not the only coaster that had a feature disabled unfortunately. The cave incline on Big Thunder Mountain which featured a “cave in” effect also had large moving boulders which are now disabled and all that remains is the rumbling sound being played over the sound system inside the cave. Knowing how these things have changed during my years of going to the parks, I find myself much more focused on every aspect of the ride and trying to appreciate them more as you never know when the day may come when they are lost. Feels bad man!
My grandmother swore on her LIFE that the yeti’s movement made her feel like he brushed her hair! I doubt it! But it was truly a sight to see! I’m so disappointed that we are in disco yeti mode ;-; almost all of these affects seemed to add so much more Disney magic!!!
Artsy CinnamonRoll their not broken the stupid workers refuse to clean them so when I hear their machine is broken I respond "actually you mean you guys are to lazy to clean it"
I hope disco Yeti eventually gets fixed after Avatar is opened. There's no doubt the attraction will go down for refurbishment since its never had one since opening.
Yesterworld Entertainment i went in 2010 to animal kingdom for a a vacation. they had the part about the pocher. when i went back in 2013 they took it out completely.
My memory may be incorrect here, but didn't Joe Rohde or someone say that's precisely what they are going to do? It would make sense. That would be the perfect time to shut the ride down and fix that frickin' Yeti since "Pandora: The World of Avatar" will be the single most popular part of Animal Kingdom for a long time to come. Come on Disney! Fix the yeti!
Why would they need to take out the yeti ? The problem is not the yeti itself (it functions) , but the weak connections down to the foundation. The job to do is under the yeti..
razor muffin we went back to animal kingdom last year and I was telling my friends about the airplane and poacher encounter. They thought I was crazy when the ride was done.
I like it better before, I went after they took Big Red out, but I enjoyed it because there was sort of a sense of adventure and urgency, like we had a mission to take down those poachers! Of course, that is my very young self's perspective on it, and I have to say it is a bit tasteless now in terms of plot.
I remember the whole poachers thing on the safari. The first time I ever went to Disneyland we went on it, and I remember I kept asking “Are the poachers real?” And getting scared. We went for the third time about a month ago, and there was no mention of poachers, the woman driving just said “Oh, looks like we’re gonna have to take a turn, as our normal route is blocked off.” It was supposed to scare us, but that can’t replace the poaching thing.
What's everyone's obsession with correcting people? We all know what they meant. For the sake of their conversation starter you don't need to correct them. To your topic, when I worked at dak they had lil red outside of pride rock cafe back stage. Anyone who is still there know if it's still back there?
I think it's beautifully important to use the correct terms, because it's important to understand each other, and also important for those who don't know this stuff. Imagine some kid, reading through, seeing DL instead of WDW, and then going to school, repeating that info, and being made fun of... nothing wrong with correcting the facts (politely), even more so in these distorted facts times we live in.
I work at Kilimanjaro Safari and most of the drivers are sad they abandoned the poaching storyline. in the area near the rhinos there is still a set piece that we like to mention because KSR drivers are still there to spread a message of conservation, and the biggest threat to rhinos is still poaching. there are rumors that another guest complaint was that the plot took away animal photography opportunities, the main point of the ride. I joined the ride after the change, so I don't really have an opinion, however, its frustrating that this was taken due to being "too violent" THE POINT WAS TO MAKE PEOPLE UNCOMFORTABLE. the point was to teach people that innocent animals are dying every single day. and to this day drivers continue to remind guests that animals may go extinct soon due to poaching.
Was the set piece you mentioned a pile of horns/ tusks? I could’ve sworn I saw something like that on my last trip but I wasn’t too sure what I had seen
of course, if the anti-poaching storyline was still there today, you'd have overprivileged coked-up pieces of shit like Don Jr on TV constantly attacking Disney for pushing it's "agenda" that threatens his "right" to slaughter endangered species to make a chinless wonder like him feel like a big man
I mean... on the one hand, I get what you're saying, but on the other hand, "the point was to make people uncomfortable" is an inherently weird thing to say about an _amusement park ride._
pisses me off they took away big red's death. those people just want to ignore the fact that elephants are killed everyday by poachers and are soon going to be driven to extinction because of it. you can't ignore the facts
They aren't going to be driven to extinction. Not while they have any market value at all. It's a problem, yes, but one that can be mended partly, and ironically, by legalizing big game hunting.
Elephants are slow breeders. You'd have to farm elephants specifically for hunting and build up breeding stock or get people on a waiting list to shoot one. And then it would be canned hunting. That doesn't take skill, just a decent shot in a small area. Frankly, I find trophy hunting disgusting. You hunt it, you eat it/use its fur. Two tusks or a wasted carcass that going to get stuffed and given glass eyes is hardly a justification for killing a huge animal like that.
The legitimately killed elephants (by the park wardens, not ivory hunters) are used as a source of meat. The elephants are butchered, and the animal is used to feed hungry people. The ivory is not used, but destroyed.
I still remember that Big Red Little Red part of the ride. Kind of surprising that people were offended, you can turn on Animal Planet and see animal violence and no one would be upset.
NekoSocks 25 On the other hand being reminded that poaching exists in possibly the most lighted hard place on earth and in a very innocent park within WDW may be a little shocking for a small kid or a parent. Apply YMMV.
Shame about them scrapping the original Safrai Little and Big Red ride. Had a fantastic message behind it, which the graphicness would have got across very well.
It was a good message, and while I never got to see the dead mother elephant version, the other parts that did stay just didn't mesh well with the rest of the ride, which is all about the real animals. I was glad when they finally got rid of it.
Grumpydrawer yes i wish that powerful message would return. to highlight how real animals are killed for ivory. so some kids get sad - good they wont buy Ivory products and will support anti-poaching efforrts.
It would be extremely controversial though, not just for the "graphic" material. I work in wildlife conservation and there are a lot of different opinions on what constitutes poaching (like ~who~ is killing the animals, just for one example).
I actually went to Disney when the yeti still ran. I was 7 but still remember that thing being awesome. I went last year and didn't even notice the dang thing. #BRINGHIMBACK
I worked in many projects in Africa and saw the poaching issue in real life. It is awful and frequent so I am really upset that parents complained against the poaching storyline when this is absolutely related wirh the reality of wildlife and what a better way to teach the kids about this awful issue than a ride at a Disney park with such a good storyline to explain your kids about this problem.
Funny you mention that, I had an edit where I said something along the lines of "B mode aka disco yeti", but didn't like how I sounded for whatever reason at the time and forgot to re-record that part.
Yesterworld Entertainment I didn't even know it was gone! I always thought it was there. I just don't like violent or scary rides, and absolutely no roller coasters. I only have specific choices of dark rides and stuff.
ZoraXire OH YEE dudeLEDOO BOI YA GOT THEM NICE PUNS, THERE SONNEH! A QUARTER AND ON YE PENNY FO WONNA DOES GODD LOOKIN PUNS, SONNEH?! Sorry. Nice pun -dude- SONNEH!
I remember seeing the fully functioning yeti when I went to Disney YEARS ago. And when I went back just recently I recall it being only the strobe effect. I assumed I had imagined it actually moving from the time before since I was so young. But I'm glad this video explained it wasn't just my imagination. I'm going back to Disney in a couple days and can't wait!!
With the ice, I know the real reason. Tony Baxter said that the ice didn’t melt fast enough at the bottom and clogged the drain. He recommended putting a heater down there, but they were so over budget so they left it out. Hopefully it’ll come back one day
I remember seeing the original Yeti during Passholder previews for Everest the weekend before it opened. I definitely remember it being scary and the next time I went to Animal Kingdom (a few years later, since it's my least visited park) I remember thinking "Huh. I feel like that Yeti was a LOT scarier last time." but I didn't really pick up on why. I thought maybe it was because I was 12 when I saw the original, so it was just scarier back then. I didn't even know about the issues until I started working there. I also definitely remember Lil Red and the poachers. Not sure about the Big Red carcass though. I might've seen it.
Shannon Bristol lol I thought that same thing about the yeti this time! He moved when my family & I rode that ride in 2009, not too long after it had been built and the yeti reached out like he was going to grab the train cart and I closed my eyes when I saw him do that so he couldn’t get me! Haha I was 12 at the time. Now, they have an animation of the yeti on HD screens that show him eating the track. Definitely not as scary.
I remember seeing the carcas as a kid. However it didnt really affect me much since I learned a lot about poaching (elephants specifically) in kindergarten. I found it awesome that Disney would want to teach people about such a major issue and it saddens me that its gone now
Jeremy Gabriel did the fake carcass have anymore blood marks or anything on it or just lying there?? Curious? But I’m glad someone took this positively as a child after reading someone going on how it was dark and depressing and such. I feel stopping the poachers and saving little red would make you feel good inside for saving the elephant instead of dark and depressed from seeing the mom elephant dead
I was here before the Yeti died. It was one of the most terrifying and exciting moments of my life. It mades me sad to see him in his current condition, but if he is fixed SOMEDAY it'll be worth the wait ❤
WillowLane Productions I was never blown away by a ride as I was by the moving yeti. I was able to experience it once and it seriously freaked me out when I first saw it. It NEEDS to be repaired
I was lucky enough to see the rubble fall from the ceiling in the Indiana Jones ride. My Uncle was an employee and we were able to go on the ride before it opened to the public. I went on the ride a couple years ago and didn't even realize that they had removed it until I saw this video.
The parks are financially stuggling, because of their tickets are too high. Lower it enough, so they get more guest, but not too little where they'll face a similar problem. They need to find a right balance.
Frizzball who’s 50th anniversary? Disney World? Animal Kingdom? Or the ride itself? Because if it is the ride’s 50th anniversary, that is a long time from now, since it has only been up for 14 years.
I feel so lucky to have been able to ride with a fully functional Yeti, too bad I kind of took it for granted, its sad knowing Ill probably never see it function again despite riding the ride every few years. Well #BringBackTheYeti it is for now haha.
I knew that the Yeti had been fully functioning!!! I remember seeing a documentary or special and freaking out over it (I adore animatronics) but every time I mention it, no one else seemed to remember. It used to be my favorite part. I also remember the Kilimanjaro ride back when they still had Little Red and the jeep scene. I know there are a few other effects that weren't on this list... but in an amazing twist of irony, even I can't remember what they are!
At Disneyland, I know there is an animatronic jumping fish that used to be intended for Nature's Wonderland that still sometimes randomly works on it's own, but it is no longer taken care of by Disney... Ummm... After that, I am not sure.
Kali River Rapids is like 80% no longer working. The jeep falling in the water, fire scenes were toned down, I forget what else but I just remember that when riding it compared to the old 1990's promo VHS tape I have, there were many things no longer working.
Hannah O'Neil my first time at Disneyland was in 2006 and I'm just glad i saw it in working order. though i only went on that ride once since i haven't been back to Disneyland. But it was cool!
There is one effect that Disney tried to perfect for years before finally getting it to work properly. In the current iteration of Pirates at Disneyland, there is a waterfall that Davey Jones appears in. This effect has very old roots. There is a semi-successful iteration in the Temple of the Forbidden Eye involving rats but it only has a 1/3 chance of appearing correctly in my experience. That is not the oldest attempt, however. The effect was originally tried out in the 1983 New Fantasyland update. At the end of Peter Pan Flight, the ships would fly through a waterfall. Unfortunately, the frequency of the ships passing through the mist screen created turbulence that prevented the screen from fully forming and the effect was removed. The turbulence problem resurfaced in the Temple as well, thus the reason that the transport vehicle "stalls" just before the rats drop. This is to give a chance for the turbulence to die down and the screen to reform, This is moderately successful as sometimes the screen reforms and the edges can be seen swirling. The final successful attempt is in Pirates of the Caribbean where the slow motion of the boats does not create any turbulence, allowing the mist screen to function 100% of the time.
it was Davy Jones when I went in 2008, shortly after the effect's addition. I rode it again 12/26/14 and i think it was black beard & the effect was having the "turbulence" issue previously mentioned referring to peter pan at MK. While i hate all of the motion picture add ins, I totally loved the smoke skrim effect!
It's a shame all these are broken, but I guess that's the thing with animatronics. I know for instance even the shark in jaws (called Bruce if memory serves me correctly) malfunctioned all the time which is why its shown so little. Still, I'd love to get a close look through a ride at some point. :-P
Also before the Haunted Mansion was officially opened back when there were concepts for it being a ride through, there was a concept for a "ghostly temperature drop" and footsteps in the neverending hallway scene. If you look closely at the walls as you're passing through the speakers are still in the structure. They axed the concept though when the doombuggy concept was implemented because it didn't make sense for the effect to only happen to a select few people going through as the doombuggies run on a constant circuit. There is also the actor dressed in a suit of armor meant to scare patrons which was scrapped not long after being implemented into the mansion. And I have yet to confirm it but there's an odd piece of construction on the exterior of the mansions property and it's said that there was originally supposed to be an underground walk-through catacomb that was scrapped before the mansion opened.
If the "odd piece" is the crypts with all the names on, this is actually an emergency exit. The interior door for the exit is in the portrait hallway on the left side.
So Disney had an attraction where an elephant was murdered by poachers, and said poachers then shoot at you, then the poachers get arrested, meanwhile the dead elephant's child is now motherless...that's some heavy stuff. (P.S who thought it was a good idea to make an animatronic part of the entire ride's structure?)
I was lucky enough to have seen the Yeti fully operational the year that Expedition Everest opened up. I had no idea that it wasn't working anymore until just now. Now I feel bad for the big guy! :(
don't forget the collapsing spike ceiling in the queue line, the wall of mirrors that used to move forward to "protect" you for Mara's gaze and at on time ALL three doors actually opened. and the boulder at the end of the ride is hit and miss as well. also FIX THE YETI!!!! the list of non-operative animatronics and effects could just go on. it just boils down to up keep and Disney really does lack in these areas. Splash Mountain in Disneyland Ca. ought to be called Dark and Broken Mountain. what a shame.
There's a handful of animatronics not working. The parks are always immaculately clean, the rides rarely break down. Compare that to how huge all the parks are and the millions of people visiting every single day of the year.....I'd say they do a damn good job at upkeep of the park there buddy.
ive never seen the boulder be immobile for any stretch of time, and i can say the indiana jones ride is one i have consistently ridden at every visit to the park, which is with some frequency. they do a great job considering the park is immaculate, and they really can’t risk taking down a huge fan favorite just to attempt to fix one part, it could take years to fix. i’d give them credit, it must be incredibly difficult to run those rides
They should of kept all of them, but Big Red is very realistic. It might teach kids the meaning of life and not to hurt some animals. They could do an age restricting or something! Why do they always have to take it away?? Edit: THIS IS WHY WE NEED MICROBOTS!!! IT COULD TAKE A WEEK TO MAKE THREE RIDES!!!! SOMEONE MAKE MICROBOTS!!!!!!!!
Catmandu101 the whole point was to show us how fucked up it is. it wasn’t an extra. it WAS the ride. that’s what was supposed to happen. welcome to the real world where shit is fucked up and goes south hella fast. scary thing is while pussy moms got what they wanted in disney, the real animals were still having this happen to them
Kane Legacy because Disney never throws anything away. Company policy. Sometimes they dig things up from years ago and find new ways to use it. No matter what department it is Disney never throws anything away.
Because to repair it they'd have to get pretty deep into the rock facade that the Yeti was mounted on because that's where a good chunk of the supports and mechanics are. Which would require a fair chunk of closed time for the ride and the ride is one of the most popular ones in it's park. Once there's a new popular attraction to draw crowds away from Expedition Everest they can consider closing it for the required repairs and refurbishing to bring Yeti back.
It's not just the Yeti itself that needs to be fixed, it's its foundation and support structure. They would have to remove part of the mountain and the track to fix it.
I remember the Yeti waving its arm when I went in 2008 but I guess it wasn't fully functional. It's sad because I love Expedition Everest, it's one of my favorites.
sailorqueen2013 I used to work Everest and it still had A show days in 2008. It definitely teetered off and on between the shows, but by the time I left the company it was solely in B show.
I am a super-huge nerd for the Haunted Mansion (it's seriously a thing, I can even tell you all the differences between the original and the various ones I haven't been to, because I am lame), so I made a trip to DIsneyland specifically to see the new hat-box ghost. It looks fantastic (and I was overjoyed they left it unchanged during the Halloween season, despite changing most of the attraction to "Nightmare Before Christmas" themed stuff), but I really wish I could have seen the original.
The original hatbox ghost is actually in Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris. If you search for a POV on ride video, in the phantom canyon scene you'll notice that the ticket seller is in fact the hat box ghost
Honestly, I haven't been on the ride in years, but I can imagine one possible complaint: The ride barely ever gets updated. Other than the Bride, most of what you see is what came when the ride was finished. Something with technology from last year among old late 60's animatronics might look odd to the wrong person. Other than that, the new Hat Box Ghost is more than welcome to stay.
I hope they can get the yeti back up and running. Sure it may take a while and cost a lot to rebuild the mountain (well apart of it) but it would bring a lot more people in.
I was part of the crew that worked at The Great Movie ride maby months prior to its debut. Scripts and effects were constantly changing. The Footlight Parade issues were exactly as descibed. In fact, I'd estimate it only worked properly about 10% of the time. The full effect involved each platform layer rotating in alternate directions, fountain effects within it, and bubble effects all over. Honestly, it seemed a very simple effect to be ao unreliable. The Wizard of Oz area was especially problematic because of timing issues: Disney simply could not get permission to use as much time as was needed. The intro was originally the Kansas tornado (which ended up as Fantasia), and the setpiece was originally mord than a half minute longer. The trailer was removed from the cue for the same reason.
I remember posting that first video of the falling rubble to micechat years ago! I paused and re watched those frames countless times and was so sure it was the falling rubble effect. I can't believe all these years later I'm seeing it again here on this video! From what I remember, nobody on micechat seemed to agree that it WAS the falling rubble. Thank you for posting this!! I fee vindicated. Your second video of the falling rubble is amazing footage! I've been looking for a video like that for over a decade.
Wow!! Talk about blast from the past! I remember searching through MiceChat, and finding someone (evidently you) posting that video so many years back!! My nerdy self had dreamed of being able to see that effect for myself, and yours was the first proof I'd ever seen of that effect. You are more than vindicated my friend! That second video was due to many hours of searching through countless youtube "Indy" POV videos. In a way, you inspired this Disney lost attraction effects video, as it was the Indy Ice effect that started this whole thing!
Yesterworld Entertainment this made my whole day! So funny how this came full circle! I'm a huge nerd for this stuff and glad I could inspire such a well done video.
It was 10 years ago, back in April 2007, but I definitely saw Lil Red and if I remember right I also saw the Yeti before they were removed. Of course, the memories are hazy having just been a kid then.
Disney Imagineer Terri Hardin and I visited Shanghai Disneyland in July 2017. She wanted to take the park in and deeply appreciate the Imagineers' work. She told me to go to new attractions immediately because you get to see everything the Imagineer's intended for the attraction working entirely. Past the first year, she told me, and it's anyone's guess what you'll get.
I had no clue that the Yetti didn't work anymore! I happened to be there right after the ride first opened and I saw the animatronic. It was amazing to be able to see it fully working. I hope they're able to repair it someday.
Maddie N the animatronic is still there and working... I went about 3 weeks ago and it was working... it was my first time there in the park and ride and it scared me at first because I didn’t know what to expect but it’s still there and working!
Great video! I got to ride Kilimanjaro for the cast member preview and it really did not sit well with me. Not seeing the dead elephant, but the fact that the ride touts all completely real animals and then ends with an animatronic. It really sent mixed messages and I was glad to (finally) see little Red go, so when they say all the animals are real, they really are.
Thanks so much! That's so cool you were among the few to see it, but I completely understand why it didn't sit well with people including yourself. I can imagine for a child, having seen all live animals up to that point then showing a lifelike "dead" elephant would be quite unsettling.
When went on that ride back in 2010, I think, I didn't know that the baby elephant was animatronic, so I was always wondering why nobody, was making a big deal about keeping a baby elephant locked up in one place for so long.
I remember going on Expedition Everest shortly after it opened and seeing the fully functioning Yeti. It scared me so bad, I actually cried. I went back in May of 2016, and, although I knew what happened to it, I was still disappointed at the change.
Camille Daaé is it weird that I've been on Expedition Everest before and I've NEVER NOTICED the Yeti? I mean, I did ride it after the Yeti was dormant, but I seriously didn't notice it.
Little red was recently moved into the Disney warehouse for keeping as for the poacher cheap that is at the exit of the ride most people walk by it never even knowing that it was once part of the ride of course I take pictures of it constantly and point out its previous existence in the ride as many times as I can
I once worked with a member of the DLR maintenance and engineering team and he witnessed the removal of the ice machine from IJA. In it's first summer of operation, all the rides original effects were consistently functioning and that rubble had no joke realism. As you can probably tell from the video (thank you YESTERWORLD ENTERTAINMENT so much for finding that footage!!!) , the ice was lit from above with an orange stage light, causing the rubble to appear like chunky, liquid magma.
just found your channel recently and I really think it will get big fast! I'm a huge fan of theme park technology and especially Disneyland history, so by the looks of it, your channel is one I am all for! Great content dude, keep it up!!!
Wow, thank you for your kind words! Someone like you taking time out of your day to comment on something like that really means a lot to me, and truly makes my day. I'm aiming to balance my love and passion of theme parks, gaming, and movie history into content everyone can love and enjoy. I think you'll love my next theme park additon ;)
Yesterworld Entertainment - How come that *MGM* theme park recreated the *"Footlight Parade"* (one of my favorite Busby Berkeley movies, by the way) scene, if "Footlight Parade" was a *Warner Brothers* movie???
In the first months of the Indiana Jones ride in Anaheim, the very large snake really recoiled and then struck out quite quickly at the paused car and passengers. It was quite the effect. This slowly changed over the years -- now it kind of looks at the guests and leans forward a bit, moving its mouth and nodding.
I rode Indy when it first opened, and yes the ice drop was working back then. A friend of mine who who was a tech on the ride, told me the same story stated in the video about why the ice machine broke, and how it was virtually impossible to repair.
It can’t be fixed. In order for it to be fixed properly, Disney would have to tear down over half of the mountain and track, fix the yeti, then rebuild almoast the whole ride. #bethankful
I swear that stuff in the Indiana Jones queue had stuff that used to work too. There a sign in there a that says "Warning: Bats" and I feel like touching those golden rocks would do something. Also with holes in the ceiling and I feel like stepping in certain tiles would trigger spikes to descend. Also I remember a part where if you pull on a rope carrying something, some guy under will complain about it
There was a bamboo pole that if you pulled on it, you would hear a loud crash and the spikes would start to lower from the ceiling but it hasn't worked in years! Also miss the free Mara font decoding cards!
Aaaah the rope! It’s my favorite part of the line lmao. My aunt didn’t know it was a joke and told my cousin not to pull on it but then I did and he was so confused because I literally did what she told him not to do. Lol I had to explain that it was allowed to be pulled because it was a joke. I never knew the spiked would descend if you stepped on the diamonds! I always stepped on them and nothing happened. Maybe it’s an older feature or at a specific Disneyland, the only one I’ve ever been to is the California one, so I wouldn’t know anything about the others. Pretty neat!
I believe the spike effect was removed due to safety concerning tall guests. Disneyland CA is also the only installation of "Forbidden Eye", WDW has an allegedly copied layout in Dinosaur (Countdown to Extinction) @ Animal Kingdom.
Definitely yes. I got to go on it very soon after it opened (waited in line for well over 2 hours, lol - totally worth it!) and remember seeing the falling rubble and all of those awesome things in the queue. Man, I wish they would fix some of those effects, especially the ceiling rubble. So awesome.
This is all I have ever wanted in a RU-vid channel. Amazingly fascinating information which I used to research for hours, all presented in a nicely edited and paced video. Love your content, keep it up!
I had a strange experience with my family on the Disneyland pirates ride. We rode the ride twice in a row. On the second time, the pirate balancing on the dock and boat holding a stack of stuff was gone. Almost as if the animatronic had been removed. Can somebody explain this to me? Because me and my family are so confused!
I saw Disneyland practically from opening day to probably late 70's and could see how some of the rides were deteriorating. I remember seeing the elephants many times. Not in person though... A few years back I worked at a video production office. We filmed weddings, made commercials, training videos etc. and also transferred old film or photos to video or DVD. Yup...VHS was still a thing. I think everybody who ever took a super 8 camera to Disneyland shot almost the exact same footage. I probably could have mixed some up and nobody would ever know. It took some monumental patience to get some of the footage from old rotten film. Some was like brand new, well preserved...some was kept in shoe boxes in musty old attics or basements. There was lots of blackness where people would try to film the indoor rides, sometimes I could bring out more detail playing with the levels, brightness, contrast, we tried to get every little bit even if it was just a few seconds from a roll. It might be the only images someone has of a dead loved one.. But I also saw unpublished amateur war footage from WW2, Korea, VietNam. it wasn't always birthday parties and vacations.
I've been looking for footage of the Indiana jones rubble falling for months with no luck and you found an excellent clip of it. very cool, thank you for all your hard work keep it up!
Thank YOU for watching! No lie, I'd checked on and off for YEARS with no luck. But when I had the idea for this video last year, it took about half a day of watching countless Indy POV's before I stumbled upon this one.
I honestly think big red was a very good lesson for young children, teaching them about how to protect wild animals and what you can do to help the environment.
The Yeti would be a nice reclaim, for sure. I know that you didn't include it here, but my biggest gripe at the WDW parks is the loss of Snow White's Scary Adventures. The biggest lost to the parks ever, I think!
I love the videos from movies that you choose to loosely depict what you're describing. You have hilarious and great choices thrown in your videos which makes them all so great on top of the info you're giving us.
The last time and only time thus far I visited WDW, it was in during Spring Break 2003. I remember visiting Animal Kingdom and riding the Kilaminjaro Safari Ride. They had the "Little Red in the Truck" prop/animatronic and they did the spiel of Big Red being safe and sound with the rangers.
Wow, i had completely forgotten about Lil and Big Red! I definitely remember Lil Red being there when I was a kid, and I'm pretty sure I remember Big Red's body too, but I don't remember the jeep.
I saw the falling debris on opening week! Believe it or not, it fell in the room when you looked into Maras eyes as well. Brown rocks would fall and smash. Obviously some colored ice that would melt and be recycled. I've been claiming this forever, and this is the first video I've seen about it.
Visited as a kid and saw the rewritten but functional version of the safari, and saw the fully functional yeti. Because of the yeti, that is still my favorite Disney ride to this day, but more than a decade later I had no idea it hasn't been seen since.
I remember the Kilimanjaro safari poacher chase, I was actually looking forward to going back this year and experiencing that again. Knowing now that they took it out, is it just a "safari tour" now? Or what?
I went to Disneyland when I was 5 years old in 1967. I distinctly remember the original Tiki Hut with the Barker birds and original demi gods. That attraction, The Pirates of the Caribbean and the Small World ride were my all time favorites.
I remember the Animal Kingdom Safari ride with the poachers during a visit in '09. I thought it was pretty cool, and had a real world message for people. The jeep chase, the rocking bridge, and the animatronic baby elephant at the end was all integrated very well. What made it cooler, was our driver had an acting voice that sounded like Shaggy from Scooby Doo! During our last visit in '15, we went on the ride again, and it just wasn't the same... it felt like we were just driving through a zoo.
I definitely remember the poacher aspect of Kilimanjaro Safari even though I was only 6 at the time. Its weird how you’re able to witness a part of a ride that no longer exists anymore.
I did go on the _Kilimanjaro Safari_ ride when Animal Kingdom first opened. I did think "Big Red" dying was a bit dark (though, sadly, accurate). Since the animals are really the starts of the show, I have no problem with this storyline being removed. I've also been on _The Great Movie Ride_ since the beginning. I did like that opening, though it impressed me as being a touch risqué for Disney. I confess, it never occurred to me the problems they had with that scene were mechanical. I'd assumed somebody complained. Moot point now since the entire ride is gone. I haven't been on the _Expedition Everest_ rollercoaster since the Yeti stopped moving (my wife is not a fan of a rollercoaster going backwards). That being said, I confess to not being too upset at its non-functionality. Just being there with the roar should be good enough (though, yeah, the effect was cool). The other two are at Disneyland, which I've only been at once.
Speaking of the Safari ride, i remember riding the ride and getting really sad when i thought they got big red, but being happy we stopped the fuckin poachers from getting the baby. Thanks for bringing that memory up! Edit: and in expedition everest, i deff remember the yeti actually swinging at me!
I love your videos dude. Most other channels that talk about backstage Disney stuff always talk so much crap about disneyland in their videos. You give us tbe straight up facts without being rude as hell about the people who work so hard for this park. Thank you for that.
I actually got to see the yeti working. My family was there opening week of Everest. It was an amazingly wonderful (and slightly terrifying) effect. I do really hope they fix it one day.
