In this video I test AC and DC TIG on the Yeswelder Firstess CT2050. It's a little shorter than some of my videos, but hopefully it still covers the main aspects of TIG performance that is of interest to people wondering if this welder will do what they need.

I just want to say thank you for this great review on the YES CT2050 welder. I have been welding for 40 years and was thinking about buying this very machine, not for me but for a cousin that asked me to find a decent welding machine that had multiprocessing. I currently have a Miller 330 A/BP AC/DC with High Frequency, Gas and water valves connections and a range from 5 amps to 460 amps. It's the real deal for serious welding needs. I believe it's a 1987 or 1988 model with approximately 100 hrs. or less on it. I bought it maybe six years ago along with the paperwork from WESCO Welding Supply. Extremely smooth arc. I was thinking about selling it and getting a multiprocessing inverter, now I'm cautious about doing that. I'm going to watch all of your videos to get your honest opinion on what you have had experience with. I'm retired and now 72 years old, sad thing is forgetting the names and places you worked, even all the wonderful knowledge of welding and fabrication, the real tips and tricks you had to know and not being afraid to share them. Could you please tell me how you filmed the weld puddle doing aluminum or really any type of welding. I'd like to leave some videos of my welding for my family to see and especially my grandsons to see. God bless and thank you so much for sharing your input on these inverter machines. Paul Greenlee

My cat really didn't like the sound when you were doing DC tig below 20 Amps! Great review, thank you.

Great video. I feel bad for the people who spend good money for this only to not have the capability they think they do. The aluminum issue with the foot pedal is a huge deal, doing fillet welds is going to be real tough with sub 150 amps. I am glad you’re doing these videos so people know what they are getting. Makes me wonder if yes welder will ever actually produce a functional accurate spec welder, or if they will just disappear one day lol.

Wow now that is a eye opener to see yeswelder's old tricks again or something to do with quality control! Who knows hopefully they will see this video and try to fix the problem. Keep up the great work with the videos!!!👍👍👍👍👍l

Hi Dear I just bought yeswelder machine CT2500 But shipping not arrived yet Can you help me let me know if it's good or bad machine please. Thanks

@@dongpham140 if you watch a RU-vid video he explains and shows you that the machine does not do the amperage that is supposed to do of two hundred amps it only does 150 amps on the DC side and does less on the AC side. I would go ahead and assume that the machine is not that great of a machine compared to what I have a primeweld tig225x I know for a fact it does all of the 225 amps on the AC side and the DC side I've tested it myself and I've been welding with it for the past two-and-a-half years.

Great video once again..a true hero jumping on these Chinesium grenades for us again and again..lol any chance you might try the Vevor flavor machines..Lotos and Primeweld machines are great to use but not so much on subject video content as they actually work well..lol..but Vevor may be a 50/50 roll of the dice depending on individual model etc..

I think the potentiometer inside the pedal is out of adjustment (or just not designed for the full range). Simple test would be to check the resistance at “full power” between the handheld torch and the pedal. The machine clearly does it, so seems that its just the output of the pedal.
@bigtb1717
@bigtb1717 Год назад
I agree that the most likely issue is an out of calibration/spec pedal. I plan to test the output using the torch mounted amperage adjustment to see if that one will reach the full output. Or at least, the same output as the non-adjustable mode. I'll update once I do some more tests.

I just have no watch your video again and seeing that on the AC side that you can't even weld a couple of coupons together of a thin that's going to suck for someone who spends good money on this machine when you can't even get 150 amps to weld an aluminum joint. I have a primeweld tig225x and when I'm welding aluminum I got 180amp on the dial. Hopefully yeswelder sees that and they start getting on the ball with getting these machines doing the right thing!!!!!!!

This is why i'm not a fan of these all in one machines. They do so many things, but do none of them well. I was currious about this welder, but i'll stick with my primeweld 225x.

I paid $1k for it mostly to have a plasma cutter which doesn't need an extra air compressor to attach to and tig option to weld aluminum, in one machine. I didn't expect it to be a miller or Lincoln quality, so for a diy it should be a good machine machine with a small flows like this
@bigtb1717
@bigtb1717 Год назад
In my opinion, plasma cutting with the built-in compressor is probably the best thing this machine does. Works surprisingly well. If you are happy with it and it works for you, that's what is important.

Awesome vid. Did you call Yeswelder? If so, what did they say. It should be a warranty. you may gave gotten a dud

I haven't contacted Yeswelder. I've been busy, but I plan to test the torch mounted amperage control to see if it allows more output than the foot pedal. Either way, I suppose it couldn't hurt to see what they say about the fact that the output simply doesn't match the spec.

I feel like for this level of cost that stuff should have been worked out. A dedicated AC/DC tig cost much less (ie Primeweld) can easily pulse and use a foot pedal and has none of these issues. Also i agree that the interface is highly annoying.
@andrewweil7943
@andrewweil7943 Год назад
I lucked out as well with a cheaper Chinese parts Ac/Dc Tig, picked up a AHP alphaTIG 225xi and couldn't be happier, was a bit harder jumping in at first with the all analog settings knobs for frequency and balance and pulse etc, but liked the idea of less shit to break. Also heard great results with the Weldpro units from a friend

Great info. So you think the problem is the machine or the Foot Pedal? Did you measure the ohms when the foot pedal was up and down?
@bigtb1717
@bigtb1717 Год назад
I haven't checked the resistance of the foot pedal yet. I have since tried with the torch mounted amperage control dial instead of the foot pedal and the behavior was the same (I made a short video about it). So I think it's to do with the machine, not the foot pedal.

Seems like yes welder probably should have done a little more r&d on this. I’m pretty sure they’re r&d consists of a guy with a phone that calls up the manufacturer in china to deliver a welder with certain features and then yes welder just boxes it up and sells it without batting an eye.

I might have missed it, but does this machine do mig and did you make a video on it as a mig welder? The tig function seems to be a bit of a failure as well as the stick function, so curious about it as mig . Why have it for only a half decent plasma cutter.
@bigtb1717
@bigtb1717 Год назад
It does not have MIG functionality. Just TIG, stick, and plasma.
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
Just curious what AC Hz freq were you using when testing the AC output? My understanding is it needs to be on 60 Hz for an accurate reading but I really don't know for sure.
@bigtb1717
@bigtb1717 Год назад
I tested it at 70Hz and 120Hz and it didn't make a difference. I never went as low as 60Hz, but technically, frequency shouldn't really make a difference, assuming the accuracy of the meter used doesn't drop significantly above or below a certain frequency. I may get out the scope, do some more measurements and put together a quick video just showing some additional testing. I'm curious what the AC sinewave looks like and if things like balance and frequency are accurate. I don't have reason to think they aren't, but it could be interesting to see.
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@@bigtb1717 That's interesting, I have always thought that the meeter needs to be on the same frequency as the welding machine for an accurate reading. I don't know how different meters adjust to this or what the difference would be if they weren't calibrated to one another. It is an interesting subject and neat to see your testing.
@bigtb1717
@bigtb1717 Год назад
The meter I used in the video has a stated accuracy of +/- 1.8 % at 60 Hz and +/- 2% at 100-400Hz. So it's slightly less accurate above 60 Hz, but the difference is very small.
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
Something else that has always captured my curiosity is why do we not see testing videos like this on name brand reputable products such as Miller or Lincoln machines? My assumption has always been that those machines are also manufactured in China but they are (or should be) tested and calibrated individually to meet certain output requirements to wear those "reputable" brand names. As a result they also carry a higher purchase price. If a machine like the YW CT2050 had the Miller or Lincoln name on it would probably have a 3 or 4 thousand dollar price tag. I'm fairly confident that Chinese machines of non popular brand names are not tested or calibrated individually. Maybe they have an occasional spot check from the production line? I'm sure this is a big factor in the price point difference. I don't own a Miller or Lincoln machine but not because I wouldn't like to. I just can't justify the cost for my little welding hobby. I would love to see some videos of this output testing on a popular brand name machine to see how they compare as far as output and advertised output both in AC as well as DC. I've always believed this is the main difference between a high dollar "brand name" product and an "off brand" hobby grade product. (interesting stuff)
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@@bigtb1717 That's accurate enough for me, I wouldn't be able to tell a 2% difference at my skill level. :)

I like the fact that everything you say (as a result of your test) is always weighted... You are not into the sort of «hay fire» comment... When you say it is perfectly usable, I read: «well, it is usable, but who wants to buys something that is partly defect?» or «... that partly works fine, partly not...». Yeswelder? Never! These guys seem to not be so well intentioned... They had so much red flags from reviewers all around. They need to make their proofs...
@JHV166
@JHV166 Год назад
So basically, is Chinese junk that doesn't deliver advertised specs, is incapable of any meaningful work and tries to be all things to all people. (Which as we all know NEVER works out.) Take a hard pass on this $400.00 welder...yes, I know it's north of $1600 (closer to 2K), but it's being generous to say it may be worth 400...actually, a Welder that doesn't do the job and STRUGGLES to weld 1/8" aluminum is WORTHLESS.
