Love your videos Geoff. I had a Nova 1.3 SR (A reg 1984) as an 18 year old, thought I was the bees knees 😂. I then sold it and got a Ford Fiesta XR2 (E reg mk2 1987), I was the bees knees with that one 😎. I love cars, and hope we keep these tyrants away from our petrol engines. You literarely nicked it for £650 notes. 😉 Love that colour on the 850 Geoff. I had a 1997 R reg V70 2.5T back in the late 1990's in very similar (if not the same) colour with full cream leather and the same T5 alloy wheels. Was a lovely thing 👌 when nearly New.

Having been a child during several 'locking keys in car' issue situations (rover 2500, 3500, Citroen bx and maestro...) I made it habit of always undoing a window enough each time I leave the keys in the ignition, it was embarrassing enough as a child 😅

Nail on head comment. Luckily for me my banger won't lock but there's a bloody big dog on the passenger side and she wants the window down a bit. I reckon she was locked in at some point.

First to try, cut a credit card into a width to just fit inside the inner slot where the latch is. The latch will be snapped but you can force against the spring pressure keeping it closed. Bend the strip in a tight curve and push it into the top gap where the sneck should guid it into the slot and ping it open.

Glove box, you have to drill a small hole in a special place, then use rod to move lever.

I locked my keys in my 940 once. I locked it from the inside when I was getting stuff out the back, walked away and realised the keys weren't in my hand. looked inside the car and they were in the ignition😂luckily it came with about 5 spare keys so i got the train home and came back out😅

Yep. I have a 740T wagon that I learnt to respect. Every time the battery is reconnected the car locks itself! Which twice involved me having the car shut with the Keys in the ignition.... I now put them on the windscreen whenever connecting a battery 🤣

My mk6 Fiesta make a random noise that sound like the central locking trying to activate if left unlocked, it also does it while your driving sometime and the hazards flash one time only. Very random. Doesn’t do it when it’s locked. The passenger door sometimes says it’s open when it’s not. Thought about replacing the door loom but you can’t buy one and the wires can fray because of the wear and tear. Problems aside nice comfy cheap car to drive so it stays till it’s unviable (one previous owner for its first 11 years and it was in scotland…. So the underside is a bit crusty)

I was washing my E38 at manchester Airpoert jet wash place , at 1AM 6 weeks ago i like that time of night . its a weird thing but its an E38 . My dog pressed the central locking and the hazzards button with keys in ignition E38 then he went to sleep,TOTALY DEAD LOCKED .. So 50 mile round trip to get the spair keys from Bolton Then i got back and he had pressed it again it was open unlocked .

I got locked out of a customers car once when I was working for a mainstream dealership and had to break in. Never leave the keys in any car with central locking, get into the habit of taking them with you every time you get out, this save you a lot of hassle.

I used to have a Nissan bluebird that would lock the central locking with a good door slam, fortunately I discovered that the drivers key barrel could be turned with a 5p coin so it was never an issue

As a side note my cousin used to work at a police garage back when the basic stock were fiesta’s, they always left the driver’s window down as they discovered any ford key would lock any ford car

Re the stuck glovebox thing, my 850 had that and the PO wrecked it opening it (why I don’t know, probably a packet of wine gums in there?). Ignore all the advice about hacksaws and drills. A US Volvo forum has a couple of non destructive methods.

I have a 2009 volvo v70 2.0 diesel with 265000 miles i still get 42 mpg around town and 50 mpg plus on a run.

I have an OCD thing when it comes to asymmetric wheels It’s the fact that on the near side the spokes rake backwards and on the offside wheels the spokes rake forward. I’d have to change them.

Agree. Not much you can do though. BMW made lefts and rights on their throwing star alloys for that reason. Just doesn't look right does it.

There is another method I did not try, sound fiddly but worked for someone. insert a long slim but strong steel rod underneath between the soft outer and hard inner lid parts, mid length, and poke about straight up till you hit the catch. Do not push pull etc you will break the hinge mounts and inner liner like my cars PO did. Once I had mine open I replaced the broken latch with a repair kit from EBay, and installed a thin picture hanger type pull wire to open the thing if it broke again, I also drilled 2 holes in the flocked glovebox liner where a thin screwdriver can now be inserted in the top gap to loosen off the lock sneck as well.

@@GeoffBuysCars Having split the lid apart to fit the latch repair kit, I would say the bent credit card trick would be my first try....there is a tiny little box cast around the the latch which would make access from below and the rod idea a bit fiddly. Why not take one of your working glovebox lids apart for clues where to shove things!

i would love to own old car as a 2nd car for me or wife but car tax for older cars are mad high like for this kind volvo. Cant afford paying that high car tax every month. Good luck enjoy the good buy.

Right ok but I have a 2.0 10v manual and it has got plenty of power. Sometimes I wonder if the 126 hp is accurate so a Dyno vid is deffo required here

Hi, first have to say how much I appreciate your channel and work. Thought I would also ask a question, if that is ok, that might highlight an issue. Received the reminder letter re my MOT on Friday, went on line just now and I cant get an MOT in my area (Co Antrim) till mid October! With my MOT running out in just under a month clearly this raises some concerns and was wondering if this is an issue in other areas as this would appear to have the potential impact of forcing people not to drive or face charges.

Pretty tidy Volvo 850. I have seen on ebay recently a early XC70 which was based on the V70 that followed on from this generation of Volvo. Extremely rare to see one of the early models in XC spec.

Cant beat the old shape, throw in a t5 engine and a manual gearbox and you've got one hell of a machine thats very easy to work on (and hardly ever breaks so you hardly have to work on it lol) not to mention being an absolute fucking tank, im only alive today because of how well they can take a VERY bad accident, car crushed and flatpacked the dashboard and i needed to have my left hand and wrist pinned back together and lots of skin sewn back on as well as collapsed lungs from the seat belt, only reason i wasn't crushed to death was because the seat head rest held up the roof, and the seat and steering wheel kept the dash from crushing my legs (steering wheel literally bent around my thigh pinning me in place) 90% of other cars on the road both old and new wouldn't have managed to keep me alive in such a bad crash. I don't own one at the moment but i definitely need to get at least one or 2 before they're all gone.

V70 d5 2002 for £750 in 2019, 5th daily drive volvo, just about to do my 60 mile round trip to work. Would only buy cars at bottom end or at top on finance, owning at 15 grand car is too much a liability.

30mpg? Luxury! Mine reports 28mpg on a run, that's why it got converted to LPG over 200,000 miles ago. I'm case you miss the other post, SGS Engineering in Derby offer a gas strut re-gas service. I used to pay about a tenner per strut and they'd do them while waiting. If that's doable for you, probably best to ask if the while you wait is still available in case it needs an appointment now. It's not too bad ajob on the 850, just a load of plastic trim to remove and have spares of the plastic clips.

I think you need a Picasso in your collection Geoff, mine is a classic bangernomics really tatty but drives like a dream & cheap to run. My missus keeps telling me get rid says its embarrassing but it served me so well. I would gladly sell it to you very cheap but nobody else if you promised to give her the tlc she needs it would make a great transformation video ? Has anyone ever restored a picasso ?

What a bargain again Geoff. Absolutely stunning colour and beautiful interior. 650 quit is almost like you stole it 😅. But why removing the catalytic converter (not for the first time)? I agree with you on so many things and share your opinion concerning a lot of topics you are presenting on your channel. But a catalytic converter is definitely good for the environment and removing it makes the emissions worse. So why would you do this. For 3 o 4 extra horse power or a slightly better sound?

I lived on Cocoa Beach back in the 80's and 90's and Volvos were the only cars that didn't rust in a year or two. I guess they had galvanized bodies way before any American cars did, yeah 80,000 miles is just broke in for a Volvo.

Currently get 28 mpg from my 2000 V70 Classic 2.4 with the Denso system on it. 28 MPG average Absolutely everywhere. Is it worth changing the old Lambda O2 sensors, in anyone's experience, will that help?

126 hp at birth. Probably have about13 now!!! 🤣🤣. Get it on a ramp and make sure it is solid underneath, but that is a good low mileage.

@@scotty6346 My brother had a V70, with moon and back mileage, solid as a rock. A few minor faults that seemed to be pricey to repair. I had a BMW 316e46. Jesus. If BMW would spend about £20 more on a slightly better design to wheel arches and worked on a metal alloy for brake components that didn't dissolve in contact with slightly salty water, they would be great cars!

My wife has a 20 year old top of the range Smart Car which she bought from new and it still only has 25,000 miles on it and drives exactly the same as it did new. Only very slight issue is the windscreen rubber surround might need replacing due to it not being refitted properly after a new windscreen. Very easy to drive, park and around 60mpg. Only £30 VED per year, £95 to insure fully comp each year, plus MOT cost. No point in buying a new car at all, and definitely not an EV. Oh, and worth more than 10-year old Nissan Leafs!

I once had to pay £95 for taxi to run me home for the spare key. So I make a point of placing my key in my pocket before I load anything in or out of the car. I momentary lack of concentration can be very expensive with self locking cars 😢
