Great video! I just got a FLIP 12 in charcoal and love it! Thought that I would check on here and see the reviews about it and came by yours! Great to see your take on it and appreciate you mentioning overfilling the ice given the extra space below the lid! I've ordered both the Molle bottle opener AND the bottle key opener! (And I'll be quietly hinting to my kids about the SideKick as a possible Christmas or Father's Day gift! Ha!) Many thanks for the informative video and give Jake a scratch on the head for me!! (And definitely another chunk of ice!)
Hey Kevin! Thanks for the feedback and the shout out for Jake!! I'm glad you are enjoying the cooler. I really used my flip 12 a lot and it has stood the test of time so far. I've got a review on my channel on the sidekick if you want to check it out. Again, really appreciate the feedback and comments. Take care. JD.
I bought the newer color (navy blue) for the backflip 24(backpack) and I filled it up with so much weight and when it’s on your back it’s amazing you don’t feel any of it you should really check it out the best thing I bought yet
I came here to figure out if I should have bought the 18 over the 12. I figured weight would be an issue between the two. I plan on carrying the cooler into festivals which can be challenging due to distance and space. I wanted something soft and not too rigid for the task. It seems the 12 fits the bill.
JD Offline ya 12 should be fine for now. Just hope zipper last. I live on PCH, CA by the beach and can carry it walking from home to sand. Use top as my table😀. U ever put a fresh caught fish in it bud? I catch a lot of Corbina corvina surf perch off the sand here. I’m afraid the fins will puncture the liner😲
@@andrewcpham I think the zipper will last! I've never put fish in mine so can't comment on that but I think the liner would be fine, it's pretty thick/tough. Once you get it, you can evaluate that and make your decision on that. I surf fish quite a bit and usually buy a "sacrificial" $5 styrofoam cooler for bait and any fish I keep.
JD Offline ya JD, I should do what u do and don’t put the stinking fish in my cool yeti, what am I thinking. I’ll tag along my cheap ass cooler for the fish👍
Hey...would you recommend the flip 18 over the hooper or tundra...looking to pick up one for the motorhome....to go on camping trips, beach trips and that!! Have gone from one to the other, changing daily haha!! Cheers!
Hey Ciaran. If you are doing anything that requires ice retention for a longer period of time, I would stick with the hard sided coolers (Tundra). I mainly use the soft sided coolers for day trips/excursions. Not saying they also can't hold ice but you can't beat the rotomolded ones on ice retention. Just remember that unless you go up to the Tundra Haul w wheels, weight in the rotomolded coolers will always be an issue where the flip 18 is manageable as far as weight goes. I'm kinda interested in the redesigned "roadie" cooler they just released. I like the design of it. Tough choice, I hope this helped! Thank you for the comment.
Cheers for the reply JD...yeah the roadie looks interesting...although the bigger one doesn’t seem to be available in Europe!! Smaller one then prob abit too limited!! It’s a tough decision...the tundra makes sense for leaving in the RV but then limits day beach trips and that...mobility ain’t great...the flip 18 looks very mobile and good storage...the hooper m30 looks exciting too... Ah it’s a toughie...need to just bite the bullet and pick one...
Wow that's amazing quality for 2years with a lot of use... couldn't even tell! Thanks for the review im 100% getting one! I hear their ice pack leaves it at -2c (31f)?
Yes they have held up well, especially the flip 12 and I've used it extensively. Not sure about the ice packs, I have a couple but seem to gravitate more towards just regular ice most of the time. Thanks for the feedback and comment.
@@JDOffline those yeti. Ice packs are to extend your ice , not replace use of ice . So when ice melts, the blue stuff so cold ,it refreezes water back into ice . Lasts about 2 times longer
Hey Katelyn, I've never really weighed it but I think it would be fine, paddle boards seem pretty stout and should be able to hold the weight (I would think). Hope this helps. JD
The flip 18 is my go to cooler. It’s just the right size and weight for me. I use it the most out of all my yetis. I ended up selling my flip 12 because I never used it once I got the 18. It’s held up well also. I saw those in an email today. They do look sharp. JD
Still holding up great and the most used cooler in my collection (the flip 18). I sold my 12 because once I got the 18 I never used it anymore. Not saying the 12 isn’t a good cooler. For me the 18 is perfect. Good luck w your choice. JD
Hey Joann, I looked all over the house tonight for a gallon jug and I don't think we have one so I can't test this. I think they would fit but don't want to say for sure without actually testing it. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. If one turns up or next time we get a gallon of milk I'll test it and follow up.
I wish I could say I checked that but I haven't. I would think they would fit easily into the flip 18. I put tall beers in there with no issue. Hope this helps. JD
Toby that's a complicated answer!! To me the flip 18 is the perfect day cooler because I find the flip 12 just a little too small for me and the hard coolers are just too heavy to lug around. I did just get the new Roadie 24 and I really like it so far. Check out my review on my channel of that cooler.
@@JDOffline I have a question actually if you also have the Roadie 24, I'm considering a new 12 or 18 flip, but I figure if I have the Roadie 24 as I already do, if you bring 2 coolers do you prefer the 12 with you because of full weight, or the 18 for convenience?
It’s great. If I’m going to be in it a lot I typically don’t do the zipper up all the way and just let the top kind of flap down. Not good for ice retention but convenient for shorter periods of time. The flip 18 is my go to cooler for most things. I love it. Perfect size. Hope this helps!! JD
Denise D. Hey Denise. I would think the flip 12 is too big for like a lunch cooler. You could use it and it could serve two purposes I guess as a cooler and as a lunch cooler but i think it’s too big. My buddy has the flip 8 which is smaller but yeti also makes a lunch cooler bag. I’ve never seen them so no opinion here. Hope this helps. JD
I've tested that with my tundra hauls and found them to be exactly the same. The flip coolers I normally use for a day so I've never tried to keep ice in them very long. I did do an ice test in the flip 12 when I first got it (old video on my channel).
I have a hard time believing they are against guns and firearms. I'm not trying to start a debate here and I appreciate your point of view. I think they make a high quality product and I like their coolers. I have a lot of guns and Yeti didn't infringe on my rights to own guns. I'm also about as patriotic as you will find and Yeti hasn't bothered me a bit about my belief in America, guns, God, etc. Thank you for the comment, I really do appreciate that some people are against Yeti. Please understand I'm just offering an opinion about their coolers and how they hold up to abuse, not trying to get into the politics of it.
thania72olds442 No they just changed their discount policy and offered the NRA a new discount offer but took it as an attack against them and guns, it was a simple case of miscommunication but people don’t bother to get the right information and just run with the first thing they see
