Definitive proof that dubbed anime is better than subbed, once and for all. This is Sean Schemmel, the voice of Goku, giving the performance of his career.
@@tsukuyomimagi9968 I dunno, Sean Schemmel is doing pretty good, considering he's G O K U. As for the director? likely went on to Jetix, then Toonzai, and then he's working corporate in what remains of 4kids. I can assume, since I haven't found data on the guy.
@@colmecolwagjust like japanse android 13 in that Dragon Ball movie. Dude was so bland in his voice and his “must kill goku” motivations. The english dub gave him a southern trucker personality and made him more iconic.
@@SilhouetteJudas actually its because Sean Schemmel is from New Jersey and 4kids was based in New York City, it would make sense he would do a lot of voices for them since they would be at most an hour drive or 2 from New Jersey where he lived
@@SilhouetteJudas he’s been voicing the most famous anime character and one of the most fictional characters in general since ‘99, I think he’s fine to have a little fun with fuck around characters
This is actually genius see we are all too busy laughing at the stupid voice to realize zane is literally being tortured and begging to be let out so they didn't have to censor anything
@@michelliberato thanks I just like to defend the dub even when it is stupid alot. I just found it funny they actually didn't censor anything about how zane is actually getting electrocuted and is in actually pain
Well not sure if that's why they did that considering Zane vs Cyrus wasn't censored and his brother literally passed out after the duel and his brother didn't even cared if he could of died from that duel. But knowing networks they probably did do that just to pass the scene off as a joke to get by the censorship. Then by that time they pretty much had an excuse to let the second duel slide. But weird Jaden or aster didn't get a rematch after that. Kinda of lame.
Imagine that in a fusion context! you just hear vegeta talking like a normal badass muscle dude meanwhile at the exact same time saying the exact same lines "my nwame ish gogeta! I am nyeithew gokuw now vegeta!" & the entire cast never EVER acknowledges it XD
@@TPHoarder who cares hes a hack, the original series is meant to be campy and funny for kids, the best jokes in ygo abridged are from actual jokes in the series
This is the original dub I believe, I watched it and this is what it is. I could be wrong for the original original idk, but if you watch it, that voice is there
The GX dub is such an enigma. On one hand, I think a lot of the voices for the core cast genuinely give damn good performances, with Zane's voice possibly being my personal favorite. But then you also got insane stuff like this, and I find myself asking "What the hell is going on?".
The best part about this isn't the voice. It isn't the dialogue. It's the fact that both of those things ate applied to a character with LITERAL SCARS.
Every time I see someone get salty at the decisions 4kids made for the GX dub, I think to myself that this is a show with a high school student who had a dinosaur fossil transplanted into his leg and became part dinosaur because of it. They were just going with the tone the show set.
Goku using an uwu voice for literally no reason is one of many things that makes GX a solid official abridged dub. Imagine if it wasn't 4kids and they were allowed to make as many adult jokes as Ghost Stories lmao
Okay but legit, if you ever find yourself in an underground fight ring and your opponent talks like this, fucking RUN. This would be the most terrifying thing imaginable, because a man who talks like this and works in a place like this has never developed concepts of restraint or complex morality and he WILL bite your face off like a coked up chimpanzee
@Xenonfuji Much like with 5D's, 4kids execs demanded so much censorship that it was actually affecting the whole plot of the series. They lost the contract for it entirely. A lot of the regular employees at 4kids admitted in an interview that they despised the board of directors for how much blatant and unnecessary censorship the shows had, and even named the Kaiba Corp heads in the dub "The Big Five" as a jab at their own board of directors, which was exactly five members.
@Xenonfuji 4kids has a long history of being sued from Japanese studios for misusing and utterly ruining their animated product. Massive amounts of censorship, and to put it lightly 4kids skipped an ENTIRE ARC of One Piece, meaning a lot of the last stuff they did for the show made no sense in or out of context. The big 5 execs were horrible people who fired employees on a whim and refused to ever be held accountable for anything they forced the staff to do.
I see Yugi must've beaten Goku in a children's card game and mind crushed him causing him to take on the persona "Mawd Dawg" who beats Poopyheads in underground children's card games
In the dub he is supposed to be a Mike Tyson reference The dude has a speech Impediment but the dude can kill you with a single punch so nobody ever says it to his face
@@andressamartins1786 and football its just bunch of dudes in shorts kicking a small ball yet people go NUTS and threat as something serious so....yeah
Lol this voice used to drive me crazy as a kid but as an adult I kinda get why they had to do it. You gotta find some way to distract kids from the fact that Zane is literally being tortured
They did the squeaky voice on purpose to make Zane lose it from annoyance and the constant loss of life points, which was very clever well played 4kids
He sounds like Mike Tyson had a daily dose of helium tanks, along two chalkboards with knives glued on them, and scraping each other, while you’re sitting between them. BTdubs, in case y’all don’t know, that is the voice of King Kai and Goku!!!!
I remember seeing a video where the voice actor for Kaiba was talking about the abridged series and saying that while it was funny it wasnt as funny as the adlibs they did in the studio that they did for fun and not for the final cut. If this is what made it to air I really wanna see what they considered too much for tv
@@shinkenger2011 True, but Japanese cartoons and American cartoons at the time (and in some cases today) have different tropes, humor, tones, morals, themes, etc. 4Kids didn't understand that and treated anime as AMERICAN animation.
@@redrider2865 I think this was supposed to be them making a parody of Mike Tyson (cause all 8 year olds know who that is right, lol). Also Mad Dog's voice I've heard was the winner of a who voices who contest and Sean Schemmel won apparently.
Honestly, THIS is the kinda dub I like. Where they use the base and try to keep the accuracy but also take artistic liberties to make it's own identity.
I rewatched this series and this was legitimately one of the funniest parts of the series, along with sean schemmel being a rapper. Don’t be hating was delivered perfectly.
My assumption is that this man was an ex-wrestler who suffered some form of head trauma. It'd explain why an overmuscled fella like this has gone into underground card games.
Imagine would you rather, would you rather have the body of an Adonis and sound like an annoying 6 year old or have a shrimpy body and change your voice and sound like Morgan Freeman?”
Director: Okay, Mr. Schemmel, do you think you can come up with an appropriate voice for this muscular, body-scarred steel-cage-match tough guy duelist? Sean: Sure. Uh, how about I inhale a tank of helium and have him talk like a man with the mentality of a bratty four year old? Director: …We may need to make a couple of script changes.
