My dad was 1st Cav in Ia Drang. 21 years with 2 foreign wars Korea and Vietnam. CIB for both. Passed away about 9 years ago. My best friend. Miss you pop.
I give these guys credit gave their blood so we can be free in this country the problem is they don't get enough respect but these guys really did a wonderful job protecting our country God bless them
Heroes, all of em. My Uncle, Jerry Thompson...the 1st and 7th Air Cav. Is my personal hero. 68-70.....Silver Star and 2 Purple Hearts. Don't forget March 29th Vietnam War Veterans Day!
The 7th cavalry unit is one of the finest fighting units in Vietnam and they served until the final US combat troops withdraw from Vietnam in 1972. The men were brave and honorable. God bless these Veterans. Amen and Semper Fidelis
It was an unpopular war but I have the utmost respect for the courage those men displayed under such difficult conditions. Too many good men never came home but they are not forgotten.
My good friend was 7th calv. His M60 jammed while in fire fight. His A gunner leaned over him and took a bullet while my buddy the gunner unjammed his machinegun. Then proceeded to do his job. The A gunner survived and my buddy looked for him ever since. He found his A gunner 2 yrs ago..died before he got a chance to see him. The A gunner had a identical twin. He went to see the family last yr. 50 yrs later. They had a grand time but he was sad not to see his friend that took a bullit for him... true warriors ..... he told me this story to tell everyone his A gunner was a Black soldier. All of us that been there know we r one we bleed red and we’re green ...no color SEMPER FI
My friend from Big Spring, Texas and former member of the 4th AD 51st Inf. Ferris Barracks, Erlangen Germany, SGT Agustin Paredez lost his life there. He left a Son in Erlangen Mike Wirth Paredez. This was the first big battle fought in Vietnam but, more battles were to follow. A street is named after him in Big Springs, Texas.
They did indeed! A superb group under overwhelming odds. Their commanding office, Hal Moore, and their individual determination saved them from being wiped out. Semper Fi! A salute to a find group of warriors!
I was only 5 in November 1965, and did not know about this battle until I read "We Were Soldiers" in 1992. This was great! Thanks and thank you all young US soldiers in duty forever in our hearts.
I met the author when I was in 1-7 Cav 1st Cav division Fort Hood Texas he was very nice and then when they made the movie I was an extra in We Were Soldiers and got to talk to him more
Without a commander like Hal Moore, it would've been a catastrophe. Without so many others too--Basil Plumley, Bruce Crandall, "Too Tall" Jones. Impossible to appreciate fully what it was like. Airborne has never failed us. They held the line at Bastogne, La Drang and a thousand other impossible hellholes. A hundred thousand thank yous doesn't begin to cover it.
Commenting later on the battle, Harold (Hal) G. Moore said, The "peasant soldiers [of North Vietnam] had withstood the terrible high-tech fire storm delivered against them by a superpower and had at least fought the Americans to a draw. By their yardstick, a draw against such a powerful opponent was the equivalent of a victory."
And what do we say to the God of Death? Not today! I read 'We were soldiers once, and young'...the shit these guys went through...and every battle really...but this was the first Vietnam battle...and lasted days...UNREAL Semper Fi!! To all Veterans!
Jack Gell's family was given a commemorative plated AK-47 on a plaque, in honor of his service, We were fortunate enough to receive it from his family and hang it in the gun store I worked at. Jim Pruetts guns & ammo Cypress Texas.

SGT. 82nd. / OCS. / 2nd.Lt. 1st.Cav.div. 7th.reg. 1st.bn. A co. 1952 Korea , Purple Heart , Silver Star / 1968 Washington , D.C. LTC. Deputy Chief of Staff , Airborne Operations , South East Asia . Those that went before , sometimes have to go back ... American SOLDIER .
The re-designated 1/7 Landed in Vietnam in September of 1965. So what were you called in 1964?...Because it wasn't the 7th Cav. So I'm going to say you might be full of shit
It's completely insane that these guys got straight shit on when they got home... So they had to fight and watch they're buddy's die and then got home too a population that treated them like shit smh wild
@@pm-bg9mu Frequently called ham and m*therf*ckers. I was speaking to someone here who has since removed their post. Can't recall the convo now but c-ration ham and lima beans were pretty much universally hated. I was referring to someone being a rare lover of that particular ration. Just can't recall the context.
So nobody has the wisdom to question the legitimacy of Americans being in Vietnam fighting in the first place? Vietnam never attacked US territory or Americans. It was an Asian civil war, in Asia....to be resolved by Asians. It was NOT America's fight. The US never officially declared war against Vietnam. America was an aggressor and invader in that conflict. The only good story about Vietnam is the veterans that admit the US should have never been there. If that truth isn't a part of their "story" then it's all BS. They're conning the younger generation.
They were drafted most of them. The war wasn’t are war but politicians wanted this war that’s why JFK was killed and LBJ was put in. Drafted are the hero but politicians are the enemy of our Nation. They severed respectively and nothing can take that away. You sound like punk ass who never defend the constitution so keep your trap shut coward
@@Markbeb3 My punk ass ? . Guys like you were the dumb assholes that would jump off a cliff if your Government defended such an action. You're too damn ignorant to comment to me. Cowards allowed the Government to make them sacrificial lambs for something incredibly stupid and bad. You're the one that really needs to keep your pie hole shut. The war wasn't YOUR war?? You were the sheep that kept it going for 10 years. Duh.
The ABCs of Salvation, or how to be right with God, and know you're going to Heaven: A-dmit that you're a sinner, and need a Savior. As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one. Romans 3:10 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 B-elieve that Jesus Christ died paying the penalty for your sins, and rose from the grave. He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross. 1 Peter 2:24 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures... 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 C-all on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you, and trust only in Him for your salvation. If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13 The moment you "believe," or, put your trust in what Jesus has done for you, God saves you and your eternal destiny in Heaven is assured. You go from spiritual death to eternal life the moment you believe. Jesus said it this way: Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. John 5:24😀
